"Woke up with a migraine. A few hours later, I tried Nurtec for the first time. My doctor gave me samples. I placed it under my tongue as directed, and an hour later, I have had no relief. I ended up writing this review while searching to see if other people had the same experience. It's been almost 90 minutes, and I would have hoped for some relief by now."

"Wonderful drug, Nurtec, gets rid of my migraines in one hour or less, though I had one where it took a bit longer than an hour, more like two, for it to go away. Either way, wonderful drug and the only migraine abortive that has worked for my migraines. Sumatriptan was a hit and miss all the time, and Rizatriptan was horrible, made my light sensitivity even worse and made my brain feel like it was going to explode."

"Nurtec works for both me and my girlfriend. A lot of the other drugs make you sleepy. This has 0 side effects and is 100 percent effective almost. I would say it has fewer side effects than any medication I've ever taken. The other reviews about the taste and wasteful packaging are hilarious. Everyone's body is different, but this is hands down the best medication ever. Even for hangover headaches, it takes them away. The only negative is they are wicked expensive and hard to get approved by insurance and you only get 8. I have to split them in half to make them last. Around 1200 bucks for 8 of them."

"Nurtec worked great for my migraines with no immediate side effects, however, the following day it gave me horrible stomach pain lasting 3-4 days. It started day two after taking, and I was buckled over in pain and cramps. It didn’t cause gas, diarrhea, or constipation, just pain in my guts. Dull tearing pain. I tried it a couple of times to make sure it wasn’t coincidental. I would rather have a migraine."

"Originally prescribed in February 2023, I began using this medication as an abortive treatment for breakthrough migraines. I have been using it on a regular basis since then and suspect that it is causing an adverse liver reaction. Starting at the end of February, I began having intermittent severe abdominal pains from the right flank side, directly under the breastbone, which radiates towards the belly button. Two emergency room visits in February detected excessively elevated hepatic liver panel results. CT scan and abdominal ultrasound did not identify any organ blockage or visually apparent abnormality. Subsequent months of Nurtec use on a regular basis (at least 2x per week) have seen additional painful episodes of varying intensity. Most recently, on 20th June 2023, a repeat severe abdominal pain episode saw similar lab values, negative CT, MRI, and ultrasound results. This particular episode was preceded by the use of multiple Nurtec doses on 18 June 2023 (2x that day), then another dose in the afternoon of 19 June 2023."

"Have had migraines for 40 years. First time taking Nurtec - took it at 7:00 pm (dinner was at 6:00 pm) - it dulled the migraine, but did not take it away completely - still sensitive to light and sound. Then it made me feel shaky. Went to bed feeling wrung out - just odd neurologically. At 2:30 am, vomited (mostly bile) in my sleep - which I have never experienced in my life before - thank goodness I was on my side, but still aspirated some. Burned my throat, mouth, sinuses, and esophagus so badly I was hoarse for days, along with awful heartburn and nausea also. Spoke with MD, and they were very alarmed at what happened - said definitely an allergic reaction. Have tried all the biologics (Emgality, Ajovy, etc.) - too many nasty side effects with them also. I'll stick with Imitrex and Botox."

"I've had very severe migraines for years. It felt like I was out of options. I received samples from my doctor of Nurtec. I was skeptical, to say the least. I knew it was only a matter of time until my next attack. I felt the symptoms early on, like I always do with the onset of aura. I said to myself, 'Here we go again.' Time to lock myself in a dark, quiet room with an ice mask, a cold washcloth, and earplugs. We've all been there. I remembered the samples that the doc gave me. I put one under my tongue, like the product instructed me to do. The product was flavorless and dissolved in seconds. The results for me were that, within about 30 minutes, the symptoms I was experiencing were completely gone. The plans that I originally had never even happened! I said to myself, 'This is impossible. Never in my life has this happened.' I've been migraine-free using Nurtec for over a month so far (which is life-changing for me!) Thank you Biohaven!!"

"It's about a 50/50 chance if Nurtec will knock out my migraine. It takes about 2 hours to fully kick in. I have noticed it seems to take down the general migraine pain, but instead, I get really quick, intense bouts of pain. It's very strange. Hard to say if it's actually from the Nurtec, but other than that, I don't get any side effects from it!"

"My Dr. put me on Nurtec after suffering from debilitating migraines for over 15 years. Due to drug interactions, I can't take triptans or topiramate. This has been a godsend. I still have lingering headaches, but my migraines are functional now, whereas before I would be lying on a tile floor crying and vomiting. The only side effect I have had is an increase in bowel movements, but I'll take it. The minty taste is calming as well. If I take it early enough at onset and then nap, I have noticed my migraine completely gone by the time I wake up."

