For Sinusitis "Colds turn into sinus infections pretty easily on me. Yes, I wait a while before I go to the doctor for antibiotics, as most sinus infections are viral. By the time I went to the doc with this one, I was MISERABLE. Hurting down into my jaw even. Within a few hours of taking the first pill, there was relief. I never knew I could have so much disgusting stuff come out of my nose. I always take probiotics (especially while on antibiotics) to decrease GI side effects. TAKE PROBIOTICS. Nausea and diarrhea are possible with any antibiotic."

For Bacterial Infection "I took it for a severely abscessed tooth. It did clear up after 5 days (2 1000 mg tabs a day). However, I felt horrible the entire time. Gave me so much anxiety that I had 2 panic attacks. I had headaches, stomach pain, and diarrhea. No appetite, even though you have to eat in order to tolerate the medicine. My infection was really bad, and I'm thankful that the Augmentin cleared it up, but I'm not sure if I would be willing to take it again."

For Sinusitis "I did not have any side effects. Loose stool the first few days, but not what I would consider diarrhea. I'm not sure if it worked, though. It helped my ears, but I still have a slight sinus headache. Just finished the 10th day. Two doses a day."

For Sinusitis "I am currently staying in the hospital overnight with an infected colon (thought it was appendicitis, it was so close), crazy watery diarrhea, vomiting, severe stomach cramps, and therefore dehydration. I have never had digestive problems like this, and I've never been in a hospital overnight. This is seriously because of Augmentin. Do not take this drug!"

For Bacterial Infection "I took Augmentin back in April 2016 to treat sinus and extreme cough/chest congestion. Within the first 24 hours, I had a rash in all the places nobody would want a rash. It was debilitating. I called the doctor back and said I’m not taking this. I can’t do it. Now here I am, 3 1/2 years later, and I have the same thing. What prescription do they send to the pharmacy, you ask? None other than Augmentin. I called them back and said absolutely not! I’m not going through this nightmare again! Now I’m stuck waiting for the doctor to call me tomorrow to hopefully give me something else. Meanwhile, I’m on week 2 of this and taking prednisone, which is causing me insomnia, and I still can’t lay down long enough to even try to sleep without choking. I guess what I would say is if you want to try Augmentin, go for it. What happened to me doesn’t mean it will happen to you. But just an FYI, I do medical billing and I asked several of my clients, APN and MD, if they would recommend Augmentin, and they all said NO."

For Sinusitis "Augmentin is getting rid of my sinus infection, but the severe diarrhea side effect is going to have to make me quit. I have lost 3 pounds so far, have no energy, and can't keep anything in my body. I'm a runner, so this is totally not acceptable."

For Upper Respiratory Tract Infection "I took it for a respiratory/sinus infection. I'm on day 5 and feel about 75% better. Still have yellow phlegm, but not as much as 5 days ago, sinuses are still clogged 50% of the day now. Using Flonase and Tylenol as needed. The pills taste absolutely yuck, leaving an aftertaste as bitter as anything I've ever eaten. It takes about an hour to go away. Side note: Augmentin is not a 'cure-all.' It takes care of quite a few infections, but remember, the negative reviews you see here are from people who aren't responding to it. That means 1 of 2 things: You aren't taking it correctly or your infection is something outside the spectrum that Augmentin can't cure. Now, the best thing to do would be to run cultures, but those cost a nice penny. So, it's just easier to start you on meds because it would most likely cover the organism you have. NOT EVERY infection is the same. Take all reviews with a grain of salt."

For Bacterial Infection "I had an infection caused by cat bites and scratches on my hand (my cat got caught in a vine by his tail and was in a complete panic; I freed him from the vine, however, during that process he latched onto my hand and bit and scratched - he is okay, thank goodness). I was prescribed this medication; it took time, yet it did work to eliminate the infection. The side effects of 2 pills per day of 875 mg each (total per day = 1,750 mg) for 10 days had a strong effect on me. I did not follow up with the hospital, which I should have done. I would emphasize that if anyone is to take that amount of this medication, to consult with their doctor when side effects are seen."

For Strep Throat "I had a wicked bout of strep while traveling in Europe. I had a round of Amoxicillin, which didn't quite clear it, so I was prescribed Augmentin. I had 30 hours of travel ahead of me and two hours of sleep to go on, but despite the circumstances, I began to feel much better! The only side effects I've had so far have been that the acne on my cheeks has completely cleared up, and I have better than average energy levels (not sure if either of these are related to the Augmentin, but the timing lines up perfectly)."

For Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "I took Augmentin for a nasty stye that was getting increasingly worse. I do not have a good track record with antibiotics as I have either broken out in hives or it has caused some intolerable mood swings. I was nervous about taking it, but the stye caused me so much pain that I gave in. Hours after the first dose, the stye came to a head and immediately started draining. It felt like so much of the pain had finally left my eye. By day 4, other than the scar/scab, my eye looks and feels like normal. My digestion is a bit out of whack, but I deal with other complicated gastro issues, so this was not a big deal for me. Probiotics and kefir to help!"

