Nitrofurantoin for Urinary Tract Infection "OMG, guys, and can’t even talk about what my body is going through right now. I feel like I have morning sickness with food poisoning and the flu all in one! What the heck is going on? I took it for my UTI, and the first day was fine! The second day, that night, I started to get really ill. My heart was pounding, my feet and legs felt like pins and needles, tingling all over my body! I was sweating after that night. The next morning, I was so nauseous and dizzy with diarrhea, and I was so weak I couldn’t even walk, I was completely incompetent whatsoever around me! I started to feel anxious and nervous, shaking, and was about to drive myself to the ER. I stopped taking it on my fourth day, and I am still feeling like garbage after 12 hours later! The symptoms are still there, not feeling any better! Had to call out for work the next two days!! I always read that one of the side effects can cause nerve damage permanently. Never again!"

Nitrofurantoin for Urinary Tract Infection "This was hands down the absolute worst experience I've come across with any medication. If you can get an alternative, definitely opt out of this one. Felt like taking poison. After taking a pill for a UTI, hours later I began feeling off and dizzy. Huge anxiety spikes for no reason and trouble concentrating. My face and neck began to get puffy and felt all bruised over. My whole body then began to get sore inside and out. Felt like my body had gotten into a car crash at that point. Had to stop taking the medication, and 24 hours later, my stomach is still doing backflips."

For Bladder Infection "I was given this to be taken as then 1 pill after having sex to avoid getting a UTI. That is what my urinary doctor gave it to me for. I am 64. It works fine, then I got a UTI and went to urgent care and was given this for 5 days, 2 pills a day. I have only taken it for 2 days, and I got more confused, weak, vivid nightmares, couldn’t stop sleeping, worst headache ever, still dizzy after not taking it for 12 hours. This needs to be reported to the FDA. It is labeled wrong, I think. It kills your red blood cells as one of the side effects. Don’t even try this drug for more than 1 pill after sex. And that’s if only having sex a couple of times a year."

Nitrofurantoin for Urinary Tract Infection "I was scared out of my wits to take this antibiotic after reading these reviews, but I am here to put your minds at ease. I'm highly allergic to penicillin and NSAIDs (Ibuprofen), so I have wicked medication anxiety when it comes to taking anything new. I had to take this for 5 days, and I was warned when I received this medication that it would cause dizziness, nausea, upset stomach, and loose stools, which is all I experienced with this pill. On the first day, I had nausea, upset stomach, and diarrhea, the second day, I had nausea and dizziness, on the 3rd day, I had nausea, upset stomach, and diarrhea. The every-other-day symptoms pattern continued the whole time I took this. Make sure you have a full stock of toilet paper at home. Pill tastes nasty."

Nitrofurantoin for Urinary Tract Infection "The first day and first dose of this antibiotic, I felt horrible. Completely out of it, pounding headache, dizziness, having trouble focusing, and this all kicked in at work. After taking the second dose a few hours before bed, I didn't feel the side effects as strongly as the first time. I'm on my second day and first dose of the day, a few hours in and I don't feel as bad, but I'm still having a little fogginess and trouble concentrating. I have five days' worth, 10 capsules in total. My UTI symptoms have subsided, and the side effects of the antibiotics don't seem to be as bad. Maybe it was my body getting used to the first day and dose, but those side effects were unbearable! Make sure you eat something hearty or greasy, wait 20-30 mins after eating to take it. In my opinion, if you're experiencing itchy skin, you're having an allergic reaction. This stuff does have some uncomfortable side effects, but it does work quickly to fix the issue. 6/10."

Nitrofurantoin for Urinary Tract Infection "I've been taking Macrobid (well, the generic version) for three days, and I woke up this morning feeling awful. I had a migraine all day yesterday but didn't really associate it with anything as I suffer from them often. This morning, I woke up nauseous, dizzy, and achy all over. I just took another dose, and it occurred to me that the medication might be causing my symptoms, so I looked it up, and from all the reviews here, it seems pretty common. I want my UTI to be cleared up, but I don't want to continue feeling like this for four more days."

