For Bacterial Infection "I have been suffering with mild stomach pains and occasional diarrhea for 9 months. I am now halfway through a 10-day course of this medicine, and it seems to be working, touch wood. The side effects have been extreme diarrhea and vomiting, but if it does the trick, then this is a small price to pay."

For Bacterial Infection "This is the only medicine that treats my BV. I wish it were a shot or IV, though, because the side effects are terrible. No matter how I try to mask the taste, it still ends up on my tongue. On top of that, the medication makes me feel like I have the flu-severe nausea, vomiting, weakness, and loss of appetite. I should finish the course but don't think that I can swallow another pill if I tried."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "This is the 3rd time I’m taking metronidazole in 8 months for BV. The first 2 times, no side effects, and I even drank alcohol (which I don't recommend). I had an IUD that had to be removed, the gyn thinks it is the culprit of repeat infections. After the first pill, odor is gone & pain is better. But this time, experiencing side effects. I’m a MA, it’s a great antibiotic, gets rid of bacterial infections some antibiotics can’t. It does come with horrible side effects for many, and for me this time: severe headaches, brain fog, blurred vision, nausea, and vomiting. If you can tolerate, continue it. Eat a meal first, take with milk, wrap in a piece of fruit roll-up so residue doesn’t get on tongue. Take Tums, Gaviscon, some type of med to coat stomach 20 min before each pill, have Benadryl in case, Advil, Tylenol, or Excedrin for headaches. Don’t take Advil if sensitive to it, or don’t take Tylenol if liver disease. Good luck, I’m going to try my best to finish mine."

Metronidazole for Bacterial Infection "The worst nightmare of my life after taking Flagyl. My appendix had ruptured, after surgery, they gave me Flagyl intravenously, and my nightmares began. Fever, chills, nausea/vomiting, high blood pressure, explosive diarrhea every thirty minutes, my stomach was so extended and tight it looked like I was 9 months pregnant, anxiety, tingling in hands. After four days of absolute terror in the hospital and no one would believe me, I demanded to be taken off of Flagyl. They had me on blood pressure medicine, anti-anxiety meds, anti-nausea, pain relievers, and did an X-ray, showed it to me, my bowels were swollen to the size of baseballs in some places. They were going to operate on me again, and I said NO. As soon as I told them to take me off of Flagyl, in 12 hours my stomach started to reduce in size, my diarrhea was only every four hours instead of every 30 min. My heart rate went down, and I was able to leave the hospital the next day. I am lucky to be alive. I would give a '0'."

For Dental Abscess "I was taking this along with amoxicillin for a dental infection. The side effects were extreme. Nausea and vomiting (bile when no food), severe headache, chills and sweats alternating, diarrhea, no appetite, could not hold food down, even water, fatigue. Not sure why I had to take 2 antibiotics, but will never take this again."

For Bacterial Infection "I gave a 1 because the symptoms are so severe I barely made it through day 2. 7-day regimen of Flagyl 500 mg 3x/day with Cipro 500 mg 2x/day for colitis with acute diarrhea. People said nausea, it's not a strong enough word. It's like going through chemo. I'm vomiting up the med, and I can hardly move. I lay here in misery with painful acidic belching, brutal migraines, and severe bloating that makes my entire abdomen hard. When I get up, I vomit. Vomiting does nothing to alleviate the nausea, it just burns my burning throat. It 'cured' my diarrhea by giving me constipation. I am stopping it. No point in taking it at all if I'm just gonna throw it up. I'd rather have colitis. I'm going to keep on the Cipro."

For Bacterial Infection "The side effects! On Day 2, I felt nauseated throughout the day, then at night, the vomiting started, diarrhea followed. I suffered through, but the next day, I was rushed to the hospital. I was put on IV fluids and stuff to stop the vomiting. It has been 3 days since I stopped taking it, still battling with my appetite and the sour taste in my mouth, as well as fatigue."

For Clostridioides difficile Infection "This is the absolute WORST antibiotic I have ever taken in my life. I have been to the ER 3 times with horrible stomach spasms, nausea, and foggy brain, and no doctor could figure out what was wrong. The latest visit was today. I have finally decided to do my own research and ended up here. *The metallic taste lasts all day long and is disgusting. *After about an hour of taking it, it's like a wave hits me, and I become dizzy, disoriented, and foggy. *I have been so tired, barely able to keep focused at work. *No appetite and no thirst. *Dark urine. *Vomiting. I have lost 8 lbs on this medication, and I am cutting it short today. I wouldn't recommend this to my worst enemy."

