Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim for Bacterial Skin Infection "I have just recently got out of a living environment with a bunch of roommates. I found a small pimple under my arm and thought nothing of it. After a week, it was so swollen and hot to touch that I went to the ER. The doctor didn't want to cut the 'pimple' open, but I begged him to because of the pain-and he was glad he did. The amount of bacteria that came out was astonishing! He put me on Bactrim, and even though I had some side effects, it went away. But then I got another abscess on my head about 2 months later. I took Bactrim, and it went away. Then, 2 months after that, I got another abscess on my finger. I took Bactrim, and it went away. Now I once again have 3 abscesses under my armpit and am currently on Bactrim again! 4 months later!"

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim for Bacterial Skin Infection "I have severe medical anxiety thanks to terrible reactions to medications that started after a surgery. I’ve been on too many that made me feel absolutely crazy and had terrible side effects. I made the mistake of reading these reviews before starting Bactrim and was absolutely terrified. I took the first pill and immediately knew I was going to die and had terrible anxiety about this reaction I was going to have. But, guess what? I was fine! I just took my last dose of a 7-day course, and the only issue I had was making the mistake of going in the sun. I ended up burning a lot quicker than normal (there’s a warning for that). In fact, it had a pro to it… turns out it also helped my never-ending stomach issues. Don’t let the other reviews scare you. As someone else said, most people only take the time to write reviews after a negative experience. That’s why I decided to start reviewing my positive ones."

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim for Bacterial Infection "This was not right for me. I had a severe reaction while taking this and had to go to the emergency room. Racing/irregular heartbeat, nausea, shaky legs felt weird, red blotches, slurring speech, red eyes, feverish, and generally felt very unwell."

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim for Bacterial Infection "I am 30. I recently had a vasectomy, which caused an infection while healing. Doctor prescribed Bactrim. I noticed after my nightly dosage, I would constantly wake up like I previously would when having an anxiety attack. I thought it was just due to outside stress, but after reading this page, I see it may have been increased by this medication. I wish I would have known sooner. Bactrim helped with my ailments but also made me use the last of my emergency Xanax in the process."

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim for Acne "If you just started this medicine, I know you're probably feeling bad about your acne. BUT LISTEN, Bactrim works from the inside out, and if you break out in the first few weeks, that's fine. Stick with it because soon your skin will be clear, and Bactrim will help stop breakouts from ever happening in the first place soon! Cleared my hormonal acne. I rarely get a pimple, and I had moderate to severe acne, and it was a lifesaver! Your acne will be cleared in just a few months. I suggest using a topical gel as well. Hang in there, it helped me during a rough time. In just 3 1/2 months, I had a clear face, just a few acne marks on my cheeks. The only thing that stinks is I'm scared to go off the antibiotic and have a relapse of acne. But I suggest this!"

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim for Bacterial Infection "Started on this sulfate antibiotic, Bactrim, 2 days ago for an infected sebaceous cyst. Several hours after taking the first pill, I developed a 102° fever, splitting headache, muscle aches... I thought I was coming down with the flu. The second day, the same thing happened... fever, muscle aches, severe headache again. Took some Tylenol and crawled into bed for the entire afternoon. I’m not going to take tonight’s pill and call the doctor in the morning for a different antibiotic. I’ve never had reactions like this to any antibiotics I have taken in the past."

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim for Urinary Tract Infection "Felt mild relief. Doc said it should be gone in 3 days, gave me enough to take it for 5 days in case it was not gone. I also experienced fevers and achiness. Not pleasant. Every day I had discomfort, and today I am out of it and feel terrible with my urinary tract symptoms again."

For Bacterial Infection "This sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim is by far the worst medicine. I was prescribed this medicine. It works great, but the side effects are not worth it, stop taking it immediately. On day 3 of taking it every 12 hours, almost 10 minutes later, irregular heartbeat (fast-paced), an increase/enhancement in normal anxiety, shortness of breath, fever flushing (random hot/cold flashes), constant thoughts of death (not suicidal). This medicine is a poison. Ask your doctor for a different medication or do natural remedies."

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim for Acne "My 16-year-old daughter died of heart failure from DRESS (drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms) due to Bactrim DS. Bactrim is one of the leading drugs to cause DRESS syndrome. The risk versus benefit is too high to use this wide-spectrum antibiotic for acne. There are safer alternatives. Please be cautious."

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim for Acne "I hope this helps for anyone who is wanting to take Bactrim. I got prescribed this by my dermatologist about a year and a half ago, and it’s worked wonders! Everyone’s bodies react differently to medications, but from my experience, I can honestly say that it’s cleared up my acne completely, and I had no side effects whatsoever."

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim for Kidney Infections "I was a bit of a moron and let a UTI go for too long. I had pain on and off for a few months in my back. Pee was cloudy, frequent urination... all that good stuff, but two days ago, I woke up and felt absolutely terrible. I was so nauseous, couldn’t eat anything, awful headache, chills, and the worst back pain I had ever felt. I went to the doctor, and she wrote this for me. I took two pills yesterday, and already today I feel a hundred times better. I don’t believe it is for everyone, obviously, due to the mixed reviews, and my mother had taken it before, and it had awful effects on her as well, but I do believe it’s worth trying because for me, it’s been wonderful. I couldn’t even bend over yesterday, and today all I have is slight dull pain in my back. Worked perfectly."

