For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "And so I am on day 5 of 7 on a cocktail of omeprazole, amoxicillin, and metronidazole for H. pylori. Normally, I tolerate antibiotics well, but the word I am using for this treatment is “grim.” Has to be the metronidazole which is disagreeing with me, but it seems my H. pylori is resistant to clarithromycin. I have a constant and utterly revolting taste in my mouth, which is so bad it makes me nauseous. My tongue feels thicker somehow. Chewing sugar-free gum helps, but it’s really, really, really unpleasant. Headaches in the night with some disturbed sleep, and, so far, one instance of frankly bizarre and unusually vivid nightmare."

For Trichomoniasis "Was prescribed two doses of metronidazole to take orally. Experienced darker urine, nausea, and a very bad taste in my mouth, but is it possible that this medicine can cause a yeast infection? I have been experiencing unusual discomfort in the vaginal area."

For Bacterial Infection "Given for 7 days, twice a day for bacterial vaginitis. I dipped the pill in honey and took it after full meals with lots of liquids. Never tasted it at all. Side effect of dry mouth with slight nausea but ate a little more on top of the dose. I'm now on the sixth day and feel horrible. I don't know if I actually have the flu or if this is a side effect of the medicines. I'm achy, have chills, feel dizzy, have a sore throat, and headaches. Don't want to continue if these are serious side effects, but if I stop, it may cause treatment to have been in vain! It has cleared up all symptoms of infection, though."

For Dental Abscess "I had a bad reaction to this drug, and I have never had problems with antibiotics in the past. I had to take 5 days but got to 4. I took it in good faith, never having problems before. The side effects hit me out of left field, I felt like I was being poisoned. I had high anxiety, emotional crying (I never cry), nausea, sleeplessness, shaking one minute, too hot the next, and felt like I was sinking into a black hole of despair. Thank God for the Internet and research and others on various websites having the same side effects. I am on day three of stopping, and I am about 70% getting back to normal. This antibiotic needs to be taken off the shelf, it's scary."

For Diverticulitis "My mom took metronidazole for diverticulitis. She is 82 years old. After day 4.5, we told her to stop. She was so nauseated and weak. The doctor told her to finish the medicine. So after 36 hours off, she finished seven days. That was 6 days ago. She has been to the ER two times for severe nausea and weakness since being off the medicine. She is having trouble eating because of nausea. She has been taking Zofran and it helps a little but causes constipation and dryness. Does anyone know how long this will last? It has been two weeks since the first CAT scan and diagnosis and the start of meds."

For Diverticulitis "Been on Cipro 2x & Flagyl 3x for 7 days after diverticulitis attack. Feeling hungry but don't want to eat. Feeling lightheaded, a little nauseous at times, no energy, no ambition. Flagyl taste is disgusting. No way I was going to be able to take that 3x a day for 14 days, so I cover it with peanut butter and then swallow (just like the dogs)!! Pain was pretty much gone after a couple of days, but the hardest part is the bland diet and no or very little calcium. Think some extra spicy hummus brought this on. May have to give up the hot peppers."

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "On second therapy after initial 14-day antibiotic treatment failed to rid of H. pylori. First time 140 pills, now a combination of antibiotics totaling 260 pills in 14 days. I am on a PPI, metronidazole, tetracycline, and Pepto. After taking my 3rd of 4 doses of Metron, my head starts pounding. I drink 8 oz of water for each of the 8 antibiotics daily, plus whatever extra I take from the PPI and regular water consumption outside of the antibiotics. I don’t drink, smoke, or consume caffeine, so it’s none of those. I have been a model prescription medicine taker and followed the instructions to a T. Anything after noon, when I take my third dose of this medication, is downhill. I basically become a vegetable. I’m on day 4, I don’t remember what side effects I had last treatment, but I do remember by the end of it I was ready to throw in the towel and lock myself in a closet to cry my eyes out. Side effects: irritability, fatigue, nausea, headaches, loss of appetite, moody."

