For Bacterial Infection "Took it via IV for five days in the hospital for diverticulitis infection, temperature dropped in a day and inflammation decreased. But had to take two more courses after being discharged to fully clear the infection I found the sickness and nausea very harsh and felt very weak when on it, surprisingly it didn't upset my stomach. Side effects cleared very quickly a few days after stopping it, I would rather take this than the dangerous alternative, Cipro. So would probably take again even though the side effects were difficult."

For Kidney Infections "Was prescribed this Augmentin (875/125) 2 doses a day for 7 days after being misdiagnosed with a UTI and on Keflex for a week before that did nothing for my fever or pain or infection. When I was finally diagnosed with a kidney infection, I started taking Augmentin. I’m on day 3 and feeling so much better without my fever and kidney pain. However, I am having mild side effects. I get a decent headache within hours of taking each dose, and there is some diarrhea. However, taking it with food lessens those side effects, and the main thing I know is helping is taking good probiotics daily as well that has helped keep my flora balanced and prevent the thrush a lot of people experience after this medication. Very effective, just be sure to replenish the good bacteria in your system as you are taking it."

For Strep Throat "My worst nightmare started with uncontrollable sneezing in the evening, which later developed into severe throat pain and musculoskeletal pain, with temperatures shooting up to 103. The physician (whom I consulted in the absence of my family physician) prescribed cefixime and Azithromycin (200, 500) combination twice a day, but the progress was very slow, with the temp remaining high at 103. Fortunately, my physician returned, and I consulted again and was prescribed Augmentin 625 twice a day for 3 days. Within a day, I found excellent improvement, and the second day, the strep pharyngitis completely subsided."

For Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "I had a stye that turned into cellulitis with extreme swelling, redness, and pain. If you Google the most extreme pics of periorbital cellulitis, I looked worse than those. My lower eyelid was so swollen that it was projected so far out that when I closed my eye, my inside tissue, the mucous membrane was completely exposed. It felt like my skin was ripping apart. I was prescribed 1000 mg Augmentin, and after the first tablet, I was about 25% better. After the second tablet, all pain was gone and it went down to looking like a normal stye again. This was in just 24 hours. By the end of day 3, you'd never know it happened. I've also been prescribed Augmentin for bronchitis and respiratory infections, and it's quick and works great for those as well."

For Sinusitis "AVOID, AVOID. I was prescribed this for what was diagnosed as a bacterial upper respiratory infection. Have never had issues with antibiotics before. Yes, it improved my symptoms from the infection....but every day, I had a POUNDING heartbeat in the mornings...and it was causing profound fatigue and weakness every day. Didn't figure it out until after I took it the morning of day 5 and did some research. I STOPPED THAT TOXIC MEDICINE then and there. It's now 48 hours after I stopped it and I still have easy fatigue and palpitations. AVOID!!!!"

For Strep Throat "After failing to complete the 10-day cycle of penicillin initially prescribed and a 3-day delay in getting back to the doctor, the strep came back 500x worse than the first time (including sinus and ear infections). Augmentin was prescribed along with Lidocaine Viscous (to gargle), Sudafed, Flonase, Ibuprofen, and Saline Rinse. After 1 day, I can tell that I am on the mend... fever gone; throat, ears, and sinuses getting better... I have had no adverse digestive effects (am eating yogurt consistently as it's the only thing that I have been able to get down). I am thankful that the Nurse Practitioner at CVS Minute Clinic went all out instead of sending me to the ER. This time I will finish the complete cycle!"

For Sinusitis "I loved the antibiotic. If you take probiotics and eat yogurt, you'll be fine. If you're sensitive to antibiotics and get yeast infections easily, I recommend asking your GP for Diflucan. Take 2 pills 2 or 3 days into the antibiotic course, then on day 6 or 7."

For Bacterial Infection "This is NOT a good choice if you're allergic to any penicillin-type antibiotics or prone to vaginal yeast infection. AVOID. Talk about severe vaginal itching! It's the kind of itching without odor or discharge; just full-fledged random itching. The short-term remedy is Benadryl. I didn't know I was allergic until I was prescribed this for a sinus infection. So, it's been 6/10 days on Augmentin and I'm calling it quits. To be fair: the sinus infection is all clear, so it does work. Apparently, this reaction happens to 1 out of 15 patients."

