Drug Interaction Report
4 potential interactions and/or warnings found for the following 2 drugs:
- estradiol / norgestimate
- mycophenolic acid
Interactions between your drugs
norgestimate mycophenolic acid
Applies to: estradiol / norgestimate, mycophenolic acid
Mycophenolic acid may reduce the blood levels and effects of norgestimate, which may make it less reliable as a form of birth control. Alternative or additional methods of birth control should be used during treatment with mycophenolic acid to avoid unintended pregnancy. This is particularly important because mycophenolic acid may cause pregnancy loss in the first trimester and also birth defects in the unborn child. Talk to your gynecologist or other healthcare professional for help in selecting an effective method of birth control that is best for you. If you take hormone replacement for menopause, you should contact your doctor if you experience increased frequency or worsening of your symptoms such as hot flashes, vaginal dryness, or abnormal bleeding. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Drug and food interactions
norgestimate food
Applies to: estradiol / norgestimate
Grapefruit juice may increase the blood levels of certain medications such as norgestimate. You may want to limit your consumption of grapefruit and grapefruit juice during treatment with norgestimate. However, if you have been regularly consuming grapefruit or grapefruit juice with the medication, then it is advisable for you to talk with your doctor before changing the amounts of these products in your diet, as this may alter the effects of your medication. Contact your doctor if your condition changes or you experience increased side effects. Orange juice is not expected to interact.
mycophenolic acid food
Applies to: mycophenolic acid
Take mycophenolic acid on an empty stomach 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal unless otherwise directed by your doctor. Food may reduce the absorption of mycophenolic acid. This will make it easier for your body to absorb the medication. Do not crush, chew, or cut the tablets. The tablets have a special coating to protect the stomach from irritation.
estradiol food
