For Dental Abscess "This is my 5th time this year on metronidazole for an impacted wisdom tooth that can't be removed but keeps developing an abscess. It usually follows a failed course of amoxicillin, and although it always clears up the infection, the side effects are pretty awful. I feel like I've had the flu for the first few days (fever, fatigue, unable to sleep, stomach cramps, and loss of appetite), which usually means I have to miss work, and then a really sickly stomach for the last three. It also takes me a few days after finishing the course for my energy levels and stomach to get back to normal. So the drug works, but the side effects are worse than my actual ailment."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I took metronidazole for BV. It worked right away, however, my first symptom was a metallic taste. Soon, my appetite was decreasing. On Day 6, I felt extremely nauseous. I have one more to take. I've never had horrible experiences swallowing pills except now. On Day 7, I'm still miserable with being nauseous to the point where I can't get up and do simple daily things. I hope I do not get this again because, although the medicine works wonders, the symptoms have been horrible."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I just stopped taking the metronidazole pills last night. I was on it for BV and on Day 4 of taking 500 mg 3 times a day, and let me tell you, that was the WORST experience of my life. I’ve had UTIs and tonsillitis multiple times before, I’ve even contracted mono, so I thought I was prepared for this medication, and I was surely mistaken. Day 2, I noticed dark urine, headaches, REALLY bad nausea and vomiting, sensitivity to light, sound, and smell, loss of appetite, dizziness, confusion, and a metallic taste in all foods and drinks. Things only got worse from there. I began throwing up bile from my inability to eat and nearly passed out. I switched to the metronidazole vaginal gel, and I seriously doubt that I should’ve ever been prescribed the pills, especially without the knowledge of it and its side effects."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "My doctor found BV during a regular Pap smear. I thought it was a mild case of thrush and put me on metro 3 times daily. Had headache, tiredness, occasional dizziness, sore kidneys, dark urine, loss of appetite, and everything tastes kind of wrong. Worst and most unexpected is that, despite assurances that it wouldn't, it appears to be interacting with my Cymbalta and setting off panic attack and aggression. At least the BV seems to be clearing up quickly!"

For Bacterial Infection "I've had BV before and was prescribed the gel years ago. This time I was prescribed 500 mg to take 7 days, twice a day. I can’t even make it to day 3. I feel awful, symptoms kicked in the next day after taking: headache, blurred vision, stumble, no appetite. I feel better as far as the BV goes, but when do these symptoms go away? I just feel blank. I’m only giving this a 1 star because it seemed to work for BV, but I feel terrible, awful."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "Day 1 on these meds was euphoric. Day 2 was normal, and by Day 3, I was unable to move, I was so sick. I found all these reviews as I lay on my couch crying. It really helped to know I wasn't alone (thanks!). I had stomach-like flu symptoms: aching, numbness, dizziness, nausea, a horrible stomach ache, and no appetite. I'd have to give myself a pep talk before swallowing each pill. But I survived. With some proactive measures, the effects weren't as bad. And the problem is gone. Here's what worked for me: take the pills with a monstrously big meal. Hard to do when you're nauseous. No alcohol at all, but also no fermented foods: kombucha, pickles, soy sauce, cooking wine (best to stay away from Chinese food), and vinegar. Get tons of rest."

For Giardiasis "This medication is rough! I was having GI issues for 2 weeks after getting back from a trip to SE Asia. The stool test suggested I had Giardia and ova and other parasites - yikes! Started on metronidazole 500 mg, three times daily, for 7 days. Made it 3.5 days and requested to switch meds. Side effects included headache, brain fog, fatigue, urine discoloration, nausea, loss of appetite, and a metallic taste."

For Bacterial Infection "I was so out of it on this medicine! Took me a while to figure out this was the cause of all my symptoms because I thought my sinuses were acting up or I was catching something. Had to take twice for 7 days. I had a bad headache, felt dizzy the whole time, felt really warm under my skin or hot and cold at the same time. My skin felt itchy/tingly and felt really tired and had loss of appetite. It fixed the BV, but I had to take off work, I felt so bad!"

