For Pulmonary Embolism "My 14-year-old daughter suffered from pulmonary embolism after a long haul flight. After long discussions with doctors, it was agreed she would be on Xarelto. She has the height and weight of an adult, so it made sense for her to be on Rivaroxaban. Various tests are being carried out as she is too young to have blood clots, so there may be an underlying problem. Initially, she experienced headaches, had a nosebleed and bleeding gums, blurred vision, fatigue, dizziness, and some bruises, but some of these symptoms have subsided. She still suffers from fatigue and some bruising, but all under control. She takes 20 mg daily and will be taking the medicine for a period of 6 months, at least. It will all be dependent on her test results!"

Rivaroxaban for Deep Vein Thrombosis "I’m 47, female, and was diagnosed with DVT in my right calf from oral contraceptives. The only side effect I had was heavier bleeding during my period (I already had heavy periods), where I couldn’t leave home. I had an ablation done, and over a month has passed, and no more bleeding (I hope no more periods ever). My AST was elevated (just 10 over the higher range), but it could also be from an intense workout 2 days before the lab was drawn. ALT was normal. I have three more months to go on Xarelto and am glad I have very minor s/e compared to some reported here."

For Atrial Fibrillation "I am 71 years old now, and I have had an irregular heartbeat for about 20 years. In that time, the doctor advised me to take 80 mg of aspirin every day, making my blood thinner. Years later, Xarelto 20 mg was advised. I can't tell if it works well because I have had no stroke, etc. I also have no side effects, like bleeding, etc. I live in Asia and pay 62 euros for 28 tablets of 20 mg. I see online how in a lot of countries, people pay a lot more-paying 3-4 times as much."

Rivaroxaban for Peripheral Arterial Disease "Prescription: 1 pill every 12 hours. Took 1 pill before bed and 1 pill in the morning. Within an hour, I was bleeding through a bruise on my arm. Doctor immediately stopped me from using Xarelto. The second part of this explanation has to do with cost. Had I continued to use Xarelto, I could not afford the $90 every month due to my Rx plan's maximum allowance per year. I would have used it all on that one drug and not been able to get any other prescriptions covered."

Rivaroxaban for Deep Vein Thrombosis "I was diagnosed with 100% DVT blockage in my left leg. The hospital gave me heparin for less than 24 hours. Then told me I had a choice to take Xarelto or Eliquis. I chose Xarelto. After taking the first pill, it upset my stomach. The second pill upset my stomach. They sent me home with a prescription. Almost immediately, I started bleeding a lot. It continued. I’ve been taking Xarelto for a little over a week now. I have a surgery upcoming in about two weeks and need to go off Xarelto five days prior to the surgery, which concerns me. I cannot get an appointment to see a hematologist until four days before the surgery. The last couple of days, the bleeding has stopped, but the pain in my leg is much worse, making it difficult to walk. I’m thankful for the Xarelto at this time. I started taking the pills with food and had no more problems with an upset stomach."

For Pulmonary Embolism "I had a PE in 2017 and was on Xarelto for 6 months. In that time, the main side effect I felt was body aches. Now, in 2022, I was on them again for another 6 months for a clot in my right leg but stopped a month early due to the terrible side effects and good test results. I'm never taking this stuff again. I had to go to the ER for internal bleeding twice, dizzy, dry skin, hair loss, lack of appetite, weight gain, crippling anxiety, headache, enlarged spleen, kidney pain, confusion, all kinds of GI issues. I've been off for one week and am feeling better every day but still have some less severe symptoms. I'm taking turmeric and bromelain now, which both are proven blood thinners, and bromelain can actually dissolve clots. I would suggest people look for a natural alternative if possible. That said, the drug did clear my first PE pretty fast, along with a clot buster injection in the stomach. Trust your own gut on these issues, my choices are my own."

For Atrial Fibrillation "Experienced tiredness, nosebleeds, rectal bleeding. A tiny cut is still bleeding three days after it happened. Not happy, seeing the doctor tomorrow."
