Upadacitinib "I am 64 and have suffered from ulcerative colitis/Crohn’s disease for many years. I was having Entyvio infusions every six weeks for three years. It did help me a lot until it just quit. Daily bleeding, pain, and clots were back. My specialist put me on Rinvoq 28 days ago today. It stopped the bleeding, etc., in 2-3 days!! My stools are completely normal, and I have no urgency to get to the bathroom. I’ve been on 45 mg for 28 days. Tomorrow I start 30 mg. I’m so thankful for this medicine."

Upadacitinib "I had been in remission for UC for 8 years when I had a recurrence. My GI doctor put me on Rinvoq starting with a high dosage and then stair-stepping down on the dosage. Within 4 days, I saw a significant improvement in my bowel movements and a significant reduction in bleeding. Over the next 6-8 weeks, I continued to progress and went back into complete remission. I have not been taking any medications for almost 10 months now after being treated with Rinvoq. I had no side effects except gaining weight back."

Upadacitinib "I was diagnosed with UC in the late '90s. I had active disease until getting into remission following the Remicade trials. Remicade worked until I developed an allergy. Was on Humira for years until ins refused to pay. I went off biologics in 2018 and have been getting sicker slowly over the years until recently I have been sicker than I have been in years. I was facing colorectal surgery... and decided to try Rinvoq. The steroids did not stop the bleeding, but after 4 days, the bleeding had slowed and urgency had stopped... for the first time in over a year, I went 12 hours without bowel urgency... I have been taking the 45 mg dose for about 6 weeks. I have regained my life and have kept my bowel. The acne was immediate, but with OTC products, seems to be manageable. The fatigue is brutal. But I don't know if that is because I have been so sick for a long time or the med. I am hoping to resume my very active work life soon, but it has been a challenge. Overall, I am better."

Upadacitinib "I have had Ulcerative Colitis (UC) for over 10 years and have never had much success with any medications (have used Mesalamine, Humira, Imuran, Entyvio, Stelara, and Prednisone in the past). After a year-long severe flare with 3 hospital visits, I started taking 45 mg of Rinvoq, and my symptoms improved after only two weeks of treatment. Within 2 months, I was having solid bowel movements with no urgency or blood. The only side effect is a low white blood cell count, which caused an abdominal infection (handled out of the hospital with antibiotics). This drug has given me my life back! I have more energy now and can eat foods like raw vegetables that used to knock me down with pain and bleeding. I started on 45 mg for 8 weeks and lowered the dosage to 30 mg. I had a small flare for about a month when the dose was lowered, but after it improved. Make sure to get regular lab work done and get skin checks yearly by a dermatologist when taking this medicine."

Upadacitinib "I have been on this med for about a month now for ulcerative colitis. I am losing my vision, I am getting mouth sores, I am breaking out in my scalp, my face, my cleavage, the back of my neck, and upper back/shoulder area. I am exhausted, and I am still having stomach issues. I have decided that I am DONE. I am hoping my vision will improve now that I am no longer going to take this. It’s such a terrifying feeling to be losing your vision at only 42 years old. It’s miserable too. I can’t read anything without a pair of readers in the strongest prescription. My eyes ache and throb. I shouldn’t be driving either."

Upadacitinib "I have been taking Rinvoq for around 6 months, but I have decided to stop. Although I think it has helped with my ulcerative colitis and stopped the bleeding, it is not a suitable medication for everyone. As a 52-year-old man, I have experienced various side effects that have gotten worse over time, such as fatigue, stomach pain, intestinal blockages, and severe acne on my face, neck, and scalp. Additionally, the insurance process for this medication has been a hassle."

Upadacitinib "This is an amazing drug that I have now used for about two years. My UC was so bad, I could not leave the house. I have tried all the others with no success, including Entyvio and Stelar. I have my life back! The only side effects are folliculitis on the scalp and possible weight gain. For me, it's a godsend. I'm on the maintenance dose of 30 mg."

