For Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "I think if you have any concerns about your U.T. function, then see your doctor. I can go with ease and without effort. I went from going every hour all day and night to going every 2-4 hours and sleeping through the night unless I drink a lot before bed. This medicine works very well, but there are many more. Don't be afraid to request something different."

For Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "About 90 minutes after taking this, my heart rate shot up to over 100 at rest, 130 if I would stand up and walk around. It lasted 18 hours. Though I was going to have a heart attack, I almost went to the ER. I called the pharmacist. She said it was a known side effect and to not take it anymore. I'm glad my insurance paid for this, but still, it was twenty-five dollars down the toilet."

For Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "Only been taking Alfuzosin for 3 weeks. It helped almost immediately with my BPH, however, the side effects of tiredness and sexual dysfunction are a very real issue. I will stop taking this medication, hoping my energy will return as well as my sex drive."

For Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "I just started taking alfuzosin after my doc prescribed it a year ago. I also take daily Cialis 1/2 @2.5 mg. By itself, daily Cialis didn’t help with nighttime pee and was only somewhat effective for sex. But taking them together has been terrific. Pee only once or twice a night with an adequate stream. And it seems to enhance Cialis's effectiveness for sex. I am hoping this keeps working. I thought I needed treatment, but not now. I am going to continue my herbs too: Pygeum, pumpkin seed oil, beta sitosterol."

For Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "I had problems with control with Flomax. I've been on alfuzosin for three years. I found it works best for me if I take half in the morning and half in the afternoon along with a couple milligrams of Mobic (meloxicam). Lasts longer and seldom drips."

Alfuzosin for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "Had taken Flomax 2 x 0.4 mg daily for BPH. Was somewhat effective, but I had difficulty reaching orgasm and rarely ejaculated. After changing to Uroxatral, both side effects improved, but still have diminished ejaculate volume and some difficulty reaching orgasm. With both drugs, I still had to urinate 1-2 times during the night."

For Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "Experienced peeing problem for a year or two, in the end, went to the doctor who put me on Tamsulosin. After 3 months, changed to Alfuzosin. Have now taken these for 9 months. Had side effects of dizziness, bad headaches, and generally feeling jaded and unwell. I can pee better, but that is the only plus, however, I missed taking one day, and it was hell as trying to pee was very painful. I had a cystoscopy two days ago and was told the front lobe of my prostate was too enlarged to have the Urolift procedure. The Urolift was the option I was hoping for, so now I'm left with the Turp, which has unwelcome side effects. I think I have an option of a tablet which may reduce the size, which in turn will aid peeing. Have to say Alfuzosin does not affect everyone like this."

For Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "Been on finasteride and alfuzosin for 2 months, not impressed yet. Still up at night about three times, sex drive very low, seen Doc about severe pain in one testicle but that has settled down, but still very bad shoulder pain, also tired, so will try for a little while longer, then back to GP. See what other options I got."

For Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "I have been on it for about 2 months, have yet to notice any difference. I still pee every 90 to 120 minutes at night. Plus, I have been getting headaches every now and then and am constipated at times. I think I was better off not taking it."

For Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "Uroxatral (alfuzosin): This drug gave me headaches and made me feel tired as though I had the flu. And after I stopped taking these pills, I still have extreme migraine headaches for over three weeks now. I am writing this message after midnight because my pain medication (ibuprofen 800 mg) doesn't relieve these daily headaches. You've been warned, do NOT take this drug or Flomax."

For Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "I started taking alfuzosin about 3 months ago after the doctor recommended it for prostatitis and BPH, along with antibiotics, which I took for 21 days. The prostatitis appeared to have been cured, but my urine flow decreased and my visits to the bathroom increased. Even my urine flow decreased. I'm considering meeting another doctor to review my medication."

Alfuzosin for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "I previously took Finasteride, which effectively slowed the growth of my prostate. However, it also resulted in retrograde ejaculation and erectile dysfunction. In an attempt to find alternative solutions, I tried taking saw palmetto and various other herbs. Then, I gave Alfuzosin a try, taking it every other day. I immediately noticed improvements in my urination stream, as well as better emptying of the bladder. Additionally, my erection, sexual drive, and ejaculation showed improvement. It was a great outcome! Unfortunately, after a few doses of Alfuzosin, I began experiencing heart and gastrointestinal issues, along with difficulty sleeping. These symptoms were quite unpleasant. I decided to stop taking the medication for a few days, and thankfully, the symptoms disappeared. I cautiously decided to give Alfuzosin another try, but unfortunately, after a few days, the symptoms returned and were even worse than before. It became abundantly clear that this medication was not suitable for me. Given the negative experiences and the adverse effects I encountered, I have chosen to discontinue the use of Alfuzosin altogether."

Alfuzosin for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "I have BPH and overactive bladder. I take Avodart, Vesicare, and Uroxatral. I have been taking these three for years and have noticed little or no difference in my urinary habits. I still go on average once an hour and recently have started to wake up in the middle of the night three times versus 1 or 2 times prior to the last few months. I am going to speak to my doctor because these meds seem to be not helping me."

For Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "A horrible drug. I took a 10 mg dose for five days before having severe side effects - racing heart, lower blood pressure, etc. Ended up in the ER twice, both times IV fluid was administered, which helped mitigate the effects (feel like I'm wearing a tight hat and someone is pushing down on the muscles in the sides of my neck). I have been off of it for over 7 days, and I'm still having issues. Yesterday, my blood pressure increased, and I thought I was having a heart attack. Felt like someone was squeezing my heart in a vice. Still have issues just slightly less than what I had before (still feels like I'm wearing a tight hat and someone is pushing down on the muscles in the sides of my neck). Afraid this may have caused me permanent damage."

For Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "I had cystitis and took 4 doses of Alfuzosin as I had weak stream and slight burning in urethra. Pain and burning increased tenfold, agony, stream became no more than a dribble and fighting to pass even that. Stopped taking it as it made everything worse. This is not listed in any side effects but won't be taking it again."

For Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "Switched from Flowmax (after 5 yrs) to Uroxatral. Issues with Flowmax were the same as everyone else here with orgasms and retrograde. Which also affected my mood and feeling tired. The last two weeks on Uroxatral have been great. No side effects (I take it in the morning with a little food). Orgasms are fantastic, and the retrograde is nonexistent now. Feeling like I'm in my 40s again. Mood is better, life is much better now."

For Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "I've been taking it for over 12 years, but recently I noticed the generic Urixatrol stopped working. I've had all the symptoms come back... excruciating pain when I try to pee, slow flow. Doctors aren't sure what to do since all my vitals are normal (except BPH)."

For Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "I have been on Xatral XR for 3 months and still have 6 months of Xatral XR to go. I take it once a day to relax my bladder neck. This bladder neck problem causes chronic pain in my testicles and sometimes in my penis. This is the bigger problem for me. Slow urination has improved well over the 3 months using Xatral, and I hope the testicle pain will go away one day and I can walk normally again. I used to take Arcoxia and other NSAIDs as well, but pain has reduced and I just bear it. Xatral can make me dizzy when I suddenly stand, but I got used to it. However, I took a glass of champagne yesterday and I felt the dizzy spell like tenfold. I could only see white spots and not much color for 30 minutes. I'll never drink again while on Xatral."

For Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "Replaced Flomax with alfuzosin because of ejaculatory dysfunction. Alfuzosin did improve urinary flow somewhat, but ejaculatory function did not improve. I am considering replacing with natural supplements such as pygeum, B-sitosterol, and stinging nettle bark. We'll see if that works."

For Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "I’m 77 and in good shape and eat healthy and exercise. I started using Alfuzosin in January 2018 and stopped in August 2022. Stopped Flomax because of side effects and started Alfuzosin. At first, it worked okay as far as helping with urination but not so much with getting up at night to urinate. That was still 3 to 4 times a night, and only occasionally was it 2 to 3. Finally, it stopped working, and my urination became more difficult and burned when I urinated. It also started affecting my intimacy with my wife, which wasn’t acceptable to me. Difficulty getting and keeping an erection. So I’ve been off of it for about two weeks, and I’ve seen improvement in the dizziness, the burning, the urgency, and the frequency of urination. Sometimes I can go 3 to 4 hours between trips to the restroom now. I’m off this medication for good and feel much better!"

For Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "Started my treatment with Alfuzosin 3 weeks ago. The effect was immediate with better flow, less congestion, and a feeling of complete emptying. The side effects were at their worst for days 1-3 but have subsided since then. The headache and fatigue were dominant. I don't see how I will be able to stop this medicine that delivers as expected. The reason for the medication is very weak flow with many interruptions and nocturnal visits to the toilet."

For Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "I've been taking 10 mg daily for two months now. Whilst it hasn't helped my urinary flow very much, it has very noticeably improved issues with frequency and voiding. Take care with daily dosage - there was one occasion when I forgot my dose and took it 12 hours late/before my next scheduled dose. I woke up at 02:00 with stomach pain and fainted due to low blood pressure! If you miss a dose, wait until the next one is due, contrary to the information leaflet. I now also take Tadalafil 20 mg twice weekly (at a different time of the day), instead of 5 mg daily previously, to improve blood flow to the bladder, prostate, and penis, and the combination is fine apart from occasional lightheadedness (e.g., dehydrated). Sex is very satisfactory with long hard erections and more powerful ejaculations - both drugs offer benefit here. I'm otherwise a fit and healthy 50s YOM, so this combination may not be suitable for those with other underlying medical issues - your doctor will, of course, advise."

For Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "Really generic ... yes, brand works better, but have found different in which generic got switched recently and did not work well at all. Went back to original generic, which now is listed as my preferred manufacturer at my pharmacy at my request, and things are back to normal."

"I started experiencing LUTS during an infection and was prescribed Flomax. Flomax worked, but the side effects for me were not worth it: retrograde ejaculation, hot flushes, muscle aches, sweating, and extreme nausea. I asked my urologist if I could switch to alfuzosin, and he was immediately on board. It’s time-released, so I have had no side effects, and my RE cleared in three days. It takes up to four weeks to work fully, so stopping it before that time period will not help. I see a lot of people stopping it after less than a month on here. Our bodies all react to this stuff differently, but alfuzosin is just a superior medication. It was invented in the 1970s, twenty years before Flomax, and has fewer side effects. Both were permitted for use in the USA in the 2000s: alfuzosin in 2003 and Flomax in 2009. Flomax just has a better brand name and advertising, which is why doctors push it. If you are prescribed this medication, give it a chance and take it on a full stomach. I take mine at 8 pm. No dizziness!"

For Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "I started Flomax but didn't like the reverse ejaculation. Doc said try this alfuzosin. I am dizzy, foggy brain, very rapid irregular heartbeat when getting up. Sometimes heart is irregular for an hour. Yes, it works for better ejaculation vs. Flomax, but the heart problems. Wow. I'm only 50. The pill worked fine for three months with some dizziness, not horrible, then all of a sudden it's like I'm 1/4 drunk, dizzy, my heart is going nuts. Totally tired. Stopped the pill and within a week better. Back to Flomax."
