Metronidazole for Bacterial Infection "Coming off a long bout with diarrhea (unknown causation). Very run down with constant diarrhea, but it was slowing. Developed a UTI, and the doctor prescribed Flagyl. Lots of warnings about alcohol and mouthwash. Took one tablet and became nauseous. Started vomiting. Today (second day), nausea and vomiting continued. Dehydrated and went to the ER for rehydration, anti-nausea IV, and a prescription for a new antibiotic. Still can’t take the new antibiotic because it must be taken with food, and I can’t keep any food or liquid down (11 pm, second day). Anti-nausea meds (Zofran) slow to kick in because, as the nurse explained, Flagyl (1 tablet) is still in my system. Flagyl may be fine, but be very careful. If you are prone to nausea or seasickness, or just don’t trust your tummy, do not take this. Ask for another antibiotic. Even the pharmacist, after hearing of my experience when my husband filled prescriptions today, commented that Flagyl is wretched on the stomach."

Metronidazole for Diverticulitis "I went to the ER with abdominal pain, bloating, diarrhea, and feeling sick. I was diagnosed with diverticulitis and was prescribed Flagyl, Bactrim, and Tramadol, none of which I have taken before. Gag! That's all I've been doing since taking the antibiotics, that and the hot and cold sweats, and feeling terrible. The worst is the Tramadol, which after the third dose I will not take another. I felt terrible anxiety and googled that drug and found that is a side effect in some people. I'm sipping chamomile tea to try to help the gagging with little relief, but I am taking in fluids. I have no appetite, food makes me gag when I look at it. It was good to read others' comments that this is expected with the antibiotics. This is day 2, I have 5 more to go."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I would NOT recommend this crap to my worst enemy! I've never taken medicine that made me as sick as I am. I was prescribed metronidazole to take twice a day for 7 days. It caused very bad headaches, mild fever, a horrible taste to cold drinks and foods, vomiting nearly 12 hours straight, nausea, diarrhea, ugh!! I'm on day 6 and I honestly can't wait until my last day tomorrow. It also caused a yeast infection. I just feel horrible. Like, why do they even have this medication on the market? I don't know how I'm going to take my 2nd dose for day 6 because I feel too queasy. I just want to get back to my normal self. I'm restless!"

For Diverticulitis "I was hospitalized with diverticulitis for 5 days. Previously, I was treated with Levaquin and another antibiotic, not sure of the name. After having an allergic reaction to Levaquin, I was given Flagyl. Immediately, I started having watery diarrhea, which made me weak. I could not eat or smell anything without nausea. I told my doctor, but he kept it up. After a day on intravenous Flagyl, I was throwing up green, and diarrhea was also green. I could not leave the room because I could not get any distance from the toilet. Still, they continued to pump the Flagyl in, and I got sicker and sicker. Finally, I begged my doctor to let me go home because the diverticulitis was gone because I had taken 10 days of Cipro before being admitted."

Metronidazole for Bacterial Infection "I was prescribed Flagyl for 7 days, 3 times a day. It is awful, this medicine has kept me with a headache, nauseated, and vomiting. Today is number 6, and I'm dreading the last day. I just want to be normal again!!"

For Dental Abscess "I had an abscess on my right molar and was prescribed this and Metazol. I also had nausea and vomiting and felt sickly, but compared to the pain from the abscess, I would rather take it anytime. It took one day on these meds for the swelling to go down. My whole right side was severely swollen, and one day after these meds, the swelling came down considerably, and I could face people again. I am thankful that the abscess burst after two days on the meds, and now I have undergone the extraction and surgery and am still on these meds in fear of any further infection. It's been weeks now, and I have one week to go on them and wouldn't stop even if I was hanging over a toilet bowl throwing up constantly."

