"Originally put on high dose Pred (100) for a month, then moved to 80 for a month, then 60, 40 a month with Pill Methotrexate. Then took 20mg Pred for a year, then 10 for 2 years...and finally to 5mg for a year. However, that did not stick, so my doc recommended Solu-Medrol (IV steroids every 6 weeks). It gets out of your system in 24 hours, but the residual benefit is just like taking the daily dose. It has now been about 20 years and I continue 5mg pred pill + Methotrexate + Solu-Medrol (so, mostly steroids). In the last 2 years I finally started seeing minor bone loss. I'm only 63 years old (and was mistaken as under 55 last week). So, I wish I had started changing off steroids earlier, but am getting ready to find a med to switch to. Hopefully, it will get me some muscle strength back. Having to depend on a walker more and more, with fewer and fewer steps."

"I take prednisone 20 mg every morning for dermatomyositis, without this medicine, I get hospitalized a lot. This is the only medication that has gotten me under control without serious side effects in the 7 years I’ve been diagnosed. The benefits definitely outweigh the bad for me."
