"I have taken 0.4 mg for two weeks after dinner meal. First 2 days it worked great. However, I'm still getting up 4-5 times each night. Have good results during the daytime. Also taking Proscar 5 mg in the morning. Hoping night improves over time."

"Stress incontinence -- piss pants at the gym when working hard. Inability to reach orgasm -- can't get over the edge and blue balls. Overall, it works, starting a stream is no problem and can empty, but now going back to a low dose of Cialis and put up with painful balls."

"I have been on Flomax and a catheter for 2 weeks. Had the catheter removed today. Only a few drops come out. Basically retaining all urine. Had to go back on a catheter the same day it was removed. The urologist only does the kind of surgery I want once a month. Looks like I may be on a catheter till March. No pain...just discomfort from the catheter. Flomax seems to be causing me problems in the morning. It takes at least an hour or more just to get out of bed. When I rise to sit on the side of the bed, my BP is good. But when I stand, my BP goes to 9x/6x. I would pass out if I remained standing. I must lay down to regain a decent BP. Flomax plus aspirin are the only drugs I was taking. But I stopped the aspirin 2 days ago. Now, only Flomax."

"Taking 0.4 mg x 1 daily in the evening. Started two weeks ago. Doctor took me off Hytrin (terazosin 10 mg). After two weeks, my flow is less than on Hytrin. My frequency and urge to pee are higher than on Hytrin. My volume of output is less. This is the second time a doctor took me off Hytrin to put me on a 'better,' newer drug. In both cases, these other medicines didn't work as well as Hytrin. Will continue the Flomax for one more week just in case it has something to do with building up in blood levels."

"I was prescribed Flomax to handle the prostatic stimulation from testosterone replacement therapy. Initially, I did experience the lack of ejaculation, all of it. I simply dealt with it for a while; but then, I began taking it at night before bed. Not only did this remove the side effect, things have started flowing much more normally. I mentioned this to my doc, and his response was, 'Why didn't I think of that?' So, to those who are experiencing this, perhaps talk with your doctor about taking Flomax at night before bed/sleep. Or simply try it if you feel comfortable doing so. I don't believe the research supports Flomax as a cause for ED or orgasm disorders-this part of your body is very complex. Other medications and reactions should be considered. Also, taking NSAIDs or pain relievers like Tylenol can affect orgasm. Go figure, but in older people, it can. I hope this info helps someone :)"

"74-year-old BPH patient used Rapaflo for 2 years with no problems. I do take BP meds. My insurance stopped coverage, so I switched to Flomax. Been using Flomax (0.4mg) the past 5 years with no major problems. Have the same 'sexual issues' mentioned by others. It does work better for me when I take it after dinner at 7:00 pm."

"I went to my doctor due to having trouble urinating. I was diagnosed with BPH and was put on 0.4 mg Flomax daily as the first line of treatment. Within 8 hours of taking the first pill, I had significant relief. I only experienced mild side effects including drowsiness, constipation, and insomnia. However, these side effects diminished after the first week."

"This medication literally saved my life. I was hospitalized for extreme fluid retention causing temporary renal failure, heart failure, and encephalitis. I had over 15 pounds of fluid removed with a Foley catheter. I have been taking Flomax for over two weeks now and my glow has greatly improved, yet I have been suffering some scary side effects which I will discuss with my doctor shortly. I take hypertension medicine and I feel like my blood pressure might be too low even while I lay down. I woke this morning feeling like someone had dropped a cinder block on my chest, debating whether to visit the ER again! I see extreme value in this medication, yet I am also worried about interactions. I understand the orthostatic hypotension, but my left foot has had a burning pain. I also have to eat a lot of electrolytes which I taste whenever they are low, thus has made some things very difficult. I also have minor exfoliative dermatitis. I don't want to stop taking this medication."