For Trichomoniasis "I had really severe trich symptoms, and this cleared it up in about a week. I took the single dose of 4 pills in one day on a full stomach around noon. By 9 pm, I was throwing up nearly every hour on the hour for 5 hours, and I was nauseous all the next day. I also had discolored urine, and the pill tastes awful. BUT this antibiotic worked incredibly. The doctor said the vomiting wouldn't affect my recovery because it'd been long enough since I took the pills."

Metronidazole for Clostridioides difficile Infection "I have ulcerative colitis, and I tested positive for C. diff and was put on Flagyl - 500 mg 4x/day. The first 5 days I could function, although I had no appetite and was dizzy and nauseated. The last 6 days I was bedridden with nausea and vomiting, an aversion to food, dizziness, and the skin on my legs went numb. It's been a week now, and the skin on my legs is still numb, although it doesn't affect my mobility. I don't want to eat anything still, but the food doesn't come back up now. However, all the symptoms of C. diff are gone. It seems to have calmed down the UC as well. So yes, it worked very well so far, but the side effects for me were horrendous."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "On metronidazole for BV, and my dose is 2x daily oral for 7 days. Fine the first 3 days, and then day 4, extreme headache and nausea to the point of vomiting, and day 5 still hasn’t gone away. Afraid to take another dose, but I really need the BV to go away, so I guess I will need to stick it out."

For Diverticulitis "Do not drink alcohol while taking Flagyl or consume food or medicines that contain propylene glycol while you are taking metronidazole. You may have unpleasant side effects such as headaches, stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting, and flushing (warmth, redness, or tingly feeling)."

Metronidazole for Dental Abscess "I was prescribed Flagyl three a day for 10 days due to a tonsil abscess. I’m on the 7th day, and I will not be continuing. This medication feels like torture. I throw up or dry heave every time I take a pill. Nothing tastes normal, which makes me not want to eat or drink. I am beyond weak and have lost so much weight in so little time. My doctors told me this was normal, when in fact it feels rather unhealthy. I would honestly rather have my initial infection than to experience the side effects of this medication ever again. It’s that bad."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "Took medication, wasn't made aware of the bad taste, so I immediately vomited my first dose. Had to call doctor for another fill, as they advised it important to take twice for the whole 7 days. I bought some fruit roll-ups to wrap them when it was time to take, and this allowed me to take the medication and keep it down so that it may work as intended. This is a trick I suggest if you find yourself having trouble getting it down, as the medication alone will begin to dissolve as soon as it hits your mouth."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I'm on the last day of a 7-day prescription of metronidazole at a dose of 2x 500 mg per day. It’s my 3rd day. I have been unable to move from bed due to chronic migraine. I’m unable to work or function normally. Very light and sound sensitive. I vomited and have been nauseous. Basically, I want to cry, but my head hurts too much to even shed a tear. On the bright side, the BV seems to be gone - but at what cost?"

Metronidazole for Bacterial Infection "I had C. diff, which is a bacteria that is resistant to too many antibiotics. I caught this in the hospital. I was never so sick. Between losing weight and the vomiting and diarrhea, I thought I was going to die. Flagyl did help but took many months."

For Clostridioides difficile Infection "Medication probably is working, only on day 3 of 14-day course for C. diff. I don't have the stomach cramps and diarrhea anymore, which is wonderful. The nausea, vomiting, body aches, and headache are all kicking in now. This morning, I barely made it to the bathroom to throw up and had the dry heaves for quite a while. With the awful taste in your mouth, it is hard to drink or eat. Nothing tastes good. Even water has a yucky taste. Going to keep pushing forward, but next time I am prescribed an antibiotic, I am going to be taking a probiotic along with it. Wish my doctor or pharmacist had mentioned this when the first medication was prescribed."

For Bacterial Infection "I actually feel as though I'm dying right now. My stomach is extremely bloated and painful, has been for the last few hours. I've also been vomiting. I spoke to a doc who told me yes, it sounds like side effects from this tablet. Not happy, as I'm in so much discomfort right now."

