Precautions
It is very important that your doctor check your progress at regular visits. This will allow your doctor to see if the medicine is working properly and to decide if you should continue to use it.
Check with your doctor if you used this medicine and it did not work. Also, check with your doctor if your migraine headaches are worse or if they are occurring more often since you started using this medicine.
This medicine may cause serious allergic reactions and may require immediate medical attention. Call your doctor right away if you have a rash, hives, fever, trouble breathing or swallowing, nausea, unusual tiredness or weakness, or any reddening or swelling of your eyes, face, or mouth while you are using this medicine.
Using rimegepant (the active ingredient contained in Nurtec ODT) alone or in combination with other migraine medicines for 15 or more days per month may lead to worsening of headache. You may keep a headache diary to record your headache frequency and drug use.
Do not take other medicines unless they have been discussed with your doctor. This includes prescription or nonprescription (over-the-counter [OTC]) medicines and herbal or vitamin supplements.
Serious side effects of Nurtec ODT
Along with its needed effects, rimegepant may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.
Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur while taking rimegepant:
Less common side effects
- acid or sour stomach
- belching
- heartburn
- indigestion
- nausea
- stomach discomfort, upset, or pain
Rare side effects
- difficulty in breathing or swallowing
- fever
- hives, rash
- reddening of the skin, especially around the ears
- swelling of the eyes, face, or inside of the nose
- unusual tiredness or weakness

General adverse events
The most common adverse reaction was nausea for both acute use and preventive use.[Ref]
Gastrointestinal
Abdominal pain/dyspepsia includes epigastric discomfort, gastro-esophageal reflux disease, abdominal tenderness, abdominal distention, and low and upper abdominal pain.[Ref]

- Common (1% to 10%): Urinary tract infection
Hypersensitivity
Respiratory
- Common (1% to 10%): Nasopharyngitis, upper respiratory tract infection, sinusitis
