Drug Interaction Report
3 potential interactions and/or warnings found for the following 2 drugs:
- Fanapt (iloperidone)
- patiromer
Interactions between your drugs
iloperidone patiromer
Applies to: Fanapt (iloperidone), patiromer
Using iloperidone together with patiromer can increase the risk of an irregular heart rhythm that may be serious. If your doctor prescribes these medications together, you may need regular monitoring of your electrolyte (magnesium, potassium) levels as well as other tests to safely use both medications. You should seek immediate medical attention if you develop sudden dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, or fast or pounding heartbeats during treatment with iloperidone. In addition, you should let your doctor know if you experience signs of electrolyte disturbance such as weakness, tiredness, drowsiness, confusion, muscle pain, cramps, dizziness, nausea, or vomiting. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Drug and food/lifestyle interactions
iloperidone food/lifestyle
Applies to: Fanapt (iloperidone)
Alcohol can increase the nervous system side effects of iloperidone such as dizziness, drowsiness, and difficulty concentrating. Some people may also experience impairment in thinking and judgment. You should avoid or limit the use of alcohol while being treated with iloperidone. Do not use more than the recommended dose of iloperidone, and avoid activities requiring mental alertness such as driving or operating hazardous machinery until you know how the medication affects you. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns.
patiromer food/lifestyle
Applies to: patiromer
Patiromer may bind to many different oral medications in the gastrointestinal tract and reduce their absorption into the blood stream. The effectiveness of some oral medications may be decreased when taken with patiromer. To minimize the possibility of interaction, it is recommended that you separate the dosing times of patiromer and any oral medication you take by at least three hours. Talk to your doctor if you are unable to do so or if you have other questions or concerns. Your doctor may be able to prescribe alternatives that do not interact. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