For Bacterial Vaginosis "Really did work for me. No more discharge or weird smell. 14 pills, took one in the morning and one at night. Cons are I got sick on the 3rd day, gone be 5th day. They are big and have a nasty taste. I did lose my appetite, which is a plus to me because it helped me shed a few pounds faster."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "This medication works great, you can literally notice the difference after one dose, but I would much rather deal with the infection than ever take this medication again. Severe headaches, nausea, loss of appetite. Feeling like I got ran over by a train. Day 4, and I called it quits. My headaches were so bad I couldn't even sit up without assistance. Never again! Definitely will be asking for something different next time around."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "This medicine works, but oh my gosh, the headaches I have been having, my vision getting worse, always tired, loss of appetite, I feel like throwing up after taking the pill. The taste is absolutely disgusting, I can't handle it, but what can I do when this seems to be the only thing that really works? I have 3 more days left!"

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I have been taking this medicine for 5 days now, 3 times a day. I also was just starting my cycle when I began taking this medicine for BV. It has completely cleared up the heavy discharge and foul smell, but the side effects have had me sick. Every day I feel nauseous, no appetite, and find myself awake in the middle of the night. I have had no energy, and everything I try to eat feels like it gives me indigestion. Working and taking these pills have made it very difficult this past week. Today, which is Saturday, I took the 1st pill, but I skipped the 2nd one due to feeling absolutely horrible. Well, now it's bedtime, and I've taken the 3rd one. I'm not taking any of them tomorrow because I can't stand another day of this sickening feeling."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "Due to the menopause, I had BV and was prescribed metronidazole. Luckily, I had no side effects, and BV went. Sadly, I have BV again and was given metronidazole again, this time 2000 mg in 5 tablets in 1 day. This time I have felt off and drained with poor appetite, but that's all. Luckily, my symptoms are already, after 4 tablets (1600 mg), going. I also had metronidazole after experiencing an infection after the removal of a tumor on my cervix. I was very ill, but not through the drug. I'm sad to hear many people have had bad experiences with this drug, and I really hope you all make good recoveries. Guess I'm just lucky. I will also not be using bubble bath anymore."

For Bacterial Infection "I was prescribed this drug after getting a C. diff infection after a round of amoxicillin. The drug seemed to work after the first dose, but after the 10 days, I still don’t feel like the infection is fully gone. I’m nervously waiting for it to come back and be prescribed more of this medication! It made me lose my appetite for food, but I found that the more I ate, the less nausea I would get. I literally had to force myself to eat to avoid a terrible night of no sleep, dizziness, and nausea. I hope to never have to take it again, but like I said, I don’t feel like the infection is fully gone, so it’s likely."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "Metronidazole only works for me in tablet form. I’ve been given capsules and gel, both of which didn’t cause the symptoms that the tablet did but weren’t effective for that round of BV. I feel sick and have no appetite, tired and down, for sure! But ladies, if you want a natural way to get rid of it, do boric acid suppositories 7 days once at night, then once a week for 6 weeks. I had BV for months and wish I had been given this info to cure it, so hope it helps someone! It should be gone after the 7 days, but do once a week to ensure it doesn’t come back or follow up your metronidazole with the boric acid suppositories, that’s what I did. It was the only thing that worked for me when the capsules and gel didn’t last time I had it!"

For Bacterial Vaginosis "This is the worst antibiotic I have ever taken! I was on the oral 7-day course for BV. The first couple of days were okay. Just loss of appetite and slight nausea. Day 3, I started feeling a fiery burning sensation in my left foot, and the rest of the time on this drug, I was experiencing tingling throughout my arms, legs, hands, and feet. All 7 days, my eyes were burning and had awful pain in my left eye, as well as headaches every day. I’m on day one off of the meds and still experiencing all of these symptoms. I can’t wait to have this drug out of my system! Hoping that this all goes away soon. I would not advise people to take this drug."