For Urinary Tract Infection "This medicine started to work from day one, which was a huge relief. I took it immediately after main meals, with a full glass of water, and drank lots of water during the day, and had no stomach issues with it whatsoever. It had some unpleasant side effects (headaches most days, wooziness, tiredness in the evenings) and some weird ones (neon yellow pee!), but it also was effective against a really nasty UTI. I'd take it again if the condition returned."

For Bladder Infection "Vertigo, mental fantasies, heart stopped twice, extreme high blood pressure, weeks in hospital and rehab. Weeks learning how to do things again and walk - nearly killed me at almost 85. Should never have been prescribed."

Nitrofurantoin for Urinary Tract Infection "I also was extremely sick taking this medication. Ironically, it happened twice - the first time I was able to stomach the whole dose, but recently I had to stop after the second pill and switch to Bactrim, and then had zero issues. Macrobid left me fatigued, headaches, dizzy, aches, pounding heart, and I even threw up. Felt like the start of the flu, but worse! Will never take again."

For Bladder Infection "I had a bad reaction to this medicine. I only took it for 5 days (100 mg each night). The third day, I started to have terrible headaches, fatigue, nausea, dizziness, and pale skin. Now I have like a flu. I decided to stop it. I feel miserable. Too many side effects."

Nitrofurantoin for Urinary Tract Infection "I took this medication for a week to relieve a bladder infection at 100 mg per dosage. The entire time I've been on it, I've felt constantly nauseous, short of breath, and very dizzy with borderline vertigo. Which is bearable to some extent, however, every time I have peed while taking this, it still doesn't feel normal. Going in for another urine test to make sure it cured it because it doesn't feel like it did much."

Nitrofurantoin for Urinary Tract Infection "On my 3rd day of the drug. Cleared up UTI really quickly, but the side effect I have suffered from is really bad dizziness. Haven't been able to do anything for a couple of days for fear of falling over. It's horrendous. Last tablet tonight, so hoping this will soon be over. Never want these again."

For Bladder Infection "I took this for 3 days, it certainly got rid of the UTI, but a week later, I still feel dizzy and nauseous. I felt like I had vertigo and couldn't move my head quickly. Also, fever and just felt dreadful. I will not take this again."

For Urinary Tract Infection "After taking the first dose, I felt relieved, but the side effects are just wooziness, stomach discomfort, and some restlessness, but all these stopped after about 30 mins. It sure stopped the UTI, but since my own reaction to it was not excessive, I'm OK with it."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Never take this drug nitrofurantoin because it has really bad side effects. Dizziness, being sick, hot flashes, etc. flu-like symptoms. Every side effect to this drug I had. I'm never going to take this drug again."

For Urinary Tract Infection "It's day two today, and I have been running a high fever. I have the chills, extreme nausea, and I feel dizzy to the point of passing out. My UTI symptoms are still very much there. I've missed three days of work now. I've taken it with a big bowl of soup every time now as well. All I want to do is sleep. I'm pretty sure I slept over ten hours today so far, and I'm starting to get a headache now."

For Bladder Infection "I took this medicine, and within an hour I started to feel dizzy and lightheaded. My breathing became heavy, and I was so close to being sick. Had to down around four glasses of water to feel normalish again. The second one, it was literally ten minutes, and I was sweating real bad. Was sick around six times, and now I have what seems like my stomach is swelling, bloating. Still feel sick, off my food completely, worst medication I have ever, ever been prescribed."