For Diverticulitis "39-year-old mom of 4. On my 2nd bout of diverticulitis (1st one 7 years earlier), I was given 10 days of Flagyl & Cipro. I took them together twice a day, and then the 3rd Flagyl by itself at night. I noticed a minimal yucky taste when taking them, but by the time I had finished my water, it was usually gone. I had a metallic taste approximately 3 times total that lasted just minutes. By the last part of day 2, I was feeling better, day 3 there was no more pain. By day 4, there was some discoloration of urine - rusty colored to orange. I never ever felt anxious, nauseous, had diarrhea, or felt tired. Overall, great experience with the combo of meds!"

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I was prescribed the 500 mg x 4, taking all pills at once treatment. Became incredibly nauseous after a few hours, dizzy, dry eyes, a bad headache. Started feeling dissociative suddenly. Eventually started to become very anxious, evolved into a severe panic attack where I could not land for hours. Reached a point where I really thought I was losing it and contemplated calling for health professionals until someone came to me and could help calm me down. But I still felt a complete loss of reality and rationality, and I have never experienced this much lack of control before. It did better the symptoms for the bacterial vaginitis, but in the future, I would rather do any other treatment than this."

Metronidazole for Bacterial Infection "I have taken Flagyl multiple times for BV. I hate it each time. I tried clindamycin, but it wasn’t as effective. I took the pills with chocolate milk for the first few days, then orange juice. Then I finally saw where to wrap a fruit roll-up around the pill. I wish I would’ve known about that a long time ago. It helped a lot. My side effects were: dizzy, drowsy, stomach ache, heartburn, kind of blurry vision, headaches, back pain, frequent urination, dark urine, not much diarrhea, nausea. Finally, I didn’t have a metallic taste, but the aftertaste was awful. After taking the medication, it did give me a yeast infection, which was expected. Really, please try the fruit roll-up method, it helped a lot even with my last tablet."

For Trichomoniasis "The taste is unpleasant, though not as unpleasant as trichomoniasis. Upon the first dose (500 mg), I suffered from flu-like side effects. My neck grew stiff, I felt feverish and steadily nauseous. It did not cause me to lose my appetite, despite the nausea. Headaches became common, along with an undying thirst. Having to go to work on this medicine was as difficult as a virus. I had trouble sleeping to the extent that I actually remained awake for over thirty hours before falling asleep. It was around the third day in that I suddenly had thick, white discharge that had a musty odor, however, that only happened that one day. It is a rough pill, but it gets the job done. No pain, no gain, as they say."

For Trichomoniasis "I was given Flagyl in 2017 for BV. I could not take it as it made me feel weird. In 2018, I was diagnosed with Trich. They gave me the one dose (did not work). In 2019, I was diagnosed with Trichomoniasis again. They gave me one 2000 mg dose again. I was retested 10 days later and positive again but with minimal parasites, so the doctor wanted me to do a 7-day dose. I was scared and nervous as is, but started it because it was the only med to work and wanted to be done with it. It was tough the first few days, but after the 5th day, my body got used to it. Nausea, fatigue, and headaches were the main side effects. I've finished the course a day ago now, and my advice is only read positive reviews, take the med with a lot of food. Eat a bit, take your pill, eat the rest of the food. Do not take it on an empty stomach and do not take it right before bed, woke up sicker than heck. Take it 2 hours before you lay down so it isn't stuck in your throat all night. Your body does seem to adjust to it."

For Trichomoniasis "I was prescribed this medication, metronidazole, for Trichomonas, four pills for one day. I took the pills, I got dizzy, lightheaded, and my heart was racing. It felt like a panic attack, so I just calmed down, and it went away. Other than that, I felt fine, a little nauseous, but I ate some chips or something, and it went away. I drank water for the rest of the day, no juice or anything else, just water, and had a full meal."

For Trichomoniasis "I was prescribed four 500 mg tablets to take at once to treat itch. I made sure to take them close to bedtime so I can sleep through the cramping and nausea. Took with a Pepsi so I could mask the taste. Odor is gone the next morning. I took some probiotics with the pill to lessen my chances of catching a yeast infection from the antibiotic. Discharge and itch still present. I will update later on the effectiveness of this treatment after a week."

