Rivaroxaban for Atrial Fibrillation "Well, on Xarelto, I didn't have a stroke, but hair fell out a ton. Also, short of breath, and ears started ringing (tinnitus) and are driving me nuts. Never had an ear issue in my life before this drug. Been on it for 1 month after my first A Fib episode. Doctor said today I can get off it. I'm 70 years old."

Rivaroxaban for Pulmonary Embolism "At 17 years of age, my daughter was admitted to the ER for breathing discomfort. She was diagnosed with pulmonary embolism in both lungs and DVT. The cause of the embolism was from taking birth control pills for only one week. She gave herself Lovenox injections for one year with no side effects but bruising. She was then put on Xarelto for 6 months. The first couple of weeks of taking Xarelto, she started experiencing hair loss, leg pain, headaches, and severe anxiety. She has lost more than half of her hair and she hardly has any eyebrow hair. We are absolutely certain the medication is the cause. She takes 25 mg once daily. The doctor will not take her off of the Xarelto. Thankfully, she only has 2 more months to go. But with all the bad reviews such as uncontrolled bleeding, stroke, and death, it has me worried sick all day and night."

Rivaroxaban for Pulmonary Embolism "Had a pulmonary embolism in March 2014. I am happy with Xarelto in that it is a pill I can take without weekly blood work. My only complaint is that I am losing my hair in clumps! I tell you it is like I am taking chemo or something. I used to have very thick, long hair, and now my hair falls out horribly in the shower, when I brush it, all day long on my clothes, in the car, whatever. Hair loss is not currently listed as a side effect, but I called the 800 number of the company and put in a complaint about it as many others have."

Rivaroxaban for Pulmonary Embolism "Never had a PE, but I became sedentary, sitting for hours working on my laptop. I also stopped drinking lots of water. The only reason the hospital found for my saddle PE was long hours of sitting & reduced water intake. Water keeps blood flowing; so does exercise. I passed out & woke up with sweating, nausea, couldn't breathe; then my heart went into a-fib. The ER did a CT scan & found a 6-inch clot! Took Xarelto 15 mg. twice daily, then 20 mg. once daily. My awesome hematologist ordered a battery of 19 separate blood tests after I'd been on Xa for 6 months. With good test results & no further clots, dosage reduced to 10 mg. once daily. Side effects: hair loss (I had thick, long hair; over 60% now gone), bizarre dreams, muscle twinges, headaches, dizziness, increased skin/nerve sensitivity & bruising, tiredness, extreme weight gain. I barely eat 2 meals daily, but gained 40 lbs. since taking Xarelto! I hope to be weaned from this drug, but I know God & Xarelto saved my life!"

Rivaroxaban for Deep Vein Thrombosis "I was prescribed Xarelto when a blood clot developed after surgery for my broken leg. I did not notice any immediate side effects until... I normally have 3-day, semi-light periods, and they went to 7-9 days of the worst ever. I won't go into detail. It also caused my iron level to drop to 17! I stayed on Xarelto for 6 months, and it worked for me. I was told Xarelto won't dissolve your clot, it just thins your blood enough to prevent the clot from growing or new clots. The existing clot is absorbed into the body. I think my hair was falling out also, but that may have been from the low iron?"

Rivaroxaban for Pulmonary Embolism "I had a PE in 2014. Will be on blood thinners for life. Specialist switched me from warfarin to Xarelto last February, and life has been three shades of hell ever since. Weight gain, pain, headaches, hair loss, ridiculous fatigue... my period was out of control-like Carrie (Stephen King) style-until I finally got an IUD device (which I have never really wanted to do, but at least my iron stores have recovered). I found a new family doctor who agreed to put me back on warfarin, but the specialist talked me out of it this winter. I'm so weak and tired I can't stand it. Started on warfarin yesterday and get to quit the Xarelto in two days. Can't wait."

Rivaroxaban for Pulmonary Embolism "Hair very thin - shedding lots. Had a hysterectomy in June 2014 and had to use a wound vacuum. Once I started on Xarelto, this wound bleeds every day and won't heal. Almost two years. Most of my fingernails and toenails fell off (dried out). Not all have grown back. Bruise easily plus round red marks appear every day."

Rivaroxaban for Pulmonary Embolism, Recurrent Event "I had multiple pulmonary embolisms a month ago and am using Xarelto 15 mg in the morning and 15 mg at night. I am very happy with it compared to warfarin I used 15 years ago for a DVT. The only complaint I have is that I feel tired and exhausted most of the time. My hair loss is less than with warfarin. I hope these side effects diminish because I have to be on blood thinners for life."

Rivaroxaban for Pulmonary Embolism "I had a doctor that did not tell me about a PE and DVT. So one morning I felt like I ran a 50-yard dash and could not catch my breath. I waited too long and went to the ER. They gave me TPA and heparin. Had the branch blocked and the right side of my heart was stressed. ICU for 3 1/2 days later I got out. I was on Xarelto twice a day and have just finished them now on once a day. I have not seen hair loss because I am already follicly challenged. I don't see anything that causes me to worry about life. I do look forward to being off it. They said 3 months and I'm done. Although my primary doctor wants me to be on it for 6 months. That will be a conversation I will tell her no! I am very active and can't afford to worry about bleeding if I fall. In conclusion, I am very happy that the technology is what it is today."

Rivaroxaban for Atrial Fibrillation "Have been taking Xarelto 20 mg for about 3 years. My hair is falling out, but the cardiologist will not agree that it is caused by the Xarelto. If this hair loss continues, I will be bald in the near future. Has anyone had this problem?"

Rivaroxaban for Deep Vein Thrombosis "I developed a DVT in my thigh after hurting my back and being unable to get around for a few weeks, ended up in the hospital for 5 days on total bed rest. Shortly after, a large DVT was found in my right thigh. I was put on Xarelto for one year. I have been on it now for 6 months, and my leg and foot stay swollen, but do not hurt. My hair fell out for the first two months and then stopped, I have had no other side effects. I feel good with the exception of getting tired more easily."

Rivaroxaban for Deep Vein Thrombosis "Two DVTs and life situations had my docs place me on Xarelto. I've had all the side effects: migraines nonstop for a month. The lower dose helped, but still vet them every couple of weeks. Hair falling out in clumps, dizziness at the start. Heavy periods, but that ended with a move to an IUD. Still, for the side effects, the lack of blood testing and with my high-stress life, thankful for these meds. But look forward to being off them."

Rivaroxaban for Congenital Heart Disease "Hair fell out in batches, shortness of breath all day, low energy, sleep issues, and sex drive down. Most like testosterone was affected. I was on for 4 months and now on Plavix. I was unable to play sports as the first 3 minutes was unbearable because of the shortness of breath. I also had issues with Brilinta. Now on Plavix for 10 days and the hair stopped falling out."

For Pulmonary Embolism "I had a PE in 2017 and was on Xarelto for 6 months. In that time, the main side effect I felt was body aches. Now, in 2022, I was on them again for another 6 months for a clot in my right leg but stopped a month early due to the terrible side effects and good test results. I'm never taking this stuff again. I had to go to the ER for internal bleeding twice, dizzy, dry skin, hair loss, lack of appetite, weight gain, crippling anxiety, headache, enlarged spleen, kidney pain, confusion, all kinds of GI issues. I've been off for one week and am feeling better every day but still have some less severe symptoms. I'm taking turmeric and bromelain now, which both are proven blood thinners, and bromelain can actually dissolve clots. I would suggest people look for a natural alternative if possible. That said, the drug did clear my first PE pretty fast, along with a clot buster injection in the stomach. Trust your own gut on these issues, my choices are my own."
