For Pain "I have a herniated and degenerated disc, sacrum joint dysfunction, and piriformis syndrome. It was very disabling, I was unable to get about, get dressed, the pain was 10/10 had to crawl while being pregnant. If I did a lot of activities, pain was on its way. I tried pain relief, did physio, went to the gym, had a good diet, used a TENS machine. Nothing really worked apart from being in bed for 3 days till the pain eased. I have 3 kids and really thought my life was going to be living in chronic pain. I was prescribed amitriptyline for headaches. Anyway, I asked my doctor for these meds for my back, so she agreed. Well, I have a new lease of life! I still get stiff and have to re-crunch (set) my back, but I haven't been a day in bed since starting them this year. I take 20mg."

For Interstitial Cystitis "I have had pelvic floor dysfunction/IC for over 2 years. I tried Elavil when I was first experimenting with therapies (others included physical therapy, Elmiron, Baclofen suppositories, bladder cocktail, Ditropan, elimination diet) a lot of stuff to say the least, lol. And eventually, I was cured! Since I tried so many different things, I wasn't sure which one fixed me. But I had no more pain or bladder issues, and I discontinued all drugs for a long time...over a year! Then, sure as the world, the issues and pain came back. My doc put me back on Elavil after struggling with the issues again for over a month. I kid you not, after ONE dose, I was back to normal and in remission again. This stuff is great and WAY cheaper than other therapies! Thanks, Elavil! I didn't give 10 stars because it makes me sooo sleepy, but I will take it over the pelvic floor and bladder pain!"

For Neuropathic Pain "I've been taking amitriptyline 125 mg for 3 years now. It relieves my shingles and pancreatic-related nerve damage in my back and eases my anxiety. I've been suicidal when trying to reduce my dosage. It makes it impossible to wake up in the mornings, and I have urinary retention issues. I've had repeated episodes of excruciating chest pain with very sudden onset. I take nitroglycerin spray to control them. My doctors have assumed that the chest pain was a result of sphincter of Oddi dysfunction following gallbladder removal. This week I had dental work (2 days in a row) and was given Septocaine 4% with 1:100,000 epinephrine. Both days, after returning home, I developed excruciating chest pain. The only way to stop the pain was 3 hits of nitroglycerin spray. It turns out that there is a serious interaction risk between amitriptyline and epinephrine -- enough to cause a heart attack. Amitriptyline by itself has heart attack as a potentially fatal complication."

For Neuropathic Pain "20 mg seems to numb my polyneuropathy and low back pain as well as oxycodone, but without the drugged-up feeling, which is good, but not as much sedative effect at night as I had hoped. I still have trouble sleeping. And it does cause some sexual dysfunction, which is the downside."

For Migraine Prevention "I was prescribed amitriptyline for Odie Sphincter dysfunction, which is a spasm in the gallbladder sphincter. The wonderful side effect is my migraines were cured by this as well. NOTE: The smallest dosage of generic amitriptyline is 10 mg. I have gotten the dose down to about 1.5 mg by breaking each 10 mg into eighths. This has eliminated the constipation I was experiencing at the higher dose and costs me about $10/year for prescription."