For Bacterial Infection "I give it a 7 because it's the most effective for diverticulitis. Came out of the hospital last week. I had diverticulitis with perforation. I'm on day 5 of Flagyl, and honestly, I would rather be in the hospital. The nausea and stomach pain are unbearable. Even with food, I have to take Zofran to keep from vomiting. My head also hurts. I'm past exhaustion but can't sleep, and the diarrhea is awful."

For Bacterial Infection "Horrible drug!!! My dentist prescribed me 400 mg three times a day for a wisdom tooth infection. Within the first day or two, severe side effects started. Nausea, vomiting, most vile salty/metallic taste in my mouth 24/7, itchy face rash, and the worst of all - the numerous throat and mouth ulcers! So painful. Could not handle it, I felt like I had been poisoned!! I've been changed to amoxicillin and have had no side effects."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "This drug completely works for getting rid of the infection - I had them for bacterial vaginosis, but I had the worst side effects. I experienced stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting, headaches, severe dizziness, nightmares, and confusion. I really badly wanted to get rid of the infection, so I took the medication right until the end of the seven-day course at 400 mg twice a day, despite the side effects. You need to swallow the tablets after you have eaten, as it works best on a full stomach. I would recommend waiting about 10 minutes or so after eating for your food to be digested before taking the tablets. The tablets taste awful, so have them with a drink or swallow with food. The infection started to clear up after the first day. Just be prepared that you might get some awful side effects, but the drugs will work. Hang in there."

For Bacterial Infection "I wish I could give this a '0.' Day one, I began getting nauseous and having body aches. By day three, I was vomiting, couldn’t eat, my brain felt foggy, and I had horrible abdominal pain. I had to force myself to finish my prescription. You have to eat with it, but you have no appetite and can’t stop vomiting. I will never take this drug again!"

For Bacterial Infection "This stuff is just awful. I've had a fair few meds and antibiotics over the years and have not had anything that comes close to the misery this has caused. Prescribed 3 x 400 mg for 7 days for a tooth infection that was causing me acute tooth and ear pain. Day 1 - General malaise, something not quite right. Toothache/earache 20% gone. Day 2 - Severe nausea and stomach cramps. Couldn't even keep a glass of water down. Fatigue and lethargy. Could barely muster the strength to get out of bed and slept for 16 odd hours. Headache. Dizziness. Hot flashes. Toothache/earache 80% gone. Day 3 - Vomiting stopped but constant background nausea, so didn't eat until a small evening meal. Fatigue, lethargy, and dizziness still present. Slept 12-14 hours. Toothache/earache 90% gone. Day 4 - Back to work, but nausea/fatigue/lethargy/dizziness still present. Felt like I'd worked a super hard week by lunchtime and couldn't really complete any intellectually demanding tasks. Left work early."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "Made me sick from the time I started. Vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, headache, couldn't eat or drink anything. The pills literally started to turn into powder when they hit my mouth. Taking 500 mg, 3 a day for 7 days. I can't get past day 4. I still have BV. It's actually worse now than before I started. I do not like this medicine."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "DO NOT take this if you can avoid it! I've taken a lot of antibiotics in my life, and NEVER have I ever had such terrible side effects. Fatigue, thrush, nausea/vomiting, dark urine, migraine, and oh my god the vertigo, it's just the worst! I got prescribed this (500 mg) 2x a day for 7 days, and I stopped at day 6. First day without a dose and I still feel pretty lethargic, but overall I feel somewhat okay. I never had any symptoms from BV (didn't know I had it) other than I guess discharge, and that has stopped for now. Still a little nauseated, but nothing like I felt last night. I have had zero sleep because I was up all night vomiting! If you can finish the full prescription and come out unscathed, my hat's off to you! This antibiotic SUCKS!!!"

For Trichomoniasis "As most of these other people who have posted stated, it's no secret how bad this medicine tastes. Although I can attest to a few of the symptoms after taking it, they haven't been so severe that they affected my appetite or sleep pattern. I've come very close to wanting to throw up because of gagging on the pills. I've taken them most effectively without the nasty taste by saturating them in oil (vegetable, olive, etc.). They go down effortlessly and with no taste. I don't have time for all of the other disguises for this medicine! Lol I think many of you will maybe want to thank me later after this suggestion. Good luck!"