For Bronchitis "Hit with a sore throat, cough, etc. Thought it was a cold. I went back to work after limited activity for a weekend and taking Monday off. Two days later, I was worse! Thinking it was the flu, I went to the doctor after a night of heavy coughing, major phlegm from this coughing and cramping, unable to have a bowel movement, tried to vomit (it was globs of only blood! I was taking severe strength cold/flu medicine (650 mg acetaminophen every 4 hours), which contributed to the constipation. I had no voice along with the sore throat and being very weak. The doctor said I had bronchitis and not the flu. (Temperature was 98.5 BP 117/82.) Prescribed Augmentin. I was alive again after 4 hours from taking this! Three days into a 10-day regimen, and I feel so much better. I never had bronchitis before. This is a great treatment! No side effects as of now."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I took this for my urinary tract infection, and although it cleared that up, one of the side effects of this medicine was diarrhea and thrush. I got both, but the thrush was the worst. I had to stop the course of antibiotics before I should have because of the severity of my thrush, which I also passed on to my partner, oh joy. I stopped taking it now 4 days ago and I still have a mild dose of thrush even though I have taken 2 Canestan tablets and now a pessary... fingers crossed this should be the end of it."

For Sinusitis "I had a sinus infection and was put on Augmentin for a week. I suffered from horrific headaches. I wanted someone to just knock me out because I couldn't handle the horrible headaches all day and night. My taste was affected as well. Even water didn't taste good. My stomach also affected me, and I did take a probiotic. I wouldn't take this medication ever again."

For Middle Ear Infections "A 10-day round of this did not heal my middle ear infection. The day after I finished the antibiotics, I woke up with the same symptoms that I presented with 10 days prior. I had some vertigo feelings around day 6 or 7, but maybe it was just the infection spreading. I had no side effects, but it also didn't work."

For Skin and Structure Infection "My neighbor's cat scratched and bit me. At first, I thought I sprained my wrist doing something, but when my wrist was red like a lobster, swelling in pain and pus draining from the bite, I knew it was due to the cat bite. Went to the ER, they said I had cellulitis. They gave me an IV of this, then prescribed it for ten days. Started to work immediately. I had mild diarrhea for the first three days, felt nauseous and very groggy, trouble thinking clearly. I still have dark urine, but my wrist is just about completely healed. I'm on day six, four more days to go. Then I'm done. Regular amoxicillin made me feel weird but didn't give me much side effects, however, I was prescribed amoxicillin for abscessed teeth."

For Sinusitis "Right after the first dose, I experienced the worst stomach cramps, gas, bloating... all the way into my chest. It seemed to help my sinus infection, but nothing is worth that type of pain. I couldn't keep food down, I don't have issues with acid reflux until I started taking Augmentin. I tried one more dose before I quit, and I went to my regular doctor, and he agreed that this stuff is harsh on your stomach and changed to a different antibiotic. I tried drinking a lot of water, yogurt, and I increased my intake of probiotics, but so far nothing is helping. I am hoping this horrid feeling will go away eventually."

I’ve taken Augmentin for three days, my anxiety is out the roof, feels like my depression is awful. I’ve been crying. I’m not taking Augmentin again. It works for sinus infection, but the side effects are too much for me."

For Middle Ear Infections "Had a brutal ear infection after getting my ears cleaned. First ear infection experienced as an adult and nothing was working to fix it. Was prescribed Augmentin after a week of severe pain and fever. Worked amazing. Pain and fever gone in 48 hrs and entire infection cleared in about 7 days. Didn’t experience any unusual bowel movements or diarrhea except on day one of use. Would recommend if looking to get rid of ear infection ASAP."

For Sinusitis "Prescribed an 8-day prescription of Augmentin, and I would not recommend this poison to anyone else, EVER. I wake up every day with a headache like my head is in a vice and stomach cramps that rival the pain of the sinus infection I went in for in the first place. And yes, I eat yogurt and take extra probiotics. My heart beats like a horse's hooves on a racetrack and keeps me up far past any respectable time to go to sleep. I don't feel like myself at all, I'm telling you so you can run far away from this treacherous toxic substance."

For Sinusitis "I suffer from chronic sinus infections and migraine headaches. I usually can tell if a sinus infection has taken hold when sumatriptan (migraine med) is not working! First go-round a couple years ago with Augmentin 875 mg big pills was awful, and I experienced what others reported with horrible chemo-like diarrhea effects, barely made it through 5 of 10 days, but felt better in head afterwards. Decided to gut it out again a couple years later with another sinus infection after weaker antibiotics did not work and had a much easier time with Augmentin. Perhaps body needs to adjust to this med, but thank God it works!"

For Sinusitis "I was prescribed Augmentin for a severe sinus infection. After about 3 days of taking it, I developed this weird skin rash first on the knuckles of both of my ring fingers, then noticed I had the same spots on my knees in the same place on both knees. This spread to both of my elbows also and creeped me out a little, so I just stopped taking the medicine altogether. It did seem to take the sinus infection away, but I make sure to tell my doctors I'm allergic to it now just in case I have a more severe reaction in the future. This rash just looked like red dots, no burning or itching either... Pretty strange."

For Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "I suffered from pseudofolliculitis behind my head for years, and by chance, I got Augmentin from Libya without any prescription. In Europe, all the doctors that I consulted could not find a solution for this problem, so one day I just walked into a pharmacy in Libya and showed it to the doctor in charge of the pharmacy, who advised me to take Augmentin. I was a bit hesitant, but before my returning date (after 5 days), I noticed that all the bumps were drying, and now I'm very proud of my head."