"I'm almost 62. For the last 2 years developed an enlarged prostate, and stream decreased and wouldn't completely empty. Also had dribbles. Also had constant urgency to urinate. Doctor prescribed oxybutynin. Worked great for urgency. Talked to him about dribble and stream. Put me on Flomax. Solved dribble, but I wake up at night 6 times with the pain of a fiery sledgehammer at my prostate all while urinating. After 3 weeks on Flomax, stopped taking, and pain continues. Even after urination one week later, the effects linger. Definitely not for me."

"First dose did nothing. Second dose, oh my, pressure at the base of the penis was very irritating. Had to pee three times that night, two of which I thought I could not get started, but after some relaxing, I finally did. Stopped taking after that, and the doctor said I had bad side effects. Not sure how I could ever consider trying it again. Fortunately, I can live much better without the drug. Hope your experience is much better."

"Review 2: 0.4 mg just isn't doing the trick. It resolved the initial straining, but I’m still struggling to empty my bladder. Added to that, my urine test came back with elevated levels of protein, so I got an ultrasound today. I find out in two days what the big picture is. Doctor won’t increase my dosage or recommend other drugs until test results are back. I am queued up to see a urologist, but that may take time."

"I took the drug to stop frequent nighttime bathroom visits. It increased, not decreased, my visits. A side effect was deformation of my penis. The base has become thicker, the middle more narrow, and the tip as it was before taking the drug. There is also a loss of sensitivity."

"I was prescribed this after finding out I have rather early onset BPH. I'm only 30, I was given this drug as a trial of a week, and I was afraid it'd make me lose bladder control or something, so I put off taking it for a bit, but decided the effects of BPH were annoying enough to finally try it. While I'm happy to report that I did not pee myself, I am unhappy to report that it didn't really help either. It's really hard to tell, and I am trying to be fair, because from the second I took this pill, I have felt like I have a horrible flu. My head hurts, my teeth ache, my body is fatigued. I couldn't even masturbate to pass the time because of this drug. I would take a pass on this drug unless you are absolutely desperate. I would have very much liked to tell you the pros and cons after a week, but I won't be taking a second pill."

"I have been taking 14 mg Prazosin per day (one 2 mg tablet spread out throughout the day, taking it 3 tabs, 3 tabs, 2 tabs of Prazosin and 1 x 5 mg Flomax) with a great deal of success with the urgency/dribble factor and waking up (rarely). Due to taking my last 2 tablets at bedtime (= 4 mg Prazosin), I usually have a slow urination and within the first hour of taking my one Flomax and 3 Prazosin (= 6 mg), I am great for the whole 16/- hours of the day."

"All this does is make sure the bladder gets empty. It has no medical effect on the prostate and ruins your sex life with just one pill a day. After six years of taking it, I've stopped and started using over-the-counter prostate supplements, which I feel is better than Flomax. If Flomax is the best for men's prostate health, then we're all doomed."

"Wow, this is bad. The side effects, fellas, absolutely not worth it. Go herbal or go home. Does it make you pee? Yep. Does it make the rest of your life unbearable? Yep. Good luck breathing out your nose, and if you like sex, good luck. You'd rather turn on the TV. Oh, and your orgasm, if you get there, is dry and lazy. Takes away the rapid pulses."

"I was on this drug for some retention issues, and it seemed to be working. However, on day 6, I started getting a stuffy nose, and on day 7, my nose shut down completely, and I started producing mucus like never before. It was worse than any head cold I can remember. It also ran down into my lungs and caused chest congestion. I also had anxiety, fatigue, and an elevated heart rate. I felt so bad that I got a COVID test (negative) even though I'm vaccinated. I've been off the drug for 3 days, and my sinuses are just clearing up. I still have fatigue, and my lungs are still partly congested. It is going to take a few more days for my body to get rid of all that mucus. This drug is not for me."