"I have had migraine with aura and without aura since I was 12. I had been taking triptans and Botox for migraine but was still having 8-12 migraines a month. Many lasted 3-4 days. I tried Nurtec as a preventative this week and was disappointed. The first 3 days I was headache-free, then the next three days I had a low-level migraine with vision problems. Nurtec didn’t stop the headache and other symptoms, it just tamped them down. I still had to take a triptan after waiting several hours without relief. The symptoms, while lessened, still were bad enough for me to feel slow and off-balance, have trouble reading, and feel nauseous."

"Nurtec takes my level 10 migraine pain away within an hour. What I get later is lasting dizziness (up to a month of dizziness with just one pill). I also get rebound migraines and headaches, sometimes from just 1 pill, but it’s more severe the more that I take (migraines - severe pain on one side of the head, nausea and vomiting, headaches - pain all over the head and less severe). When I took it more often, my hair started coming out like crazy. I was afraid to wash and brush my hair because so much was coming out. Now that I take it more sparingly, my hair has stopped falling out. I take it as little as possible now, although I still get the dizziness and rebounds from taking very little. I think the manufacturer seriously needs to update the side effects warning. It’s for sure causing my rebounds and dizziness, and as so many have reported hair loss with CGRP acting meds, it really seems unethical to not give these warnings. I rate it a 7 because it works, but side effects are bad."

"Works, allows me to sleep. But it does start working within 15 minutes for me, and I become pretty mentally challenged, as in operating a door becomes a mystery to me, and that's only happened since taking this, and that resolves itself in 6-8 hours, usually once I wake up, since it makes me very drowsy. Used it 4 times in the last 60 days, and noticed the problem right away, but it does work... does my migraine vanish magically... no. But the pain lessens and sleep is possible, well, inevitable because about an hour after I become 'dumb' I'm practically already asleep. So I can't take this at work, only at home. 75 mg Nurtec ODT, my RX is written 1 pill every 72 hours. The blister pack is a serious pain to try and undo when your head wants to explode from pain, so that part isn't good, but I know it's to keep the pills dry. Horrendous aftertaste as it dissolves, but it's pretty fast."

"I have cycles of migraines and occasionally, hemiplegic migraines. A smaller episode lasts 8 hours, but there are times they'll go on for weeks with repeated attacks back to back. I tried triptans, but they didn't help. I also tried Topamax, which was one of the worst experiences-didn't help, and the side effects were awful. So I was relieved to find that Nurtec works if I catch my migraine early enough (and eases the migraine if I'm already in one). No nausea so far. I find that my mouth feels a little strange sometimes, but it is mild. I don't get brain fog when I take this, which is the biggest plus. For me, I'll see benefits within 30 to 60 minutes. I also don't get tired or groggy. The only negatives: not sure how I would even begin to afford it without the copay card, the packaging is excessive, and it can be difficult to get at my pharmacy. But Nurtec was a game changer for my migraines."

"I’ve had migraines for about 15 years, however, as I’ve gotten older, they have gotten worse. I don’t like taking pills, so I’m not on any preventatives. When I get an episode, I typically get really bad pain behind an eye, throbbing headache, and nausea and vomiting. The episodes last about 2-3 days, and I get them 2 times a month. It is horrific to feel this way. I take Naratriptan, but my doctor wanted me to try Nurtec. I just tried it for the first time a few hours ago. It did relieve most of the pain after about 2 hours. With that said, I still have some pain behind the eye and feel loopy, and you can only take 1 every 24 hours, this sucks! I think I will stick with Naratriptan doses for 3 days. I don’t get why they haven’t come out with medication that actually aborts it after one dose. This is so exhausting."

"Nurtec has worked great for me. I am a daily chronic migraine sufferer. I have tried a lot of preventative and acute medications over the years. A lot of preventatives work in the beginning, but their effectiveness wanes over time. A lot of the acute medications I’ve tried have worked only partially, half of the time, not at all, or have side effects that are comparable to the migraine. I can only use Phenergan and Aleve, 3-4 times a week combined, so I’m often left stranded in a bad week. I also get nerve block injections every 3 months. However, Nurtec works every time, beautifully. It takes at least 45 minutes to kick in, but it finishes the headache 90% of the time. The other 10%, it takes it away most of the way and it never comes back stronger than that. I would like to take it as a preventative if my neuro would allow it."

"The first time I used Nurtec for migraine with aura, it relieved my headache within an hour, and I experienced mild nausea and dizziness. The next 3 times I used it for migraine with aura, the nausea and dizziness were more pronounced. The headache pain was lessened within an hour or so, but I got a second, much more severe headache with aura (rebound?) within 8 hours. These subsequent headaches lasted two plus days. I believe that the Nurtec caused these rebound headaches, and I will not use it again."

