Mefloquine may increase the risk of seizures and reduce the effectiveness of eslicarbazepine in the treatment of epilepsy. If you are receiving eslicarbazepine for epilepsy, you may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring by your doctor to safely use both medications. Eslicarbazepine can also reduce the blood levels of mefloquine in some cases, which may make the medication less effective in the prevention and treatment of malaria. Contact your doctor if you experience a loss of seizure control or your condition changes during treatment with these medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Food can enhance the levels of mefloquine in your body. Take mefloquine immediately after a meal. This will make it easier for your body to absorb the medication. Take each dose with a full glass, at least 8 ounces (240 mL) of water. For children or those who have difficulty swallowing, mefloquine can be crushed and mixed with water or sugar water. Talk to your healthcare provider if swallowing the tablets is difficult.
