For Herpes Simplex (HSV) "It is an effective remedy, but the side effects in my case were worse than the problem. There was a point after about a week on the drug that I thought I was going to die. Daily it got worse, and I felt very tired all the time. It caused severe dizziness, trouble breathing, and while I was lying in bed, I woke up with a terrible feeling that I was passing out and could not go back to sleep and just lay there with the feeling of my head swirling."

For Herpes Simplex (HSV) "I am a 30-year-old woman, and I recently became diagnosed with genital herpes a few days ago. I started seeing a guy who didn't know he was infected with it. We had sex one of the times without a condom, and BOOM, here I am. I started having a burning sensation while peeing a few days later, vaginal irritation, stomach cramping, etc. I was given a prescription for a UTI. Three days later, I broke out in a few painful little bumps, and the burning in my urination got worse. Then I got a fever. I went to the ER, and the doctor diagnosed me with genital herpes. Luckily, it's a small localized area, she said, and gave me Acyclovir 400 MG to take three times a day. I'm on the third day, and it's a huge difference. The site is healing, it's not burning when I urinate, no more fever, and a lot less discharge. I've gotten some side effects of being very drowsy and tired, and tingling in random places. The only thing I hate is the drowsiness. I've been fighting to stay awake at work the past two days of it really kicking in."

For Herpes Simplex, Suppression "I was exposed to herpes simplex 1 genitally one year ago. My first outbreak was minor and only lasted a week with no medication and disappeared with no medication. One year later, I have a horrible outbreak, very painful, and the doctor prescribed acyclovir 400 mg 3 times a day. The medicine worked quickly and stopped itching after 1 day, sores healed after about 3-4 days. After I stopped taking the medication, I had sex, which must have irritated the area because I got another outbreak about one week later. I started taking acyclovir again, except this time I experienced unusual tiredness and nausea. I noticed that if my heart rate went up, I became short of breath and felt like fainting. I only took the drug for this outbreak for about 3-4 days."

For Herpes Simplex (HSV) "I have been on this pill now for three days after suffering an attack for almost a week. I am feeling much better. The tingling and itching have reduced. Anti-itch medicated cream from the 99-cent store really helped with the itching. I am just a little tired and feel a little achy. I will take that any time than the feeling of this painful virus."

For Herpes Simplex (HSV) "Diagnosed with HSV2 11 years ago. Never received information on tablets I could take. Searched for a natural remedy. An active gym enthusiast and going through the stresses in life, I had outbreaks nearly every other month that lasted weeks. Tea tree oil stung like anything; L-Lysine sometimes worked, but I'd have to take 6000mg+ every day, which made me tired. Hot baths did nothing either. Smoking and drinking definitely assisted in causing outbreaks. I cut these two out as it had health benefits being in my mid-30s. Exercise of any sort resulted in outbreaks. Manscaping would cause outbreaks too. Depression was getting worse; I had no sex life and I needed to be me. Not a fan of prescribed medicine and avoided the doctor's being 'manly,' but I thought, what the heck, after seeing reviews on this site, and it's saved my life. 10+ years of depression gone in an instant! 400mg once or twice per day. A lot of people have HSV2, and it could be worse. Stay positive! Time to catch up for lost time."

For Cold Sores "Was given this medication for cold sores, which had gone down into my throat thanks to having a weak immune system from lupus. This needs to be tested on viral bronchitis. I had a cold sore starting as the symptoms of viral bronchitis started, so began taking the med yesterday (day 5 of cold) and took my first dose right at 24 hours ago. I'm still very tired and feel a little feverish, but my nose and chest are 90% better. My mom has had this cold/virus for 14 days and is still fighting it. I have lupus, so every cold takes me weeks to overcome. I'm sure the med is helping with my cold."

For Herpes Simplex (HSV) "I am 65 years old, and I have had genital herpes since I was 30. Acyclovir helps if I take it as soon as I feel the pain, 400 mg, 3 times a day. I didn't get it for years, but a few days ago, I could recognize the tingling. I phoned my doctor, and she sent the prescription straight away to the chemist. On my third day, it helps straight away, but the side effects are that I am feeling very tired and sleepy during the day. I suppose having an outbreak would be worse."

For Herpes Simplex, Suppression "I ended up misdiagnosed on several occasions with what felt like a UTI and or thrush. After five days of agony and burning fever, I knew something was wrong. I had one sore which experts misdiagnosed as a cyst. Finally, a GP confirmed my worst fears. An STD in my thirties. I can still count my encounters on one hand, but anyone that has sex risks taking the virus and I was just unlucky. I was lucky my partner, who was a week into our relationship, was so supportive. I take acyclovir as a preventative medication to avoid more breakouts and it works a treat. I get the odd itch but no symptoms. I sometimes feel tired with it and alcohol, I have to be careful with. Otherwise, I really recommend it for self-esteem, getting back on your feet, and with the whole acceptance aspect. One in six of us have it. This makes it manageable. A vaccine or cure would be better still... But out of all the illnesses and diseases, this isn't the worst one.. Count the blessings x"