"Nurtec has been a godsend for my hemiplegic migraines. The migraines started after I had COVID, and I thought I was having a stroke. The migraine 'cocktail' they gave me at the hospital helped, but it took a while. My neurologist prescribed Nurtec, and that changed everything! The headache is typically gone within 30 minutes. I still have the 'hangover headache' afterward, but I can handle that. I just wish the medication was cheaper! I have not had any side effects thus far, but I've only had to take it about five times so far. It's so easy to use that if I get a migraine at work, I can take this and not have to leave work like I used to."

"I cannot believe I found something that works! As a lifelong migraine sufferer (diagnosed with chronic migraines and episodic clusters), I have had such bad luck finding something that helps. Triptans hurt my stomach and don't always work. It's 50/50. Topamax was a nightmare, and Emgality is taking eternity to work. I've taken Nurtec three times now, and not only does it knock out any head pain, it feels like it gives me energy. Like I really feel GOOD and like my old self. ZERO SIDE EFFECTS. Only downfall is you can only take a limited monthly amount!"

"I am compelled to write a review because this medication eliminates my migraines for days. For the past two decades, I would experience frequent periods when I would get daily migraines. One dose of this medication absolutely eliminates my headaches for days on end. Amazing."

"Please read my experience before you take this pill even if you are very healthy!!! For reference, I'm a 21-year-old female and was so excited to finally get a prescription for this after researching it, and besides migraines, I do not have any other health issues. I took this pill around 9 in the morning for the first time when I felt a migraine approaching. Less than about 7 minutes later, I was vomiting an insane amount. This continued for upwards of 15 hours, along with: full body shakes, extremely cold, extremely weak, trouble walking. I literally needed assistance putting on clothes and standing up without fainting. I have NEVER felt this way before in my entire life. It was like a mixture between alcohol poisoning and food poisoning, except the only things in my body were Nurtec and my morning cereal. I had to wear 4 hoodies to stop shaking and spent the entire day throwing up and almost went to the ER. I have the worst migraines ever, but I would rather have a migraine than take one of these pills."

"The first few times I tried Nurtec for a mild/moderate migraine, it worked. Definitely took longer to work than Imitrex, but I didn’t feel tired or nauseous at all. Woke up today with a migraine. Took a dose of Nurtec, no relief at all. I’m shocked and disappointed that Nurtec had no effect on my moderate/severe migraine today. Now I have to wait 24 hours after I took Nurtec in order to take Imitrex. My doctor said you cannot take Nurtec and Imitrex together! I’ll stick with the Imitrex from now on. It may take a couple of doses, knocks me out, but at least I know it works."

"After a series of ocular migraines, I saw a neurologist who gave me a sample packet. Although difficult to remove from packaging, they work incredibly fast. I always lay down in a dark bedroom, and when I awake, the migraine is gone. I have never had any side effects. When I went for a refill, I discovered it costs $50 per pill. Ouch. I asked the doctor for an alternative. Don't recall what it was but it did not work. Back to Nurtec."

"No! Stay away! Horrible! Do not take! Terrible! Terrible! Terrible! This will have you screaming in pain. The headache it brings on is 200x worse than any migraine. Not worth it at all! Totally unhappy with Ubrelvy too. I'm looking to just take a sleeping pill of some kind rather than a migraine abortive."

"Was given a sample by my doctor to help with migraine auras. I am very sensitive to drugs due to a mild liver condition, so I tried 1/2 a pill at the next aura incident. The aura subsided within the normal amount of time, and I felt no adverse effects at all. I am usually a little groggy with a mild headache after an aura but felt fine. I then tried a 1/2 pill during a migraine with no aura and was pain-free after 2 hours. I have had no stomach issues with this medicine and wonder to all those that have if a smaller dose would be beneficial?"

"I’ve taken it 4 times. The first time I felt better for about 6 hours. The next 3 times it has done nothing. I am also on my first injection of Ajovy. I suffer from “post concussion syndrome” and “post traumatic headaches.” The neurologist puts migraine nonintractable without aura on my medical notes as well. This is all due to a car accident. I was really hoping this would be the miracle drug I keep hearing about. I’ll probably finish out this pack. I can’t take triptans or beta blockers. I can’t take OTC NSAIDs more than 2 times a week. I have headaches and migraines daily, 30/30 days a month. I’ve tried the Cefaly device (didn’t work). The only thing that seems to decrease the intensity and make me feel a little better is sleep. I really wanted the Nurtec to work, but so far it doesn’t seem to do a thing. I haven’t had any side effects from Nurtec."
