For Bacterial Infection "I was diagnosed with a bacterial infection after having a cold and cough for a month. I visited my doctor after having a continuous severe headache that reached down into my neck and problems with my vision. Within a few hours to 36 hours of taking this medicine, I started having trouble breathing, tightness in my chest, coughing, rhinorrhea, higher heart rate, restlessness, and nervousness. I took a total of six pills before I decided I could not deal with the side effects anymore. I should have stopped and contacted my doctor when I noticed the first side effect."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Middle Ear Infections "I took 875 mg 2 x per day. It cleared up my ear infection, however, I had diarrhea for most of the 4 days I was taking it. It was a constant diarrhea too, and a few times it just happened, I wasn’t able to control it. I took it with a probiotic each day. I felt nauseous each day and each time I took it. I also felt very out of sorts mentally and felt like I struggled with doing my job and felt anxiety. The day I didn’t take it during work, I felt much better and back to normal. I dropped it after five days and do not intend to take it again. This was a terrible experience."

For Middle Ear Infections "Was prescribed this medicine for 10 days, had to finish on the 7th day. Absolutely terrible side effects. Chest pain, shortness of breath, diarrhea, constipation, muscle aches, muscle spasms, eye twitching. I took the medicine with food and still had awful acid reflux. Five days without the medication, and I am still having chest pain, diarrhea, muscle aches, ear ringing, anxiety, etc. I hope all of this goes away soon so I can get back to normal. It did clear the ear infection, but I would never take this again."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Strep Throat "I was diagnosed with strep throat and given amoxicillin, and strep came back, and so they gave me Augmentin. Two pills in, and I started noticing little dots on my skin but thought it was normal and didn't want to be in pain, so I took 6 days of it (don't do that if you start to develop a rash). I had hives all over my body that itched. It made me self-conscious and depressed, and I can't work right now because my job is labored and I sweat a lot. The doctor didn't want to give me anything else because my immune system was freaking out. A week and a half later, my hives are still spreading, and my strep comes back. I was given a steroid injection that helped relieve some of the itching, taking Zyrtec daily, prednisone, and Keflex this time due to my other antibiotic allergy. Two weeks since I stopped taking Augmentin, and anything that causes me mental anguish or anxiety flares my whole body up with hives that feel like bugs are crawling over me. My immune system has been destroyed by three bouts of strep in 30 days."

For Upper Respiratory Tract Infection "Hope my experience helps others. In the past, I used generic Amox/Clav, price was $12 for 10 days. Had harsh side effects, never completing med, stopped after 4 days. Horrid anxiety, nervousness, jittery, bloating, headache, extreme fatigue. I spoke with pharmacist prior to next prescription about harsh side effects. This was Feb 2019, when I went to pick up med, I was told $55. I thought they made a mistake from $12. My med was changed to the original brand, I believe. Instead of the generic orange bottle, med came in a solid white bottle with company label. Med cost me $55 opposed to $12. I took the antibiotic for 10 days, and to my surprise, no side effects. I was in disbelief. I am on antibiotic right now, 4th day, same manufacturer. Thus far, no side effects. So, those of you having major side effects, ask for different pharma manufacturer or brand opposed to generic."

For Bacterial Infection "This medicine made me feel sleepless, restless, jittery, racy, and like I was going to lose my mind within a few hours after my first dose. I called my doc, and he told me I could stop it, and he called in plain amoxicillin instead. I had none of these symptoms with that. I've been on it a few days now. It seems to be the clavulanic acid that I am sensitive to. I would suggest calling your doc and telling him to call in a different drug to the pharmacy immediately if you feel mentally 'off' from it. I do not suggest continuing to take this if you feel mentally 'off' from taking it. I had also taken this a few years ago and forgot I had the same reaction."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Middle Ear Infections "First, let me start by saying that I don't really do well with antibiotics. I was diagnosed with Lyme disease in 2005 (positive blood test), and I've had autoimmune issues ever since. For some reason, antibiotics tend to make me feel really bad, but there are times when I'm left with no choice but to take them. So... I was diagnosed last week with a severe ear infection, ruptured eardrum, draining ear. Anyway, I had to take an antibiotic, and this was the one prescribed. I was prescribed this at 1000mg/2 times per day. The first and second days, I felt a little run down, but attributed it to the infection. Pretty much the same with the third and fourth days, but a little more intense. By the 5th and 6th days, I literally felt like I was losing my mind. Felt super weak, anxious, and panic attacks galore! Today was my 8th day on the medication, and I literally almost called 911 tonight! My heart was beating so fast, legs were super weak, head was spinning... just felt horrific!"

Amoxicillin / clavulanate "Took this drug for 5 days. Did not help at all! Side effects were body aches, anxiety, cloudy brain, dizziness! I stopped 2 days ago, and I still feel terrible! Can’t skip work because I had to take time off while taking this nasty drug! Do not take this unless your life depends on it!"

For Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "Took for gum infection. 3 days into the prescription, I started having major anxiety attacks. Heart palpitations, HBP, dizzy, shaky, clammy. Sent me to the ER as I thought I was having a heart attack. It was awful. I will never take it again. If you have to take it, please be aware of these side effects. No one tells us about the panic, but upon doing some research, it's pretty common."

For Upper Respiratory Tract Infection "I didn’t used to like this antibiotic because it gave me awful side effects - I thought I was going to jump out of my skin, anxiety, heart racing, extreme headache. I had to stop taking it. But I discovered what the problem was. Aurobindo Pharmaceuticals! This is a generic drug maker, and every time I’ve used their various antibiotics, I get a bad reaction. It must be the fillers they use. I was prescribed Augmentin for a bad cough, sore throat, ear infection that wouldn’t go away for weeks. I was hesitant but desperate. I asked for anything but Aurobindo. They gave me Sandoz. Miracle! I feel so much better within 24 hours, and I can tolerate it."

