For Bacterial Infection "I have been feeling weird for a few days and did not know that it might be because of taking metronidazole. It is good to know that I am not the only one feeling such symptoms. My body aches, heart palpitation, numbness in my face and hands, extreme fatigue, loss of appetite. I was prescribed for 14 days, and I still have five more days. Definitely feeling better in terms of my infection, but having these symptoms is overwhelming."

For Giardiasis "Just finished my treatment of Flagyl, and it was a roller coaster. It began when I contracted giardiasis from a lake. The virus itself lasted about 2 and 1/2 weeks. I then stopped eating due to my stomach shrinking from all the food posing from giardiasis. I started the medication and was able to eat more and more each day. The side effects are pretty bad, sadly, but if you're looking to get better, then it is worth it 100%. I had an upset stomach 24/7, metallic taste in my mouth, constipation, diarrhea, and complete loss of appetite. This drug is intended to kill everything in your system, and I will not be around people for another 3 days. The drug did work, and that is what its purpose was. If anyone gets this disease."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I was diagnosed with BV. I am on my 3rd day of taking metronidazole. I have no improvements whatsoever, it seems like it's getting even worse. But I got side effects from this antibiotic within hours after taking the first pill: cramping, nausea. I lost my appetite on the second day, feeling really depressed at this point. My throat feels sore, my eyes feel dry, I feel fatigue but can't sleep because of itching, burning, and abdominal pain. When are you supposed to see the improvements from this medicine? My doctor told me to give it another day, but I am feeling hopeless."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "The side effects from this drug are awful. It makes me feel sick to my stomach, I have constant headaches, a loss of appetite, a metallic taste in my mouth (the medicine itself tastes disgusting and is chalky), makes my pee very dark, almost a brown color, and makes me feel very weak and weird. However, despite all of the harsh side effects, this drug does work. This is my third time getting BV, and each time this drug has made it go away after 3-4 days. This drug sucks, but I would rather deal with the side effects than a smelly/icky vagina."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I took metronidazole 500 mg for seven days, two times a day for BV. The first four days, I had extreme fatigue (had no energy to do anything), night sweats, no appetite, nausea, extremely thirsty (chugged a water bottle every now and then), stomach pain (I thought my intestines ruptured), metallic mouth taste (chewed gum a lot because of this). Overall, eating a meal before taking this helped, and then eating a snack after (to get rid of the taste). The side effects were terrible, but I'm happy about the results (smell and discharge disappeared!)."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I have been on Metronidazole 500 mg, 2x a day for 5 days, and every day I have had an insanely painful headache, lethargy, hard time concentrating, and lack of appetite. My doctor did say that headaches are common, and there is a cream form, but I have decided to just fight through the side effects of the pill. My bacterial infection did clear up, and I saw signs of it clearing up within a day. It does help to take the pill on a full stomach and drink a lot of water!"

For Bacterial Infection "I'm a 40 y/o and have been a pharmacy technician for 16 years. I have taken metronidazole 500 mg twice a day x 7 to 14 days at least 20 times with absolutely no issues. I switched to Cleocin for BV a few years ago, knowing you can't drink alcohol with Flagyl. I started taking Flagyl 500 mg twice a day x 7 days this week. This medication definitely has been reformulated! I have been taking it with food and I feel a little icky, I used to take it on an empty stomach. Every day, I have the metallic aftertaste, and it's awful, which lasts for about 1 hour afterwards. Today, I took my AM dose on an empty stomach, worst mistake! I have a splitting headache, stomach bloating/pain, no appetite, constipation, and fatigue, so horrible. I am not sure if it's this specific brand, mine is Unichem, but there are a lot of negative reviews. This antibiotic is serious with its side effects, but it's effective for infection."

For Bacterial Infection "Made it to day 8 of 10 on metronidazole. Was taking 3 times a day. The side effects are brutal. Stomach cramps, back pain, loss of appetite, dark urine, depression, terrible sleep. At times, felt like it was strangling my brain. Stomach constantly growling. Kicked my health anxiety up to 10. I can't wait for this to leave my system."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I was given this antibiotic for BV, 500 mg, 2x a day for 7 days. Swallowing the pill and the aftertaste might be the worst part. No other side effects than loss of appetite and bad gas - like terrible. I’m on day 4, and the odor has gone away, and discharge is gone."

