Important warnings
This medicine can cause some serious health issues
Do not use this medicine if you have used an MAO inhibitor in the past 14 days.
A dangerous drug interaction could occur.
MAO inhibitors include isocarboxazid, linezolid, methylene blue injection, phenelzine, rasagiline, selegiline, tranylcypromine, and others.
Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction while taking dihydrocodeine / phenylephrine: hives; difficult breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Stop using this medicine and call your doctor at once if you have:

severe dizziness or drowsiness;

weak or shallow breathing;
-
severe restlessness or nervousness;
-
severe constipation;
-
pounding heartbeats or fluttering in your chest;
-
painful or difficult urination; or
-
little or no urinating.
Common side effects may include:

mild drowsiness;

dryness of your eyes, nose, and mouth;

blurred vision; or

Nervous system
Nervous system side effects have included light-headedness, dizziness, drowsiness, headache, fatigue, sedation, confusion, hallucinations, vivid dreams, severe narcosis, lassitude, giddiness, increased irritability, and excitement.[Ref]
Gastrointestinal
Gastrointestinal side effects have included nausea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain, dry mouth, indigestion, anorexia, and spasm of biliary tract.[Ref]
Dermatologic
Dermatologic side effects have included sweating, pruritis, and skin reactions.[Ref]
Renal
Renal side effects have included granulomatous interstitial nephritis and acute renal failure.[Ref]
Cardiovascular
Cardiovascular side effects have included orthostatic hypotension and cardiac palpitations.[Ref]