For Sinusitis "Positives: - Sore throat and eye infection gone. Negatives: - Woke up to spine, neck, chest, left arm pain to the point I thought I was having a heart attack. - Numb limbs, ears, and eye pressure. - Nightmares, such as birds attacking and pecking my brain. - Non-stop migraines that affected my vision, and I thought I had a brain tumor or aneurysm. - Brain fog and fatigue that I can barely hold a conversation. - Acid reflux. - Heart palpitations that wake me up in my sleep. - Food and water taste bitter with an aftertaste. - Dry eyes and photophobia. - Wake up in the mornings feeling hungover and disoriented. You can see the cost/benefit of this medication."

For Bronchitis "Excellent antibiotic for bronchitis! I haven't been sick in over 1 year since full-time retirement as a nurse manager; spring hit early in Rhode Island, with its fluctuating temperatures and abounding viruses/bacteria, and wham! Sickness with a nagging cough and productive sputum came with it. Augmentin for 7 days was prescribed by the NP. On day 4, feeling much better."

For Upper Respiratory Tract Infection "Used it for a 2-year-old for bronchitis and was very effective. Difference seen in 2 days. I used Orelox before that, and it did not help at all. With any chest, sinus-related infection, Augmentin is the way to go."

For Sinusitis "Went to urgent care with a toothache. Told I had a severe sinus infection. Mind you, I've had swelling on the left side of my face for 5 years, been through every test out there for answers with no success. Ever since the swelling started, I've suffered ear infections (left side only) and sinus infections to no end. Dentist would tell me my X-rays don't look normal but offered no explanation. Okay, so urgent care prescribed penicillin 500 mg, but I explain to the doctor that I may have a tolerance to that with all the antibiotics I've been on, so she prescribes Augmentin 875 2x a day for 10 days. Over a few days, I'm dizzy, nauseous, pressure headaches like my brain is being squeezed. The worst medicine EVER!!!"

For Bronchitis "Went to urgent care for chronic bronchitis, and the doc gave me Biaxin, which I told him did not work in the past. Fever elevated two degrees in two days. Went back, he gave me doxycycline, which eventually stopped the yellow mucus production for a few days, then right back. I went to my own doctor this morning, and she gave me Augmentin. Have an allergy to Avelox. After one dose, I can tell this is working better than doxycycline did in two days, so definitely recommend."

For Sinusitis "Went in to the urgent care thinking I had strep, but found it was a sinus infection. Been using this for 4 days now, and I thought it was helping pretty well, and the pain had gone away some, but then now I feel like it's going backwards, and I keep getting ear and throat pain again, but only at night, and I seem to feel better during the daytime."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I don't want to scare anyone away from taking this drug, but I have to be honest - Augmentin really sucked. I was prescribed it for a stubborn UTI after a 3-day course of Bactrim didn't do the job. I didn't notice many side effects (other than tiredness) at first, but by day 2, this drug had me feeling noticeably 'off', anxious, and irritable. This only worsened, and by day 4, I was feeling a constant cloud of stress and tension throughout my body that wouldn't go away. I felt extremely apathetic towards everyone around me, yet I also felt indescribably terrified that I was losing my sense of self because I felt so 'different' cognitively. The way I spoke, the way I typed, the way I thought through things - it changed, and being aware of that made it even scarier. It got so bad on day 4 that I got in a massive fight with my partner, which is completely out of character for me. It seems to have taken care of the UTI, but dear God, I never want to be on this antibiotic again."

For Small Bowel Bacterial Overgrowth "I took Augmentin for a second episode of diverticulitis. The first time around (two years ago), I took Cipro and Flagyl, which felt like a controlled forest burn of my intestines. Augmentin was MUCH easier to tolerate. I second those who’ve suggested taking it with probiotics. This makes all the difference. I took one or two probiotics about 2 hours before and also 2 hours after each dose. Definitely take it with a large snack or meal. Experienced only some mild indigestion about 30 minutes after taking it. My symptoms started improving around day 3 with continued improvement. For probiotics, I took a broad-spectrum one with multiple strains plus a high-powered version of Florastor. I was terrified of taking Augmentin after reading all the reviews, but dove in with the proper supports because there was no way I was going back to the Cipro combo. Good luck, and I hope it works for you!"

