7 potential interactions and/or warnings found for the following 2 drugs:
- carbamazepine
- Teczem (diltiazem / enalapril)
Interactions between your drugs
dilTIAZem carBAMazepine
Applies to: Teczem (diltiazem / enalapril), carbamazepine
Talk to your doctor before using carBAMazepine together with dilTIAZem. Combining these medications can alter the blood levels and effects of both medications. Specifically, dilTIAZem levels may decrease, which may make the medication less effective in treating your condition. At the same time, carBAMazepine levels may increase, and you may experience more frequent and/or severe side effects. Contact your doctor if you develop headache, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, confusion, slurred speech, visual disturbances, tremors and/or incoordination, as these may be signs and symptoms of excessive carBAMazepine levels. Your doctor may be able to prescribe alternatives that do not interact, or you may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring by your doctor to safely use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Drug and food interactions
enalapril food
Applies to: Teczem (diltiazem / enalapril)
It is recommended that if you are taking enalapril you should be advised to avoid moderately high or high potassium dietary intake. This can cause high levels of potassium in your blood. Do not use salt substitutes or potassium supplements while taking enalapril, unless your doctor has told you to.
dilTIAZem food
Applies to: Teczem (diltiazem / enalapril)
Alcohol can lower your blood pressure and add to the effects of dilTIAZem. You may experience dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, or a rapid heartbeat if you drink alcohol with dilTIAZem, especially when you first start taking the medication or just after a dose increase. Grapefruit juice may also increase the effects of dilTIAZem in some people by increasing its levels in the blood. You may want to limit alcohol intake and avoid excessive consumption of grapefruit and grapefruit juice during treatment with dilTIAZem. However, if you have been regularly consuming grapefruit or grapefruit juice with dilTIAZem, do not alter the amounts of these products in your diet without first talking to your doctor or other healthcare professional. Contact your doctor if your condition changes or you experience increased side effects of dilTIAZem such as headache, irregular heartbeat, swelling, unexplained weight gain, or chest pain. Orange juice is not expected to interact.
carBAMazepine food
Applies to: carbamazepine
You should preferably avoid the regular consumption of grapefruits and grapefruit juice while taking carBAMazepine. This can cause carBAMazepine levels to increase. You should report signs of carBAMazepine side effects such as nausea, visual disturbances, dizziness, or muscle weakness to your doctor. You should avoid or limit the use of alcohol while being treated with carBAMazepine. Alcohol can increase the nervous system side effects of carBAMazepine such as dizziness, drowsiness, and difficulty concentrating. Some people may also experience impairment in thinking and judgment. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns.
enalapril food
Applies to: Teczem (diltiazem / enalapril)
Enalapril and ethanol (alcohol) may have additive effects in lowering your blood pressure. You may experience headache, dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, and/or changes in pulse or heart rate. These side effects are most likely to be seen at the beginning of treatment, following a dose increase, or when treatment is restarted after an interruption. Let your doctor know if you develop these symptoms and they do not go away after a few days or they become troublesome. Avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery until you know how the medications affect you, and use caution when getting up from a sitting or lying position. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Using dilTIAZem together with multivitamin with minerals can decrease the effects of dilTIAZem. Talk with your doctor before using dilTIAZem and multivitamin with minerals together. You may need a dose adjustment or need your blood pressure checked more often if you take both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