For Trichomoniasis "I was prescribed four 500 mg pills to take at one time. My gyno highly recommended that I take them with food because it would most likely upset my stomach. I weigh 95 lbs soaking wet, and I'd never taken antibiotics before, so it seemed like a rather harsh treatment, but I took the medication as directed. I took it around 10 pm, an hour before I went to sleep. It made me very drowsy right away. I woke up around 5 am with the most horrendous nausea imaginable, and I started vomiting an hour later. The nausea and vomiting stayed for a couple of days. I developed a fever and had chills. Other side effects I experienced: stomach cramps, diarrhea, mouth sores, that metallic taste in my mouth, extremely dark urine."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I just stopped taking the metronidazole pills last night. I was on it for BV and on Day 4 of taking 500 mg 3 times a day, and let me tell you, that was the WORST experience of my life. I’ve had UTIs and tonsillitis multiple times before, I’ve even contracted mono, so I thought I was prepared for this medication, and I was surely mistaken. Day 2, I noticed dark urine, headaches, REALLY bad nausea and vomiting, sensitivity to light, sound, and smell, loss of appetite, dizziness, confusion, and a metallic taste in all foods and drinks. Things only got worse from there. I began throwing up bile from my inability to eat and nearly passed out. I switched to the metronidazole vaginal gel, and I seriously doubt that I should’ve ever been prescribed the pills, especially without the knowledge of it and its side effects."

For Bacterial Infection "So my jaw isn't big enough for my two bottom wisdom teeth to come in after an x-ray, and with all this lockdown, dentists won't see me. Wisdom teeth are just visible, but the left side has been infected four times. I was told the first time it was due to food being stuck under the flap of gum. This time around, I've been taking 400 mg of this twice a day for the last two days and have had severe vomiting this morning. The vomiting is nothing compared to the pain. I've not slept for two nights due to pain, so hoping they start to kick in soon and this pain stops. I'd rather give birth. Last time I took these meds, they worked in like three or four days, so I'm holding out."

For Bacterial Infection "I wouldn't recommend this drug to anybody because the side effects are so severe. Although, this drug will clear your infection. I had BV and was instructed to take it twice for 7 days. In those 7 days, I experienced severe abdominal cramping (that kept me up at night), nausea, vomiting, sluggishness (sleeping longer than usual), and slightly darker urine. Make sure to avoid alcohol while taking this antibiotic because it can cause more severe side effects. On my last dosage of this pill, I stayed up all night throwing up for 7 hours, every 20 minutes. If you find that your dosage is too high, immediately contact your doctor. Not everyone experiences the same side effects, so don't stay away from this drug because of all the reviews. If you are advised by a medical professional to take it, try it out for yourself."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I cannot wait to get this poison out of my system! It made me incredibly drowsy, like I took a heavy-duty sedative. I have not been able to stay awake for 3 days! I missed a very important meeting for my son with the school because I couldn’t wake up. I am so embarrassed! I feel stuck in the twilight zone. It also caused me severe nausea, vomiting, sweating, and weakness in my arms and legs. I felt as if I could collapse if I stood up. It caused strange dreams and hallucinations also."

For Bacterial Infection "Negative experience. If you are having anorexia and nausea... especially if you have vomiting and diarrhea... and start feeling weak, go back to the doctor. On Day 5, I went to the E.R. and then was admitted (for 9 hours) for low sodium - I was dehydrated. The attending felt it was a combo of flu with the diuretic I take... although it's quite a low dose, and I stopped on day 3. They gave me IVs of saline, Mg, and K (all were low) with saline labs every 2 hours. Don't fool around with this. Get seen. I'm not sure what would have happened had I waited."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I'm on this medication for the second time. The first time I didn't wait long enough before I had sexual intercourse, and that caused the bacterial infection to come right back. But I am on my first day of the 7-day treatment, and I am really nauseous and I'm really tired. The first time I took this medicine, the side effects didn't start until day 3. As I'm typing this, I feel lost, I'm going to vomit any second while barely keeping my eyes open. Nonetheless, it works really well."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I took the 500 mg pill 2 times a day for 7 days, and it's the worst medicine I ever took. On day 3 of the medication, I had severe nausea and vomiting that I had to go to the emergency room for an IV drip. I stopped the medicine on day 4, and I had back pain and abdominal pain due to severe vomiting. NEVER AGAIN. I wish no one had to go through what I went through."