For Bacterial Infection "I had swollen tonsils but no clear diagnosis (I think it was tonsillitis). This medicine brought down my swelling by day 6, which was nice. I am in my early 20s and had side effects. My chest hurt bad, I was extremely tired, on day 9 out of 10, I had very bad lower stomach pains. This medicine also made me very anxious and gassy. I wouldn't recommend it simply because of the side effects."

For Sinusitis "I took this medicine after being prescribed for a persistent infection. After a quick nap, I became hot, sweaty, and jittery and began to vomit endlessly. I vomited so hard that I saw blood and had to go to the hospital. I was diagnosed with food poisoning and popped blood vessels in my stomach (even though they knew I was on the meds), given an IV and anti-nausea meds. It took me days to get back to normal, and since my infection is still persistent, I thought it was a good time to try taking the pills again. Big mistake. Woke up 2 hours later vomiting, like a nightmare. Luckily, I had some anti-nausea medicine leftover and could keep it down enough to not make a hospital visit at midnight. Horrible, horrible experience."

For Bacterial Infection "I took one amoxicillin with clavulanate pill, and my stomach started having severe pain, severe nausea, and my skin felt very hot. It also upped my anxiety to a whole extreme. My doctor is just putting me on plain old amoxicillin. Thank goodness. 10/10 DO NOT RECOMMEND."

For Bacterial Infection "The absolute worst! After taking the first dose, within 30 min I had terrible diarrhea and stomach rumbling. Two hours later, I was vomiting and have had the worst nausea ever since. It also gave me the worst anxiety and insomnia. Needless to say, I did not bother to take the second dose."

For Sinusitis "I had a really bad sinus infection. I went to the doctor and was prescribed Amoxi/Clav, 875 mg/125 mg for 14 days. The first couple of days were okay, but by the third day, I was constantly in the bathroom with endless diarrhea. My stomach started to churn and burn. I had intense body aches and joint pain. I started to have black green stool, and my sinuses and chest were still producing green yellow phlegm. I stuck it out for a few more days. But eventually, I went back to the doctor to tell them I couldn't do it anymore. The doctor told me I might have bleeding in my bowels because they were so irritated. I was so freaked out I had an anxiety attack. But now reading others' reviews, I realize the anxiety could be from the medication. The doctor gave me Clarithromycin, and the whole thing cleared up in two days."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Gosh, this drug was terrible. Thought I was dying, anxiety levels sky-high and terrible pain, and could not sleep. It was obvious that it wasn’t for me, so after three days I came off it. Never in my life have I felt so ill."

For Bacterial Infection "Started taking 24 hours ago. Last 12 hours have been having consistent and strong heart palpitations. Like my heart is about to jump out of my chest. Cannot sleep through the pounding. Has also brought on my anxiety condition, but it could be the heart rate triggering that. If I'm still like this in the morning, I'm taking myself back to the doctor. This does not feel right at all."

For Sinusitis "I was given Augmentin for a sinus infection that I had been dealing with for over a week. I was prescribed 2 pills a day for 10 days. Taking 1 pill was enough for me to know that I never want to put Augmentin into my body again. I took it right after eating a full meal, but that didn't help. About 45 minutes after taking my first pill, I was curled up in the fetal position with horrible stomach pain and chills. I also experienced extreme panic and anxiety. My heart was racing, and I was having crazy thoughts. There's no way I could get through 10 days of that, it wasn't worth the way it made me that night. Everyone is different, but I'd strongly suggest asking for an alternative if your doctor tries to prescribe it to you."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Urinary Tract Infection "It is an okay drug for UTI. I was better by day three. I couldn't take the side effects, though. A headache that won't go away and started mild diarrhea. The weird part is the anxiety I had with it. I'm hoping that side effect goes away. I've been taking a probiotic with it and eating when I do take it. It seems to help. I'd say give it a go, see if it works, if it doesn't, then find something else."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Bacterial Infection "My doctor gave me this to treat a recurring throat infection. After the first dose, I felt anxious, had swelling in my throat/tongue, and had difficulty breathing. I was admitted to the emergency room for an allergic reaction and was given Benadryl and Pepcid. Never again!"

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Sinusitis "Worked great for my kidney infection and frequent sinus infections but has an extremely bad impact on my mental health. Symptoms include worsening depression, worsening anxiety, extreme insomnia, and horrifically bad vivid nightmares. Extremely emotional and crying for no reason. I found taking a very powerful probiotic a few times a day a few hours after my dose helped, but it didn’t completely take it away. I would be careful of this medication if you’ve got mental health issues."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate "Took 5 days of 625 mg twice daily course after a dental procedure. While on it, I had a severe headache, hot flushes, chills, depression, nausea, and anxiety. I didn't experience diarrhea, though. Two days after finishing the course, I got a vaginal yeast infection. The last yeast infection was 5 years ago when I was on a 3-month course of Z-Pack for acne. It cleared up my tooth infection, but I'm never having it again. Not worth the side effects."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "I was prescribed Augmentin for what my doctor thought was a skin infection on my right leg. Well, after taking my first dose, within 2 hours, my stomach became extremely upset... burning... nausea... diarrhea... bloating... and anxiety and panic have always been an issue for me, but after Augmentin, it was immediately 20 times worse. My doctor ended up telling me to stop taking it on day 5 because it was getting worse and worse. My skin infection cleared up with some hydrocortisone cream and antibiotic ointment, but it's been over 3 months since stopping this medication, and I'm still having major stomach issues and mental issues, so please be careful, people, especially if you have anxiety or stomach issues beforehand."
