For Bipolar Disorder "My son is 20 years old. His 1st diagnosis is Autism, social anxiety, learning disability, nonverbal, and now bipolar due to aggressive outburst behaviors. He is taking 150 mg of oxcarbazepine. When he was taking 300 mg with 3 mg of Tenex, he was completely lethargic and couldn't get up from bed. Now, at 150 mg and 0.5 mg of Tenex, he is functioning again. He is not aggressive, but he cannot stop eating. He is always dizzy in the mornings and is very anxious. I am not happy with the side effects and will discuss them with his psychiatrist to change them."

For Trigeminal Neuralgia "I started on oxcarbazepine several days ago for trigeminal neuralgia. Almost immediately developed stomach pains, headache, dizziness, and weakness. I thought it would be worth it to get rid of the nerve pain. I woke last night and had a seizure followed by copious vomiting. I couldn't find any information online on how to reduce the side effects (though some people recommend Gatorade, which I will try.) My doctor switched me to carbamazepine today, but I am unable to eat and the carbamazepine must be taken with food. I am not sure what to do. I'm concerned about having more seizures. I do have epilepsy as well as the nerve compression, but this is the first time I have had a seizure in a long time. Confused and scared."

For Borderline Personality Disorder "I just started oxcarbazepine about 4 days ago, and I've gained 11 pounds in that time. I asked for a drug that doesn't cause weight gain, and here I am, 11 lbs later. I feel much calmer and haven't been having intense rage, but I've also been super dizzy and have a really bad headache about an hour after popping the medicine. I was really excited to try it from all the positive reviews, but different medicines work differently for everyone. Please don't let this review scare you off from trying it, but just be mindful and do your own research before taking on a new medication."

For Bipolar Disorder "I take 300 mg a day, 150 mg AM + 150 mg PM, together with Halodol vial once a month and Cogentol tab daily for the side effects of the vial. I haven't suffered from a breakdown since I started taking the right dose 4 years ago. I only feel dizzy occasionally, and most of the time blurry vision. Other than that, it seems to be working well for my case! Lately, my doctor advised me to try Stimulant 400 cap twice a day to help me stay active while I'm at work."

For Trigeminal Neuralgia "My neurologist gave me Tegretol for ten years. I also have MS. Then it stopped working, I was at 1200 mg. Then, after three months of pain, she switched me to oxcarbazepine, which worked after being on 1200 mg for 2 weeks. Then I only had problems for two weeks after the dentist had to refill a tooth. Nerve got excited and had to calm back down. But my neurologist told me this would be my last try at medications. The only side effects I get are after an hour or two, my eyes become hard to focus, and if I am fatigued, walking becomes off and unbalanced."

Oxcarbazepine "I’ve been diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder and Borderline Personality Disorder. I’ve had 5 suicide attempts, 4 mental hospitalizations, and have struggled a lot with self-harm and substance abuse over the course of 7 months. I have been on Prozac for 6 months, and it helped somewhat but not much. I asked to be put on a mood stabilizer because sudden and extreme mood swings were a big problem for me. My psychiatrist put me on 150mg of Trileptal once per day. I’ve felt a lot better on it. My moods have been a lot less extreme, and the swings less frequent. When I take my meds in the morning, I feel dizzy for a few minutes, but that goes away."

For Bipolar Disorder "I'll be honest, I was terrified to start this medication due to brutal side effects of SSRIs/SNRIs and other mood stabilizers and even a few antipsychotics. I haven't tolerated any of them and I'm sensitive to meds. I developed TN and some other physical health issues, and also my anxiety skyrocketed, and I then developed some depression. I decided I had to do something. I couldn't go on, and my mood could be all over the place, and fatigue and lack of focus. I was started on 150 mg 2x a day. I decided to break the tablets in half because of my fear of meds and start very low. I haven't had any dizzy spells, maybe a little contentment and slight relaxation for a couple of hours. I'm still on gabapentin but finding I'm able to cut the dose of that down a little bit. I started yesterday. I'll probably go up to 3/4 to 1 tablet soon. I hope this will help me, but I'm already finding myself a little less agitated/anxious, which is very much welcomed. I'm so glad I became brave enough to give it a"

Oxcarbazepine "Dx MDD, GAD, PTSD, & BPD. 900 mg/day. 1200 mg/day gave me balance issues. Helps lift my depressed mood. I also take Abilify, buspirone, Klonopin, trazodone, and prazosin. Best combo I've found so far."
