Bactrim DS (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) for Urinary Tract Infection "Felt mild relief. Doc said it should be gone in 3 days, gave me enough to take it for 5 days in case it was not gone. I also experienced fevers and achiness. Not pleasant. Every day I had discomfort, and today I am out of it and feel terrible with my urinary tract symptoms again."

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) for Bacterial Skin Infection "I was first prescribed Augmentin for an infection from a puncture wound near the nail bed of my thumb. It made me feel like I was suffering from morning sickness and did not work. Next, I got Flagyl and Bactrim. The culture showed the Staph was sensitive to Bactrim, and the wound is so much better! Yes, there are some side effects (for me, insomnia, but I don't know if that is Flagyl or Bactrim), but it is so much better than losing my finger! I also took Florastor with the medication to reduce intestinal upset and experienced none."

For Bacterial Infection "This antibiotic combination medicine sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim is awful. The first two doses I was okay, but then I started having really bad anxiety and I couldn’t sleep. My stomach felt like it was in knots, and I had shortness of breath. I felt like I was coming down from meth!! I do not recommend this."

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) for Acne "I’ve been on Bactrim DS for 7 years. I’ll always stay on it, and I’ve had zero side effects. Just 75-95% clearer skin depending upon time of month. My blood work is perfect, I’m extremely fit, so there’s no reason you can’t stay on it for extended periods if it is a serious problem for you and you tolerate it well. I’d rather lose 5 years of life than go back to how I was. I get a special long term prescription and my life has been handed back to me after 15 years of Accutane, tetracyclines, and mycins. Nothing works like this. I’m not on birth control. It gives me the worst acne. This is what’s right for me. 10/10"

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) for Acne "I have been on Bactrim Rx for about three weeks now, and I already see a dramatic improvement in my skin. All my cystic bumps are gone, haven’t had any active breakouts since the day I started it. My skin feels smooth and looks alive and glowing. My only problem was that it made me very nauseous (as most antibiotics do for me), so I would have to take it after a full meal. But I highly recommend talking to your dermatologist about this medication if you are tired of suffering and being depressed about your skin. It’ll be 100% worth it!"

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) for Bacterial Infection "My daughter was contaminated with stenotrophomonas maltophilia bacteria during a pleural drainage procedure a year ago, and for a year, the bacteria has been treated with sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim (TMPX). The bacteria became MDR after nine months of continuous treatment, and my daughter developed acute renal failure after the overuse of this antibiotic."

SMZ-TMP DS (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) for Urinary Tract Infection "I would get a urinary tract infection when I had sex. To control the situation, my doctor prescribed SMZ-TMP DS. I took one or two a day for years. As long as I took the pills, I was not bothered with a UTI. Miss a day or two, and UTI. Worked wonderfully."

SMZ-TMP DS (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) for Urinary Tract Infection "I had smelly urine but not the usual symptoms of UTI, but the doctor put me on this and by the 4th day still had a problem and felt sick - listless, not able to eat, stomach felt like it was full and heavy. By day 8 of taking it, my son convinced me to stop the medication. I did and felt a bit better, but it is now a month later and I have lost 14 lbs and am barely able to stomach any food. I almost throw up when even thinking about eating! I have to force myself to eat--not at all happy!!!!!"

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) for Acne "If you just started this medicine, I know you're probably feeling bad about your acne. BUT LISTEN, Bactrim works from the inside out, and if you break out in the first few weeks, that's fine. Stick with it because soon your skin will be clear, and Bactrim will help stop breakouts from ever happening in the first place soon! Cleared my hormonal acne. I rarely get a pimple, and I had moderate to severe acne, and it was a lifesaver! Your acne will be cleared in just a few months. I suggest using a topical gel as well. Hang in there, it helped me during a rough time. In just 3 1/2 months, I had a clear face, just a few acne marks on my cheeks. The only thing that stinks is I'm scared to go off the antibiotic and have a relapse of acne. But I suggest this!"

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) for Urinary Tract Infection "I was prescribed Bactrim and felt worse right away. After reading the side effects, I told myself that what I was feeling was normal. I took the prescribed dosage (2 per day) for 5 days, feeling even worse on the 5th day - shaky, diarrhea, headache, nervousness, unable to sleep. Then, after some research, I discovered that there also were interaction side effects with my blood pressure medications."

SMZ-TMP DS (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) for Urinary Tract Infection "I was prescribed sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim (SMZ/TMP) twice a day for 7 days for a UTI. I have one pill left, almost all the symptoms are gone. The first day I took the pill, I was extremely sleepy. Every day after that, I had a horrible headache in the back of my head and a stiff neck that came and went every few hours, also brought on by light sensitivity. Nausea, out of breath at times, cold sweat on exertion, and jittery."

