For Urinary Frequency "I've been on tolterodine for 3 weeks now for my overactive bladder, and it's not helped at all. If anything, it's made it worse, not to mention side effects. Causes a very restless night, and they were supposed to help me sleep by stopping me from urinating at night, not keeping me awake. Also, I get constipation and dry mouth. I've stopped taking them for the last few days now, and I feel better already. I slept great last night, well, apart from having to get up 4 times for the toilet, but at least I get back to sleep straight away."

For Urinary Frequency "I've been taking this for a few months. I've developed terrible rib pain. I have fibromyalgia, sometimes I don't know what pain comes from where. But the rib pain has been horrible, and so has the constipation, which I never had. Sleepy all the time."

For Urinary Frequency "I’ve been on the meds for 6 days. Of course, no relief since it takes 4 to 6 weeks. I did get dry mouth and constipation. This is because the meds relax your bladder and intestinal muscles. You are supposed to drink 6 to 8 glasses of water a day to offset side effects. Defeats the purpose of the meds."

Tolterodine for Urinary Frequency "53 yr female, started using Detrol LA 4 mg approximately 2.5 yrs ago. Also tried Enablex and Vesicare. Insurance company dropped Enablex and now is dropping Detrol. Main side effects are constipation, headache, dry mouth. Headache goes away after a few days. Have gradually decreased dosage to 1/2 capsule daily, then 1/2 capsule 2-3x per week. This has relieved side effects and am still pain-free. Hoping to get off medication entirely eventually."

For Urinary Incontinence "After my insurance would no longer pay for Vesicare, which worked for me. My doctor had me try tolterodine, initially, the results were just okay, but the longer I took it, the more pronounced the side effects became. The cons outweighed the positives. I stopped taking it after my issues with incontinence cleared up. Due to an illness, valley fever, the incontinence has returned. The doctor had me restart the tolterodine. Well, once again, the side effects returned after two weeks: a fluttering in my ear canals, extreme irritability, and finally, constipation. The doctor said the generics are not all the same and that Detrol might be better, but my insurance won't pay for the name brand drug. Guess I will just have to deal with the incontinence."

For Urinary Frequency "Solved my problem of nighttime bladder pain, which caused sleep disorder. Unfortunately, it also has serious side effects. It paralyzed my intestinal tract so that even with laxatives I could not have a bowel movement. After a week, I developed acute diverticulitis and am now on serious antibiotics to clear up the infection. I understand constipation is not a common side effect."