Metronidazole for Diverticulitis "This is the 4th time I have had diverticulitis, and one of the things I dread is having to take 500 mg of Cipro (2x a day) and 500 mg of Flagyl (3x a day) for 10 days. The nausea and stomach ache are horrible. I am now on the 7th day, and this morning I began thinking about why the problems remain so many hours after I take the drugs. I thought perhaps the drugs were not dissolving properly, so I cut the pills in half and took them in 2 pieces. I have not had nausea or stomach pain today. It did not help the fatigue and weakness, however."

Metronidazole for Trichomoniasis "Was put on Flagyl 500 mg twice a day for one week. Tomorrow morning is my last pill. Had no clue about this antibiotic. 1st pill was taken on an empty stomach, and I put the pill on the front of my tongue... big mistake! Was very aware after that what I had to do... place pill as far back as you can and drink water, fruit punch as fast as you can, on a full stomach! I constantly feel like I'm carsick, off and on headaches, some anxiety, and just an overall disconnected feeling. But... I have to admit it really works!"

Metronidazole for Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I am now on day 7 of a 14. I'm on metronidazole, omeprazole, and clarithromycin. I have had H. pylori 3 times within a year. The treatment for me has been awful. The dosage was tripled, and it has given me nausea, bloating, foggy memory, a white film on my tongue, and fatigue. The metallic taste lasts all day. The thing that you need to be aware of is if you continue to get H. pylori like I have, it can be a precursor to stomach cancer. After this round of treatment, I have taken the steps to see a gastroenterologist to insist that he does an endoscopy to ensure me that there isn't anything for me to be concerned with at this time. It's a very scary feeling to have gotten this infection at least 3 times within a year."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I took this twice a day for 7 days and have never felt so sick on a medication. I had severe headaches, bloating, constant nausea, aches, and pains all over. As many others have mentioned, it tastes rancid unless you're really proficient at throwing it into the back of your throat and chugging it down immediately. Even in a second, the taste stuck to the back of my throat and made me gag. A couple of other really important notes -- this medication lowered both my liver function (hence no alcohol while you're on it! They mean it) and my platelet count... So I was getting nosebleeds, bruises, and some fairly alarming vaginal bleeding while on it as well."

For Diverticulitis "Given Cipro and Flagyl for diverticulitis. To complicate things, I take thyroid meds first thing in the morning and blood pressure meds and supplements at night. Trying to create a way to fit everything in is hard. I take both Cipro and Flagyl together in the morning but then eat breakfast with no dairy, which is hard for me. The best thing is eggs! Drink Kefir mid-morning and then Flagyl at lunch with no dairy.... Take the last Flagyl and Cipro at 8 or so, but have to wait two hours for evening meds. Pain is gone, but I feel tired, nauseous, and have a metallic taste in my mouth! Glad I am retired, as I could not do this while working."

My side effects are nausea, lower back pain every time I stand, mouth taste blah, and tired. Oh, gas and diarrhea. I'm so glad tomorrow is my last day. The best advice I can give is to eat heavy."

For Diverticulitis "I hate this drug. Hate it, hate it, hate it. I have to take it 4 times a day for 14 days. My doctor is sadistic. I'm so nauseous I can barely breathe. Even on anti-nausea meds! I have no energy. I can't sleep. My head hurts. This feels 10x worse than the flu. But it works. It will help heal the diverticulitis. It always does. And every time it sucks."

Metronidazole for Bacterial Infection "Coming off a long bout with diarrhea (unknown causation). Very run down with constant diarrhea, but it was slowing. Developed a UTI, and the doctor prescribed Flagyl. Lots of warnings about alcohol and mouthwash. Took one tablet and became nauseous. Started vomiting. Today (second day), nausea and vomiting continued. Dehydrated and went to the ER for rehydration, anti-nausea IV, and a prescription for a new antibiotic. Still can’t take the new antibiotic because it must be taken with food, and I can’t keep any food or liquid down (11 pm, second day). Anti-nausea meds (Zofran) slow to kick in because, as the nurse explained, Flagyl (1 tablet) is still in my system. Flagyl may be fine, but be very careful. If you are prone to nausea or seasickness, or just don’t trust your tummy, do not take this. Ask for another antibiotic. Even the pharmacist, after hearing of my experience when my husband filled prescriptions today, commented that Flagyl is wretched on the stomach."