Metronidazole for Bacterial Infection "I was prescribed Flagyl 500 mg twice a day for 10 days for BV. My only real symptom of BV was bleeding/unusual discharge between periods. I happened to start my period the day I started taking this medication, so I can’t say if it actually worked or not. I decided after day 5 to stop treatment, as a standard prescription is anywhere from 3-10 days. Side effects: no appetite. I lost some weight with this medication and had to force myself to eat something before taking it to avoid an upset stomach. Dark urine. I drink around 50 oz (almost 1.5 liters) of water a day, so this was so odd to see, but I knew it was from the meds. Dizziness, headache, and fatigue. Not consistently but randomly on different days of usage. Fatigue and dizziness on day 4. Dizziness and headache on day 5. Can’t knock it, but I can’t say yet if it actually worked or not."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "It's my third time using the metrogel for 5 days, and I always get a metallic taste as the only side effect, but this third time I had little to no appetite, felt dizzy, and my face was itchy. But this medicine works fast, the smell and discharge are gone on the second day."

For Clostridioides difficile Infection "I was diagnosed with C. diff December 29th after taking amoxicillin clavulanate. I was given Flagyl 500 mg 3 times a day for 14 days. I am 8 days in and feel awful. Nauseous, loss of appetite, light-headed at times, slight headache, fatigue, but restless, no energy. Mostly nauseous in the mornings. Ended up in the hospital January 3rd and got IV fluids as I was dehydrated. Praying for a fast recovery for everyone with this. Drinking a lot of water right before and after taking the medication helps."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "This medicine has the worst side effects. If ever needing treatment again, the gel will be the only option. No matter if you eat with, before, or after taking medication, it makes you feel absolutely horrible. I also believe it overrides your birth control if you're on it, cycle came early. Nauseous daily, tired daily, appetite loss for sure, indescribable taste left in mouth, just all around a horrible experience. 7 days of pure suffering."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "My experience has been pretty neutral compared to many of the other reviews I've read. I was prescribed 500 mg 2x a day for 7 days for BV. Just took my last dose. The pill tastes awful and chalky, and I've had a bad taste in my mouth all week. I've had a pretty constant, yet minor headache, and a slight loss of appetite. Definitely glad it's over, but I had a much better reaction to it than most people. As for the BV, I was on my period this week, so it's been hard to gauge. I know the odor is gone, but I'm still unsure about the amount of discharge. My follow-up appointment is next week, so hopefully, it's done with (for now)."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "After having sex with a new uncircumcised partner, I noticed the next day I had smelly urine, different-smelling discharge (not fishy, though), and tenderness in the vulva region. Doc said I had a mild case of BV. I opted to treat it with Flagyl vaginal gel, but that didn't work, and I was still symptomatic after the 5-day course. Went back for a culture, and doc said not only did I still have BV, but I also had a yeast infection. Took one Diflucan for the yeast and then started Flagyl again, but this time in pill form, not the vaginal gel. No nausea, but weirdly the pills make me feel very lethargic and a little spaced out. Also, I have a decreased appetite."

For Bacterial Infection "This is the only medicine that treats my BV. I wish it were a shot or IV, though, because the side effects are terrible. No matter how I try to mask the taste, it still ends up on my tongue. On top of that, the medication makes me feel like I have the flu-severe nausea, vomiting, weakness, and loss of appetite. I should finish the course but don't think that I can swallow another pill if I tried."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "Unfortunately, I have a negative experience taking these right now. I hadn’t read any reviews beforehand but wish I had. The first day of starting treatment, I felt alright, although after the 4th pill, a bad headache set in. The next day, I was hit with nausea and felt hot and sweaty all day, which didn’t ease up much unless I was sitting completely still doing nothing. Even then, my heart would start racing, and it’s been difficult to do anything. I ended up taking 2 days off because of how bad I was feeling, my appetite disappeared, and I’ve had to force myself to eat just so I wouldn’t take the pills on an empty stomach, although I realized it didn’t make much of a difference. I have about 2 days left but won’t be continuing as I can’t take more time off work and will be asking the doctor for a different treatment."

For Dental Abscess "I was taking this along with amoxicillin for a dental infection. The side effects were extreme. Nausea and vomiting (bile when no food), severe headache, chills and sweats alternating, diarrhea, no appetite, could not hold food down, even water, fatigue. Not sure why I had to take 2 antibiotics, but will never take this again."

