For Diarrhea "I have had to adjust the amount recently. The biggest problem is the large price if you are on Medicare. I am in the donut hole, and it is costing me over $1,200 a month for 60. I am going broke trying to afford to be 'normal.' The discount cards don't work if you are on Medicare. That needs to be changed!"

Alosetron for Irritable Bowel Syndrome with Diarrhea "I tried Xifaxan, and it did not help. Changing my diet did not help. I was miserable and could not play sports, was so worried about running to the bathroom. Even being cooped up in the car was a nightmare, as there aren’t bathrooms on every corner. This drug makes my life enjoyable again. I take the generic Alosetron, and it works with just one 0.5-milligram per day. I’m so grateful."

For Diarrhea "I had nonstop diarrhea for almost 18 months for no apparent reason. I went to the ER and got admitted several times to the hospital, and they did a scope, said I do not have UC, and said I have IBS and to go home and deal with it. I had to go to the toilet 15-20 times every day. I had diarrhea whether I ate or did not eat. I am elderly and needed my hip and knees replaced, and I could not even leave home to go to the doctor to see about these things. I was weak. I had tried all OTC stuff and Lomotil, and none of it worked. Then I searched on Google, and there I saw it. I called gastro, asked can he give it, and he said it causes constipation and some have died, blah blah blah. I suffer from severe constipation all my life from diet, then later in life due to opioid pain meds, so no problem. It cost me $95 for 0.05 mg 2x a day. I took a few doses, and the diarrhea slowed and stopped. A miracle. It does cause constipation, so I only take a few pills a week now. It took time to get the dose right for me. It stops diarrhea but does cause constipation. It's a thin line. I also take senna and a softener with it."

For Irritable Bowel Syndrome with Diarrhea "I'm 66 and have been on alosetron (Lotronex) for 7+ years, and I always call it my miracle drug! Before it was prescribed to me, I was unable to leave my house without extra clothes and could find no relief with other meds. I also experienced negative side effects from some meds. For the most part, I can eat whatever I want without worrying. There are a few foods I can't eat too much of (grapes), but I know my limits. I know some insurances don't like to approve it, but hang in there and win the battle, it's worth it. I do have to adjust my dosage as I need it, but I take it regularly, whether it is a whole pill (1 mg) or a half pill (1/2 mg) twice a day. You will learn to adjust according to your needs at that time. I can think of no negative side effects if I keep my dosage adjusted to avoid constipation. I've had a few flare-ups that have taken me a couple of weeks to get over, but they have been rare. Hopefully, this medicine will always be available! I feel blessed!"

Alosetron for Irritable Bowel Syndrome with Diarrhea "I have tried everything for my colitis, but this is the only thing that has helped. I have to get a new Medicare insurance now, and I can't afford it after the first of the year."

For Irritable Bowel Syndrome "Man, I feel like we need a support group for those of us suffering from IBS... and having chronic diarrhea makes life miserable, the stress, the misery, the isolation, the frustration... argh! I too, like many of you, tried many different remedies and consulted a GI doc, who after trying some other meds, recommended this one! It does seem to be the only one to STOP the chronic diarrhea, thank the LORD! You do have to make adjustments so as to not get too constipated, like more fiber, or taking the medication every other day, etc. BUT it's worth it!! It seems having the gallbladder out was the catalyst for increasing GI problems over the years."