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim for Urinary Tract Infection "I was prescribed Bactrim and felt worse right away. After reading the side effects, I told myself that what I was feeling was normal. I took the prescribed dosage (2 per day) for 5 days, feeling even worse on the 5th day - shaky, diarrhea, headache, nervousness, unable to sleep. Then, after some research, I discovered that there also were interaction side effects with my blood pressure medications."

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim for Bacterial Infection "My daughter was contaminated with stenotrophomonas maltophilia bacteria during a pleural drainage procedure a year ago, and for a year, the bacteria has been treated with sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim (TMPX). The bacteria became MDR after nine months of continuous treatment, and my daughter developed acute renal failure after the overuse of this antibiotic."

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim for Urinary Tract Infection "I used to get UTIs every month or two until I finally started my daily dose of raw organic apple cider vinegar with “mother” mixed with honey water. It has been the only thing that has helped. I am now on my 8th month of no UTIs! It really surprised me as I’m not big into homeopathic remedies."

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim for Urinary Tract Infection "I also had similar experiences and side effects like lethargy, shaking, confusion slightly, severe fatigue, headaches, aches, and pains, but kept taking the medicine anyway because the pain of a urinary tract infection is much, much worse. I'd rather suffer for a short time with these symptoms than suffer with a bladder infection."

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim for Acne "I’ve been on Bactrim DS for 7 years. I’ll always stay on it, and I’ve had zero side effects. Just 75-95% clearer skin depending upon the time of month. My blood work is perfect, I’m extremely fit, so there’s no reason you can’t stay on it for extended periods if it is a serious problem for you and you tolerate it well. I’d rather lose 5 years of life than go back to how I was. I get a special long-term prescription, and my life has been handed back to me after 15 years of Accutane, tetracyclines, and mycins. Nothing works like this. I’m not on birth control. It gives me the worst acne. This is what’s right for me. 10/10"

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim for Kidney Infections "I was prescribed Bactrim after 2 other antibiotics that did not knock out the infection. Honestly, after reading so many bad reviews, I was reluctant to take Bactrim. However, my infection was one step from putting me in the hospital. Fast forward, I've been on it for almost 13 days. I felt immediately better after the second day. The infection is gone. I had no side effects at all. Nothing. It did suppress my appetite a tiny little bit... which I'm not complaining about! Lol. But it worked well for me. Don't forget to drink a lot of water."

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim for Urinary Tract Infection "Day 1: Prescribed 1 pill twice a day for 7 days. The medication seemed to be working, and I was urinating like normal. Day 2: That night, I ended up experiencing terrible pain on the inside and outside of my vagina, such as burning, itching, redness, and swelling. I thought it could be a reaction, but I wasn’t sure. Day 3: That morning, I ended up experiencing the same terrible pain, but it was more severe. At this point, I could hardly move, sit, or stand without it hurting. It felt like ulcers on the inside and outside of my vagina due to the terrible burning sensation. That night, the pain got even worse. I ended up having chills and body aches, possibly a low-grade fever. Day 4: I stopped taking the medication. I decided that this medication is not worth the symptoms and advised my doctor that I would not be continuing the medication. If I could rate my symptoms on a scale from 1-10, I would rate it at a 15. I will NEVER take this medication again."

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim for Bacterial Skin Infection "I was prescribed this for a nasty spider bite that got infected. The infection started getting better after one day, but the nausea is 24/7. I could hardly eat anything and had trouble sleeping because of the horrible feeling in my stomach. I was prescribed 2 pills a day for 10 days. The pills were large."

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim for Urinary Tract Infection "Fought a UTI for over a week and finally gave up and went to the doctor earlier today. He prescribed Bactrim DS twice a day for 10 days, and within an hour of my first dose, the pain was gone. I’d hardly been able to leave the bathroom for almost a full day, and all it took was one pill for me not to be absolutely miserable. I was an idiot for waiting and have had no unpleasant side effects."

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim for Bronchitis "I had a bad case of bronchitis, and Bactrim was prescribed. Within a day, I was feeling better and was completely well in 3-4 days. Amazing! However, my wife was prescribed the same drug for her bout of bronchitis and found that she was allergic to it and had horrible stomach pain. So it's obviously not for everyone."

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim for Kidney Infections "Took this medicine for a horrible, horrible, HORRIBLE kidney infection. Worked within 2 days and cleared up all of my symptoms, which was such a relief. I was told to finish off the bottle by my doctor, and the next day I developed a horrible case of the hives. I stopped taking the medicine immediately, but the hives stuck around for another 3 days. What a miserable week! So, Bactrim worked wonders for my kidney infection, but little did I know I was severely allergic to it. Take with caution."

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim for Bacterial Skin Infection "If you're ever on antibiotics, it's best to take a probiotic to help with stomach upset. However, I read you should take them as far away from your dose of antibiotic as possible. So, if you have to take it twice a day: take the Bactrim at breakfast and dinner. Then take the probiotics directly between at around lunchtime. Taking any antibiotics with food also helps. Certain antibiotics have different food instructions, so ask your pharmacist. I'm currently on Bactrim for a urinary tract infection, but I also have an infected hair that's been causing me a lot of pain in my groin, so I'm hoping this will help there as well."