For Clostridioides difficile Infection "This is the absolute WORST antibiotic I have ever taken in my life. I have been to the ER 3 times with horrible stomach spasms, nausea, and foggy brain, and no doctor could figure out what was wrong. The latest visit was today. I have finally decided to do my own research and ended up here. *The metallic taste lasts all day long and is disgusting. *After about an hour of taking it, it's like a wave hits me, and I become dizzy, disoriented, and foggy. *I have been so tired, barely able to keep focused at work. *No appetite and no thirst. *Dark urine. *Vomiting. I have lost 8 lbs on this medication, and I am cutting it short today. I wouldn't recommend this to my worst enemy."

For Bacterial Infection "I had BV last weekend and couldn't get an appointment with my doctor until the following Tuesday, but I started my period a week early, the morning of my appointment. So instead of coming in, my doctor just prescribed me the pill form and told me to take it twice a day for 7 days. Well, today I'm on day 5. This week has been HORRIBLE!!!! While taking these pills, I've experienced extreme nausea daily, lack of appetite, the smell of food makes me gag, so as of now, I can only eat apple sauce, a few crackers, drink ginger ale or Gatorade, heartburn, headaches, rapid heartbeat, black stools, and I already have minor anxiety from time to time, but this medication has amplified my anxiety from 1 - 10 to 20! I've also experienced fever as well. I didn't realize this was all from the medication until I started reading reviews and realized other people shared these experiences. I PRAY I never have to take this again. Pure torture!"

For Pelvic Inflammatory Disease "I was prescribed this medication for pelvic inflammatory disease that I got with chlamydia from my cheating ex. I was told to take 2 x 500 mg tablets at separate intervals along with doxycycline. The first few days made me so dizzy I couldn't drive, so I returned to the clinic and was told to take them both before bed. I have been taking them for 9 days now, the first 8 were okay, but today I cannot even leave my bed. Everything is spinning, I cannot. I have also experienced a loss in appetite and shall be discontinuing the use."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I have taken this medication once before years ago, and it was fine. Taking it again now, I literally feel like death. It's horrible. I called in sick to work today and most likely will again tomorrow. The first 2 days were fine, but after that, it's been unbearable. I have diarrhea constantly, and it's straight liquid. I puked this morning and have been nauseous all day/night, loss of appetite, and unbearable stomach pain. I came on this website to see other people's experiences as I was about to go to the emergency because this is just ridiculous. Now I know my symptoms are the same as others, so I'll just hold off and finish my medication. 3 days to go for me, and I can't wait to get off the medication. I hope I never have to take this again. Although the discharge and odor are gone, so I know it's doing its work, but we just have to suffer through it to get better, I guess. Stay strong, ladies, we can do this."

For Dental Abscess "I’ve been taking metronidazole for 2 days, and so far no dramatic side effects, but definitely have a metallic taste in my mouth and experienced blurred vision temporarily. But that could have been from a migraine, as I do suffer from ‘silent’ migraines, as they are known. Dental infection seems improved, no stomach issues, but I have lost my appetite a bit, which is perhaps why that’s the case."

For Dental Abscess "This is my 5th time this year on metronidazole for an impacted wisdom tooth that can't be removed but keeps developing an abscess. It usually follows a failed course of amoxicillin, and although it always clears up the infection, the side effects are pretty awful. I feel like I've had the flu for the first few days (fever, fatigue, unable to sleep, stomach cramps, and loss of appetite), which usually means I have to miss work, and then a really sickly stomach for the last three. It also takes me a few days after finishing the course for my energy levels and stomach to get back to normal. So the drug works, but the side effects are worse than my actual ailment."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I had no symptoms of BV but was diagnosed after a pap and was given the pill for 2 pills a day for 7 days. The side effects have been absolutely awful. I went home from work on day two thinking I had the stomach flu (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, sweating). I finally realized it was the pills. I've also experienced trembling hands, night sweats, dry mouth, fatigue, loss of appetite (which is weird because I'm PMSing and usually starving at this time!), mood swings, and increased anxiety. I don't find the taste of the actual pill to be as unbearable as everyone says, but it does leave that metallic taste in my mouth. I'm on day 4 and don't even know if I want to take the pill before work this morning!"