For Sinusitis "Was prescribed Augmentin for a sinus infection, and my anxiety has been crazy (already diagnosed with anxiety, and it seems to be worse). My throat felt worse before it got better. I'm also having headaches, nausea, and loose bowels. I can't wait to be done!"

For Bacterial Infection "This medicine is causing me serious neck, shoulder, and back pain. I took the first dose around 5:30-6 pm and woke up the next morning so sore it’s unsafe to drive because it hurts so much to turn my head and check my blind spot. I am supposed to take 875-125 mg tabs (whatever that means) twice a day for 10 days. I’ve taken 11 of 20 and have had difficulty functioning and sleeping since. I can’t wait for it to be over!"

For Sinusitis "I was prescribed this from the hospital for sinusitis. I’ve been on all types of antibiotics in my life, and this stuff is horrible. Woke up this morning convinced I was dying. Anxiety, panic attacks, tarry stool, chest and back pain, side pain, chest tightness, abdominal cramping, diarrhea, pale, dizziness, headache. I could go on. Stopped dosage and heading to PCP tomorrow to figure out what’s going on now."

For Sinusitis "Was prescribed Augmentin 875/125 tab twice daily for 10 days for bacterial sinusitis. I am currently on day 8 now. I was a little iffy about this medication the first two days, as it did upset my stomach and cause many trips to the restroom, even using with food as directed. Day three, I had a nasty headache and insomnia. But honestly, by day 4, I felt pretty good. Actually awoke without any congestion. Energy started returning. Day 5-6, I started having some nausea and congestion again upon waking, but trips to the restroom stopped. Day 8, mild congestion, but feel normal for once. Doc did advise if the post-nasal drip, etc., didn't cease, I may need to see an ENT. So I'd say that this med is doing its job handling the bacterial infection at least. Feel 90% better. Symptoms were uncomfortable when they hit, not unbearable."

For Sinusitis "3 hours after my first dose of Augmentin 875, I started vomiting in addition to diarrhea. I thought I had a stomach flu. I waited 5-6 days to restart the antibiotic. Well, 3 hours after that dose, guess where I was, in the bathroom vomiting again for several hours! I will NEVER take this medicine again!!! I've had Augmentin before but only experienced nausea. Not anymore! :("

For Sinusitis "Augmentin: The first time I took it was about 8 years ago. It did the job quickly, but I had diarrhea for about a year. {Not kidding! I also developed plantar fasciitis for a brief period, possibly due to a lack of certain nutrients caused by the extended bout of diarrhea.} I did not know what probiotics were at the time!? :( I blamed myself and that other guy, my doctor, for not mentioning the benefits of probiotics. Probiotics maintain a healthy level of good bacteria that most antibiotics will destroy. This prevents or minimizes greatly any diarrhea. Augmentin also contains clavulanic acid, which causes the upset stomach. Ranitidine, which is an acid reducer, can help soften the sour stomach often associated with Augmentin. Augmentin does work!!!"

For Sinusitis "After a couple of hours after taking an 875 mg tab, my stomach became rock hard. I had the most debilitating stomach cramps known to man. I've never vomited as much and as hard as I did that day. The diarrhea was like I was urinating out of my anus. After drinking a bottle of kefir, I was good again."

For Strep Throat "On Tamiflu for the flu, Z-pack for strep throat, and Motrin for pain and fever. Day 2: me begging, please give me penicillin, please. My throat began to swell and was covered with infection. I went to urgent care and was given a prednisone shot along with a Rocephin shot, followed by a prescription for prednisone, Augmentin, and Diflucan. Immediately, the Augmentin kicked the hell out of the strep throat. I began spitting out the infection, the flu symptoms subsided, and all is right in the world. I had the runs, upset stomach, and a yeast infection, all of those pale in comparison to strep throat and the flu."