Bactrim DS (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) for Bacterial Infection "Started on this sulfate antibiotic, Bactrim, 2 days ago for an infected sebaceous cyst. Several hours after taking the first pill, I developed a 102° fever, splitting headache, muscle aches... I thought I was coming down with the flu. The second day, the same thing happened... fever, muscle aches, severe headache again. Took some Tylenol and crawled into bed for the entire afternoon. I’m not going to take tonight’s pill and call the doctor in the morning for a different antibiotic. I’ve never had reactions like this to any antibiotics I have taken in the past."

Bactrim DS (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) for Urinary Tract Infection "If you're sick, meds typically have at least one side effect you'll experience. It's a prescription drug, not a miracle homeopathic treatment found in nature. You need to follow instructions and be aware of the warnings given. Ex: DON'T DRINK ALCOHOL during the course of the med. You NEED TO EAT SOMETHING with most meds, and drinking lots of water (way more than normal) is important too. I don't eat/drink water enough on a regular basis, and I love alcohol, but if I'm on a med, I alter my lifestyle to relieve symptoms of an infection I felt were bothersome enough to go to the docs in the first place. I've had no issues with Bactrim/sulfa thankfully, and those who have might want to find out if they are allergic to it prior to writing a bad review. It's a VERY common drug allergy that shouldn't sway the opinions of those not allergic. If you happen to have severe side effects from this, or any, med please find out if you are allergic first and consider it a personal learning opportunity."

Bactrim DS (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) for Urinary Tract Infection "Fought a UTI for over a week and finally gave up and went to the doctor earlier today. He prescribed Bactrim DS twice a day for 10 days, and within an hour of my first dose, the pain was gone. I’d hardly been able to leave the bathroom for almost a full day, and all it took was one pill for me not to be absolutely miserable. I was an idiot for waiting and have had no unpleasant side effects."

Bactrim DS (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) for Urinary Tract Infection "Bactrim DS, taken twice a day, has been effective for each UTI I’ve had. It covers a resistant strain of E. coli and has been effective all the times I’ve taken it. I just make sure to eat a meal prior to taking it, and I’m fine."

Bactrim DS (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) for Urinary Tract Infection "I also had similar experiences and side effects like lethargy, shaking, confusion slightly, severe fatigue, headaches, aches, and pains, but kept taking the medicine anyway because the pain of a urinary tract infection is much, much worse. I'd rather suffer for a short time with these symptoms than suffer with a bladder infection."

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) for Bacterial Infection "I am 30. I recently had a vasectomy which caused an infection while healing. Doctor prescribed Bactrim. I noticed after my nightly dosage, I would constantly wake up like I previously would when having an anxiety attack. I thought it was just due to outside stress but after reading this page I see it may have been increased by this medication. I wish I would have known sooner. Bactrim helped with my ailments but also made me use the last of my emergency Xanax in the process."

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) for Urinary Tract Infection "I'm currently on Bactrim, first day taking the medication and I saw an immediate difference. My UTIs are horrible, I'm normally awakened from my sleep, as they hurt that bad. I'm up for hours on hours sitting on the toilet due to the urge. Bactrim is helping this a lot. Also, I see a lot of people are feeling sick while taking this medicine, my doctor recommends that I take the medicine with food. Hope this helps you guys in the future if you're experiencing sickness."

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) for Bacterial Skin Infection "I have severe medical anxiety thanks to terrible reactions to medications that started after a surgery. I’ve been on too many that made me feel absolutely crazy and had terrible side effects. I made the mistake of reading these reviews before starting Bactrim and was absolutely terrified. I took the first pill and immediately knew I was going to die and had terrible anxiety about this reaction I was going to have. But, guess what? I was FINE! I just took my last dose of a 7 day course and the only issue I had was making the mistake of going in the sun. I ended up burning a lot quicker than normal (there’s a warning for that). In fact, it had a pro to it… turns out it also helped my never ending stomach issues. Don’t let the other reviews scare you. As someone else said, most people only take the time to write reviews after a negative experience. That’s why I decided to start reviewing my positive ones."

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) for Kidney Infections "Took this medicine for a horrible, horrible, HORRIBLE kidney infection. Worked within 2 days and cleared up all of my symptoms, which was such a relief. I was told to finish off the bottle by my doctor, and the next day I developed a horrible case of the hives. I stopped taking the medicine immediately, but the hives stuck around for another 3 days. What a miserable week! So, Bactrim worked wonders for my kidney infection, but little did I know I was severely allergic to it. Take with caution."

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) for Kidney Infections "I was a bit of a moron and let a UTI go for too long. I had pain on and off for a few months in my back. Pee was cloudy, frequent urination... all that good stuff, but two days ago, I woke up and felt absolutely terrible. I was so nauseous, couldn’t eat anything, awful headache, chills, and the worst back pain I had ever felt. I went to the doctor, and she wrote this for me. I took two pills yesterday, and already today I feel a hundred times better. I don’t believe it is for everyone, obviously, due to the mixed reviews, and my mother had taken it before, and it had awful effects on her as well, but I do believe it’s worth trying because for me, it’s been wonderful. I couldn’t even bend over yesterday, and today all I have is slight dull pain in my back. Worked perfectly."