Upadacitinib "Been on medication for 2 months and going on a maintenance dose now. It has so far kept my UC under control after an 8-month flare-up. However, the last 3 weeks I have been suffering with dermatitis on my face, neck, and chest. I’m struggling to get rid of it with topical treatment and don’t know if it's caused by Rinvoq. Also, I feel like I have unexplained weight gain but not sure yet if it’s caused by Rinvoq."

Upadacitinib "So far, so good - it's keeping my UC in check after about 1 month of taking 3x/day. I will be dropping down to the maintenance dose after 2 months, assuming all continues to go well. The only side effect has been some pretty noticeable fatigue from time to time."

Upadacitinib "39-year-old man. I was in a flare for over 3 years, and after taking every infusion available to me, I met with the surgeons to remove my bowel and have a bag fitted until I started Rinvoq. Complete turnaround, and now in remission (confirmed by biopsy) over a year. No side effects for me. Found it best to take before bedtime. Changed my life, but I'm hoping to be drug-free by 2025."

Upadacitinib "I have been suffering from colitis for the last 7 years. I have been using Rinvoq for the last 2 months. It’s working well for me, but I have had a large hair loss. Don't know if it's because of Rinvoq. However, it looks like my life is back, thanks to Rinvoq."

Upadacitinib "My body has been rejecting biological meds, so this is my first time trying this. I'm on 45mg. I'm having crazy side effects like throat dryness and skin itching and bubbling with open sores. But I will start maintenance dose in Dec, 30mg, and the doctor says side effects will ease up. First time in six years, body inflammation is almost zero. I hope this will work long term, like 20+ years for me."

Upadacitinib "I was given Rinvoq for the treatment of my ulcerative colitis by my gastroenterologist. Unfortunately, after only my first induction dose of 45 mg, I suffered an allergic reaction with the following symptoms: headache, constricted nasal passages, difficulty breathing, pain in my upper back, pain in my lungs, my lungs felt like they were burning, lightheadedness, blurry/fuzzy vision, numbness in my left arm, pain in my left arm, cold sweats, and pain in my abdomen. Ended in the ER, and the ER doctor said to stop taking this medication."

Upadacitinib "I am taking Rinvoq since 6 months. I am seeing my cholesterol levels and triglyceride levels are going very, very high month by month. Seems this medication causes high cholesterol even when you are on a strict diet and not taking any cholesterol-rich foods. Before Rinvoq, my cholesterol levels were really good and within the limit."

Upadacitinib "I have had ulcerative colitis for forty plus years. I've been on steroids off and on, then had an infusion that did not work. So, I'm trying this. My situation is that they can't cut it out because it is the lower part. That would be a last resort."

Upadacitinib "Pros: It has lowered my bathroom trips per day and mostly manages my symptoms. I used to go 20-30 times a day. When it is working, I only go once or twice daily. Cons: I don't think this medicine is as effective for me as it is for others. I was previously on Entyvio and achieved remission within a few months, and it lasted for almost 5 years. I have been on Rinvoq for a year and have not gotten into what I would consider remission. I experience slight constipation at least once a week. I was trying to address this with fiber-rich food and supplements, but these foods tend to make my symptoms worse and push my digestive system into overdrive. Everyone with UC is different, and I could have some other underlying issues (unhealthy gut biome, diet adjustments) I need to deal with. Still, it seems like every six months I experience increased bowel activity, blood, and mucus in my stool, and pain. I am wondering if I need some supplemental medication in conjunction with Rinvoq."

"I have been suffering from ulcerative colitis for about 8 years. I've been on many medications, including other biologics like Humira and Stelara. Both of those worked until they didn't. I was in a yearlong flare-up and was losing a lot of blood. I began Rinvoq, and within a week, the symptoms had eased. At the end of week 3, my bleeding stopped. I have had a few extended colds. The oily skin and acne are not pleasant, but I would rather have them than bleed out."

Upadacitinib "Been taking Rinvoq now for 4 weeks, and it's made a world of difference. Already, I have acquired complete remission and returned to normalcy, regular physical training, and normal activity. No more inflammation, cramps, or bowel issues. Results of colonoscopy this week show a definite improvement, and the colon is no longer angry."