For Urinary Tract Infection "The doctor prescribed these for a bad urine infection, saying that if I had any problems, I should inform the surgery and get alternative antibiotics. I took 4 of these horrible capsules; after the second one, a bad headache came on, with very bad diarrhea. I was so exhausted and couldn't think straight. I was still having to rush to the toilet frequently. I had a very bad headache in the night, very bad leg cramps, and I felt very sick. This morning, I couldn't face any food but took my morning dose with some milk. My headache got worse and worse, my heart was racing, I felt a terrible pressure in my skull, and I felt full of anger. My vision was very blurred (more than usual). I felt dizzy, I couldn't walk straight; I just felt awful, very unwell, and not myself at all. Avoid this medication."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I was prescribed 1 tablet nitrofurantoin twice daily for 3 days. I went to the walk-in center on the last day of the antibiotic course as I was panicked and concerned severe symptoms I was having were part of the water infection and needed more antibiotics. The nurse tested my urine to say no infection was now present, so the antibiotics worked!...but I have felt extremely sick, with major loss of appetite, chills and shakes, and had a panic attack in the walk-in center waiting room, which was mega embarrassing. I have just taken my last tablet at dinner today and had lower abdominal pain, so back in bed with dizziness too. Hopefully from tomorrow the symptoms will subside. So glad to learn I’m not alone!"

Nitrofurantoin for Urinary Tract Infection "I was prescribed 50 mg Macrodantin capsules to be used over the course of 7 days for treatment of a UTI. Let me tell you right now that this medicine not only doesn't work and that I still have a UTI after completing the course; the side effects were like nothing I had ever felt before, and my infection actually progressed to a kidney infection. First off, I started to feel nauseous while taking this medicine and thought that it would be alright after a few days. However, by day 3, I was in agony with abdominal pain, chest pain, lower back pain, fever, and chills. The nausea was also still there. I decided to call my doctor, and they advised that I finish my 7-day course and then call back if symptoms did not stop by day 7. By day 7, I still had a UTI, as well as chest pain, abdominal pain, headaches, nausea, dizziness, fever, and chills, all of which only started to happen once I took these antibiotics. This medicine may as well be a placebo."

Nitrofurantoin for Urinary Tract Infection "I was having severe pain in my upper right abdomen and in the back. Went to the ER, they sent me home, ended up getting worse. I went back 5 days later, the doctor prescribed me this. 100 mg of it, and I was told to take it twice a day and eat before taking it. First day, I was sicker than ever in pain, came home after 5 hours in the ER, and the pain did not go away (suspected maybe I had an STD like chlamydia/gonorrhea or trich), but the doctors said everything was negative, so they said it was just a bad UTI. I told them I was allergic to sulfa meds, and they reassured me I would be fine on this. 2nd day, I am fine with the first dose, and 2nd dose I begin to feel numb. My belly still hurts, my back too. I began to have this confusion that will not go away!!!! Dizzy, nauseated, my thoughts are not making sense, I'm sweating, I begin to hallucinate, and I am not doing good. My family is worried, and they're saying, 'you're not making any sense!' And my heart had been rapid. STAY AWAY from this."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I'm a 43-year-old female, prescribed nitrofurantoin for UTI. Waited 3 days for urine culture results before being given this. I'm allergic to most antibiotics and was VERY concerned and anxious about taking this, especially after reading the reviews. As a person who is VERY sensitive to medications and their side effects, I can say that for me, the side effects of nitrofurantoin were very few and tolerable. Some nausea for the first hour after taking each pill. I ate before taking each dose and made sure to drink a LOT of water. Slight dizziness after the first dose. It went away quickly and I am prone to episodes of vertigo. Did get a headache after an evening dose. Motrin helped with that and it may have been from my seasonal allergies, not the RX. Likely, the mild itching can be attributed to the same. No other issues to speak of. It does turn your pee neon yellow/green. Lost the very last pill down the sink, so only ended up taking it for 4.5 days. An at-home test indicates the infection is gone. While everyone is different, this nitrofurantoin medication worked well for me."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I had a four-day course of nitrofurantoin for a UTI, and pretty much the pain and symptoms went away after the first day. All good, so I thought. Day 3, it floored me. I took all the advice, drank loads, and had them with meals. I had to take to my bed with nausea and dizziness. I could not move my head without a whirling sensation. A week later, after finishing, still having dizzy moments. Very scary drug. On the pack, it says usually well tolerated. I wonder what usually means? 51%? Maybe I was one of the 49%, but I know I won’t take this again."
