Interleukin Inhibitors Drugs

Other names: IL blockers, Interleukin antagonists, Interleukin blockers

What are Interleukin inhibitors?

Interleukin inhibitors, sometimes called interleukin blockers or antagonists, are immunosuppressive medicines that dial down inflammation by blocking a specific interleukin protein or its cell receptor. Interleukins are small messenger molecules (cytokines) released by white blood cells and other immune cells to coordinate immune responses. When these signals are overactive, they can drive autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. By neutralizing a targeted interleukin (for example IL-1, IL-6, IL-17, or IL-23), these drugs help lessen symptoms in conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, severe asthma, and inflammatory bowel disease.