"I am 58 years old and was having 4 trips to the bathroom each night and dribbling starts and stops and often had to go again right away. I started 0.4 mg a week ago. It seems to be working. So far, the sex has still been OK, but I do feel more lethargic and have noticed a slight stuffiness in my nose and a scratchy throat. But I think it is OK, and I am OK with the side effects so far because now I can just pee when I need to."

"I am 81 years old and diagnosed with prostate cancer. Started doing radiation, and after the 2nd week, had trouble peeing and emptying my bladder. Could not sleep because I spent the night trying to pee. My doctor put me on Flomax, and within hours of taking the first pill, I was able to pee and empty my bladder. No side effects at all and able to have sex again, which I have not been able to prior. Great medicine, thank God."

"Following hip replacement, with one day of Foley catheter, urination was painful! Building up to pee, and for the first 15 seconds, it felt like my stream, although very weak and dribbly, was pure acid. Ouch. Expected this for a short while, but it has been 6 weeks. This week, I started taking the Flomax I had leftover from a previous kidney stone event. In a few hours, and all week so far, the pain is gone. Flow is steady and stronger. Why didn't I remember these pills sooner? Was unsure how much they helped for stone passage, but this penile pain relief was obvious."

"7 weeks into a 9-week treatment of proton radiation/prostate cancer. I started taking Flomax for weak stream (mornings), urgency, and occasional burning. 2 weeks into taking the medication, burning was relieved to some degree, much less urgency, and stream has improved a bit. But it's been an exchange of one set of side effects for another. Now, less urgency, but more frequency, up more at night, and multiple trips to the bathroom to pee in the morning (days are fine). Better stream, but also leakage and tiredness. I feel like you rob Paul to pay Peter with this drug. Can't wait to get off it (Dr. has asked me to stay on it for a bit, until I'm about 2 weeks past my last radiation treatment. I have about 10 days to go)."

"This medicine made my going to the bathroom less frequent, and it improved my dripping issues when I felt done but was not empty. I was concerned about the ejaculation issues, which do occur, but there is a positive effect. If you don’t take it every day and lay off it a day or two before you know you are going to have sex, it can actually increase your ejaculation level and length to a new heightened level. I was surprised when the ejaculations lasted for 10-15 seconds at full sensitivity. It more than made up for the few weak ones. Who knows, maybe I am just lucky, but at 57, I am having some out-of-this-world releases. Don’t get me wrong, I still get the occasional poof and nothing, but holding off for a day or two is my secret to happiness and still being able to pee. My wife now jokes that I am done, so stop acting like you're still going. But I really am, and I think she is a little jealous."

"Just started Flomax 4 days ago, and I can attest to the dizziness after standing or turning too fast, as well as cottonmouth, or in extreme cottonmouth, I refer to it as Elmer's glue mouth. At 53 years old, a diabetic, and having neuropathy, sex is a distant memory anyway, but I would never share such a private and intimate bond between husband and wife!!"

"Yes, there are side effects. The first couple of doses caused severe nausea (get Zofran from the doctor and take with Flomax for about 5 days), also tiredness and lightheadedness. I found improvement with taking the medication about an hour before bedtime. Symptoms were much more tolerable. I think the only real sexual side effect was reduced erection. If you can't pee, and I couldn't due to taking testosterone, which caused BPH. I took saw palmetto successfully for 3 years, then had to stop for surgery. Saw palmetto did not work once I resumed."

"This medicine has been great for me. I’ve had an enlarged prostate and dealt with frequent urination for 2 and a half years. I’ve tried bladder relaxers such as Vesicare and Myrbetriq and prostate shrinkers such as Cialis, yet none of them helped. Finally, my third urologist recommended Flomax. I’m on day 3 and already noticing drastic improvements. I have no trouble starting a stream or emptying, and while I still have somewhat of an urge to pee more frequently than normal, it’s not nearly as severe or often as before, and I suspect that will go away over time. It has given me some retrograde ejaculation; however, I’m not looking to impregnate anyone right now anyways. Too long; didn't read: Works great, retrograde ejaculation."