Metronidazole for Bacterial Infection "First, just to comment on the medicine itself, I was taking 500 mg pills every 12 hours for 7 days. I did not get to finish. The medicine is amazing! The smell and discharge were gone within the 1st two pills. The worst part was the side effects, and this is why I didn't finish. I was constantly vomiting and could not sleep at all. Every time I tried to eat or drink anything, I threw it right up. I also experienced diarrhea, but that was not nearly as bad as the vomiting. I quit on day 4 because I couldn't bear the side effects, but the medicine itself is really a lifesaver!"

For Clostridioides difficile Infection "I've had C. diff for quite a while, but just got diagnosed a few weeks ago. I've taken this medication 3 times a day for two weeks (right now I still have a few days left), and I am experiencing the worst side effects any med has ever given me. The medicine tastes awful and starts immediately dissolving when it goes into your mouth, making it hard to swallow and causing an extremely bitter taste that is hard to get rid of. I am consistently nauseous every time I take it and threw up a few times from that. I still feel like I have the C. diff symptoms along with the side effects of the medicine. I also shake so much it's difficult to write and have bad feelings of vertigo, as if I am falling over. Such awful side effects."

For Bacterial Infection "I took this along with Cipro. After 3 days on a 10-day treatment, I was feeling much better. I made the decision to discontinue both. I had horrible diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, a nasty taste in my mouth, no appetite, zero energy, and sleepiness. I would not take this combo again for anything. I lost 5 lbs while taking it due to the inability to eat or drink much."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I am a student, so obviously being given this medication, where I'm told I'm not allowed to drink 48 hours before taking it and 48 hours after was going to prove to be difficult, but I managed. The tablets were so effective, and I am so happy I was given them. But I recommend anyone who decides to have a 'mad night out' after taking them to wait over a week, 72 hours is too soon, and I was very drunk and very ill, blacked out on the night, vomiting all night and the next day. Make sure they're out of your system!"

For Bacterial Infection "Metronidazole is the worst antibiotic ever. I'm vomiting since the first time I took a dose. My doctor told me to take it 4 times a day for 5 days. I couldn't do my daily activity as I am always feeling sick, nausea, headache, vomiting. And it is like my tummy is so full and I have to vomit all the food I ate so I will feel better. :( I hate this feeling. :( And it has the worst taste. Seriously. And it gives me dark urine too. I'm just on the 2nd day of my pill. 3 more days. I cannot wait until this is over. :("

For Bacterial Vaginosis "1 star rating for the pills. 10 stars for the cream. I was diagnosed with a urinary tract infection and bacterial vaginitis simultaneously. I was prescribed the pill form of Flagyl for the bacterial vaginitis. I was very nauseous after beginning the course of Flagyl, and within 24 hours, I began vomiting profusely. I vomited/dry heaved every 2 hours for about 12 hours. Since I couldn't even keep down water, much less food or the pills, the vomiting subsided. I contacted my doctor first thing the following morning, and she prescribed the Metronidazole Vaginal Cream. It worked amazingly well and cleared up the bacterial vaginitis. I had a slight yeast infection following treatment that cleared up well with over-the-counter cream."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I've been using metronidazole in pill form for the past 4 days. I obtained it for bacterial vaginitis, and it works so quickly! No odor after the 3rd pill and very little discharge. Yes, they taste bad, but only for a second. No taste at all if you have water on hand and pop the pill in and chug water fast. Simple as that. I made sure to not take the pill on an empty stomach, and so far, I've had no upset stomachs or anything! Make sure to not drink any alcohol, even mouthwash. I forgot and used mouthwash and was puking in less than 15 minutes and felt sick the rest of the day. But overall, this worked wonders, and I couldn't be happier!"

For Trichomoniasis "I'm on day 5 of taking 2 pills a day for 7 days. Now I feel no symptoms of the infection, like the itching and burning, that's all gone. No discharge. Only problem is always feeling like I'm going to vomit, and my head is always hurting, and my mouth stays dry, and my mouth tastes like I've been sucking on a bad penny. Never again will I have unprotected sex with a married man."
