Major

Chlorzoxazone (applies to Lorzone) hepatotoxicity

Major Potential Hazard, Low plausibility. Applicable conditions: Liver Disease

The use of chlorzoxazone has been associated with rare cases of serious, idiosyncratic hepatocellular toxicity. Therapy with chlorzoxazone should be administered cautiously in patients with preexisting liver disease. All patients receiving chlorzoxazone should be instructed to immediately report any signs and symptoms of hepatic injury such as fever, rash, anorexia, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, right upper quadrant pain, dark urine and jaundice, and to discontinue the drug promptly should they occur. Chlorzoxazone therapy should also be withdrawn if abnormal liver enzymes (e.g., AST, ALT, alkaline phosphatase, bilirubin) develop.
