For Urinary Tract Infection "Horrible experience! Was prescribed nitrofurantoin, 2 capsules daily for 7 days for UTI. On my 3rd day of taking it, started experiencing shortness of breath, numbness in my fingers, and extreme weakness, almost like I was about to pass out. Had to stay up all night! Didn’t really think it was a side effect of the medicine I was taking. Thought I’m having an asthma attack. Forced myself to finish the 7-day course. At the end, UTI didn’t clear completely!!! Moreover, now there is blood in my urine!!! Terrible drug!!! Please be careful!"

For Urinary Tract Infection "Been on this med nitrofurantoin for 3 days of a 5-day course. I've experienced the worst headaches, chills, bone pain, weakness, and upset stomach. No appetite, feeling felt like I needed to be in someone's hospital, but I am toughing it out. Feel 75 percent better, though got a follow-up Dr. appointment in the a.m. UTI is no joke. For Urinary Tract Infection "This medicine is great for infection. But the side effects have been devastating for me, causing severe neuropathy, vertigo, poor balance, muscle weakness, and hair loss, and I’m unable to walk and move my arms in the normal way since having this medication. Anyone feeling a burning pain and tingling in arms and legs should cease and ask doctor's advice."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I have never experienced a headache this bad before, so bad, I was prescribed this different antibiotic - nitrofurantoin, and after only 2 days I was so ill, shaky, sick feeling almost straight away, dizzy, weak. Nitrofurantoin for Urinary Tract Infection "This antibiotic is the absolute worst antibiotic I have ever taken in my life. Not only did it not cure my infection, it gave me horrific side effects. Within 3 to 4 hours of taking the tablets, I was sick and had the worst headache of my life, and I suffer from migraines, and this didn't even compare. It felt like my skull was being squashed. After 48 hours of shaking, sickness, weakness, and headaches, I stopped taking the tablets and went back to the doctor. What went from a mild kidney infection, I was nearly hospitalized. DO NOT TAKE THESE TABLETS! Unless you want to feel like you want to die."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I’m the type that hates taking medications, but after seeing some positive reviews on here, I decided to take the first dose. I felt good all day until later that night before the next dose. My heart was beating really fast, so I decided not to take the next dose and maybe try it the next day. The next day I felt so sick to my stomach, weak, fast heartbeat, could barely function, very tired. Black stools. It was horrible. I decided I’m not going to take any more. I only took one pill, after 3 days, I still feel like crap. I will not recommend this."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I was prescribed Nitrofurantoin for 5 days at 2 pills per day. I went in for a UTI and I am on my second day now. The symptoms of the UTI are almost completely gone, but the side effects are really annoying. I am barely able to stay awake right now, and I have a headache and it feels like everything is spinning. Nitrofurantoin for Urinary Tract Infection "I have a UTI, and the doctor prescribes Macrobid. I am freaking out, never took this medicine before. Reading about side effects and reviews, really scary stuff. I am on my 4th dosage. I notice on 3rd dosage (eating before medicine and drinking a bottle of water) after 15 minutes, I feel brain fog, extreme weakness and fatigue, blurry vision, heaviness in my chest that I have to lay down, headaches. I monitor my blood pressure, and it drops a little but does go away after about an hour and a half after I take the medicine, but it takes a lot of water before it does. I was told by the doctor to complete the medication. I am wondering if this is safe to complete? Should I stop? What do all of these symptoms mean? What is it doing to my insides that create these symptoms? Will this be a harmful dosage? It has helped my UTI, but I am afraid I am hypersensitive to medications. I think I am more concerned with getting sepsis if I don't complete it, so I will continue the treatment and pray through it."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I used to have recurrent UTIs, and my go-to was Macrobid. I never had any significant side effects aside from being tired. I took a generic this time, and it made me feel terrible: extreme fatigue, weakness, nausea with a loss of appetite. I took 10 pills, and 5 days after stopping, I still feel awful. Good news is the UTI cleared up, but I don't feel well at all."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I've just had the most miserable week of my life. Like other comments, I have had violent headaches, nausea, tummy upset, fever, chills, breathlessness, loss of appetite, and general weakness. I was told by the pharmacist they were changing the antibiotics as patients were becoming immune, but clearly this is not the drug to use. I can barely get out of bed and have to spend most of the day resting, feeling very poorly. I persevered as it says side effects will disappear once the course is over-two more days to go. I have contacted my surgery to let them know this drug does not agree with me. They were most concerned and offered to prescribe a different drug, but I don't want to suffer another set of unpleasant side effects."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I do not recommend this drug. I have taken this twice (once a year ago, and now a day ago). Both times I have been weak, shivering, unable to stay conscious for multiple days, dizzy to the point I cannot walk, a terrible fever, etc. On top of this, it hasn’t cleared my infection either time - not worth the side effects. Other medication clears the infection with minimal side effects."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I was prescribed a week's course of nitrofurantoin and had the worst side effects on day 2 onwards. I thought I had caught a stomach bug. I suddenly started to feel nauseous, extremely weak, sleepy, shortness of breath, stomach, chest, and neck pain. I even passed out! When I realized it was the antibiotics, I stopped taking them after consulting my GP. I still feel unwell 2 days after my last tablet. I will never take these again unless they did smaller doses, perhaps, but it's currently put me off, and I would ask for a different one next time."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I am a regular sufferer of cystitis/UTIs. The GP usually prescribes trimethoprim, but 4 weeks ago I was given nitrofurantoin for 7 days. The day after taking it, I had trouble breathing, coughing, and moving due to really bad chest pains. I was aching, headache, felt shaky and weak. I thought I had a bad case of flu on top of the infection. I finished the course and started to feel better, then last week the UTI came back. Saw my GP again and was given nitrofurantoin, thinking nothing of it. The day after taking it, I had trouble breathing, moving, and coughing due to bad chest pains, shaky, really felt ill, and had nosebleeds every day for 4 days. I finished taking the tablets yesterday and I have awful back pain, nausea, and still feel really unwell. I decided to Google this medication and was, in a way, relieved to hear people suffering the same (I know that sounds bad), so tomorrow I am going to ring my GP."

Nitrofurantoin for Urinary Tract Infection "Before I say this, I believe it will depend on how your body deals with the pill. It may or may not be bad for you. I was prescribed Bactrim at first for three days, but right before my last dose, I got a call from the doctor letting me know I need the Macrobid. Horrible five days. I don’t usually have side effects-at least nothing too bad, but these made me feel weak and nauseated. I had to work to catch my breath. My chest seemed heavier.
