For Bacterial Infection "I was prescribed Augmentin (500/125 three times a day for 10 days) by my dentist for a tooth infection. The first day wasn’t so bad, but by the second day, I could feel anxiety and nausea creeping in. On the third day, I had a strong headache and stomach pain with loose stools, although I never vomited. Over the next couple of days, my blood pressure spiked significantly, I had a difficult time sleeping, and I felt very anxious along with the other above-mentioned symptoms. The good news is that my tooth, jaw, and ear pain went away, caused by the tooth infection. On day 7, I called my dentist and explained my side effects to him, and he advised that I go off the medicine. I have never had any severe reactions to any antibiotics in the past. Well, at least for me, this stuff is bad in my opinion. I don’t plan on taking it again, although it did help my infection go away."

"Took 5 days of 625 mg twice daily course after a dental procedure. While on it, I had a severe headache, hot flushes, chills, depression, nausea, and anxiety. I didn't experience diarrhea, though. Two days after finishing the course, I got a vaginal yeast infection. The last yeast infection was 5 years ago when I was on a 3-month course of Z-Pack for acne. It cleared up my tooth infection, but I'm never having it again. Not worth the side effects."

"By the time I was prescribed this medication, I was at the tail end of a two-week-old. The doctor saw some spots on my throat and prescribed it. The medication has made me more miserable than the actual disease. I can't keep any food in my stomach, and I have constant headaches as well as lingering nausea. Constantly sleepy and tired. It's been four days at this time, and I think I will have to stop early. My doctor prescribed 875 mg two times a day for 10 days."

For Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "Got an infection in my fingertip from tearing it open. I was prescribed a 10-day round of Augmentin and took it for 7 days, and it didn't work. The first two days I had no issues, but by the third day, I woke up with pain in my back, neck, and shoulders and had a terrible headache, this lasted for 4 days. I told my doctor, and they suggested I take at least 7 days. On the 7th day, the last dose, I took it in the evening and woke up in the middle of the night with muscle and joint pain. Taking ibuprofen got rid of all of it, but I was taking 600 mg of ibuprofen at least twice a day. I felt awful the entire time. The only positive, it did clear up the infection. But my God, I felt like I was dying. I have asked not to be prescribed this again."

For Middle Ear Infections "BEWARE!!! TAKE PROBIOTICS before, during, and after you take this Augmentin. I was given a prescription for an ear infection. Within days, I had gastrointestinal problems and very uncomfortable bloating and stinging while urinating. This whole mess turned into a UTI, which caused fever, chills, headaches, and more bloating. It was horrible. It wasn't until then that a PA at Urgent Care told me I should have been taking a probiotic before, during, and after the Augmentin. Very nice of my GP to 'forget' to tell me that."

For Sinusitis "I've taken this briefly before but don't remember having side effects like this time around. I wake up in the middle of the night with nausea. I've had stabbing headaches that are worse than my usual vertiginous migraines. My stomach is so bloated and just very upset all the time. My ears feel better, but I started another allergy med at the same time, so I don't know if it's due to that or this. I certainly wouldn't take this med unless you really need it. Can't wait to finish."

For Strep Throat "Augmentin 875 for 10 days every 12 hours. This drug works great for getting rid of the infection. The side effects, my lord. Listen, everyone is different. But if you have a history of already being anxious and panic attacks, watch out. Because this drug will probably make it much worse while you are on it. I had quite a few side effects from it. To include headaches, nausea, itchy skin all over (no rash), mood changes (crying, anxiety, depression, and bad irritability), brain fog, and dizziness. Like I said though, everyone is different. I only made it to day 7 and I had to stop, it was just that awful. Oh, and that damn big chalky pill is hard as heck to swallow, kept getting stuck in my throat. But the strep was gone and clear lol."

For Strep Throat "Tried this medication many times in the past, and I have not tolerated it well. Typically, doctors have given it to me for mycoplasma, but this time I was diagnosed with strep throat. Since I did not already have a headache due to the strep throat, I opted to go with Augmentin as recommended by the ENT. I was sure to share my past episodes with the medication, but the ENT assured me headaches were not a side effect. Well, 1 dose into it, my head feels like it weighs 50 lbs, and I am achy all over and feel totally worse. After the second dose, my full-blown headache, where I can't move, is back in full force. And I also can't sleep on it. Never again on this medication!!!"

For Upper Respiratory Tract Infection "This drug is awful. I have 3 days left, and I physically cannot handle it anymore. I'm intensely nauseous every day, but I never vomit. I just drool at the mouth and dry heave until it wears away. But by the time the nausea settles, it's time to take another pill! It makes going to work almost impossible. I also get unusual headaches and generally feel terrible. Unfortunately, it's a holiday, so I am unable to contact my doctor for something new. Considering risking it and quitting - never again."