For Giardiasis "I've been experiencing intermittent diarrhea for like 4 weeks, unsure why. Doc prescribed me this medication (Dazomet) brand. Today's my last day. These are the things I'm experiencing since day 1: 3 times a day, 500 mg for 7 days. 1) dark urine almost brown (the smell of antibiotic makes me vomit) 2) bloated and stomach cramps 3) abdominal pain 4) I also feel like I have the flu 5) behavioral changes (I've been depressed, clingy, etc.) 6) I can't sleep that much due to mentioned cramps, and I feel tired and weak. 7) loss of appetite. I don't want to eat much even if I want to because I feel like vomiting every day. But I feel a lot better now. The side effects are lesser and tolerable as the day goes by. Diarrhea did not come back, and I will go back to the doctor for a follow-up."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I too have had a horrible experience with this medication. By my 4th dose, I am extremely nauseous, my body feels exhausted beyond compare, and I feel like I am going to collapse at any moment. Have no appetite, horrible acid reflux, and no will to get up out of the bed. I was going to try to commit to the full dose of 500 mg 2x a day for 7 days, but I've had enough and can't handle these symptoms any longer! Throwing this script in the trash and never taking this poison again!"

I do get nauseous, and it loses my appetite. But everything has been okay, as long as my BV is gone, I’ll be more than happy."

For Bacterial Infection "Today is my last day with Metronidazole. I had 500 mg three times a day for 10 days. I normally don't have any side effects from medication, however, this one made me so sick. Diarrhea, headache, nausea, dizziness, loss of appetite, weight loss, cramps - I had all for 10 days. I feel sluggish at work, all I want to do is lay down. I didn't stop since this is an antibiotic, yet I will totally refuse this med to take next time doctors prescribe. NEVER AGAIN!"

For Giardiasis "Female, 120 lbs. Was prescribed this medication for a parasitic infection (Blastocystis) at 500 mg three times a day for 10 days. I had the pharmacist turn it into 250 mg twice, three times a day as I have trouble swallowing large pills. After the first day of taking these, I woke up at 2 a.m. and vomited a total of 6 times before the Gravol finally kicked in. Been taking Gravol along with my meds ever since. Also been experiencing brain fog (possibly due to Gravol), severe fatigue (Gravol again?), and loss of appetite. You absolutely must eat food before taking these, especially if you are prone to nausea like me. Won't know if the med even works until I do a stool test after the 10 days."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I was prescribed this antibiotic. After one day, symptoms reduced. However, this made me feel constant nausea and a complete loss of appetite. I had to force my lunch down at work. Although it gave me nausea, I wasn’t ever vomiting with it. In the future, I will only take this antibiotic if there is an urgency for it."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "Taking 500 mg twice a day for 7 days. With what seems to be chronic BV (no odor but itching/irritation and constant insane amounts of discharge), this is only the second time I've been on it. The first time, I never finished it because it was to the point if I even opened my mouth, I would throw up! This time around (I'm only on day 2), I've completely lost my appetite. The very first pill I took, I got very light-headed - almost high - and I haven't eaten in 2 days, but I'm sitting on the toilet for half an hour. The itchy/irritation almost seems to be getting worse (does it get worse before it can get better?), and I've got these awkward tingly feelings."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "Just completely awful. Flu-like symptoms. Chills, shakes, aches, vomiting, nausea. Couldn't sleep, had bad dreams. Total loss of appetite. Swollen tongue. Both diarrhea and constipation. Confusion, violent mood swings. Symptoms started on the 4th day of my 7-day prescription. Dr. told me to stop taking them. Still have the infection too, and I took 6 days of the prescription. Would recommend to ask for the gel, these pills are a nightmare. Good luck!"

For Pseudomembranous Colitis "Was having very mild colitis symptoms and was prescribed for 12 days. Overall made me severely nauseous in the last three days, killed my appetite to the point I lost 5 pounds, was told the only other medication I could take was 1000 dollars. Probably going to lose my job because the nausea is so bad I can’t get out of bed. Spent most of yesterday throwing up, so I couldn’t hold down my dosage. I feel very cloudy-headed, and it’s so intense I am not able to take my other daily medications that I need to stay emotionally regular. Honestly, my diarrhea got worse after taking it, becoming an everyday occurrence while on the medicine. I have been prescribed two additional medications just because of the side effects. Safe to say I’m going to start telling doctors I’m allergic to this medicine because it is affecting my life in so many ways that I just cannot condone."
