For Bacterial Vaginosis "Had to take this for a week straight, 2x a day. Makes your body super tired, diarrhea, loss of appetite, slightly irritable, dry mouth, upset stomach (cramps), also back and thigh pain. All in all, it seems to be working on my lady parts. Good luck to anyone else!"

For Bacterial Infection "Yes, I'd like to point out it appears to be helping my mouth situation, but it's definitely not helping the rest of my body. Since taking this medication prescribed by my dentist due to having an infection in my mouth, I have suffered the following: feeling sick, diarrhea, headache, metallic taste in my mouth, palpitations, ache all over, flu-like symptoms, confusion, lack of concentration, very anxious, thirsty. I generally feel like poo. I can't wait to finish this course. I feel like death."

For Bacterial Infection "So, I was put on metronidazole by my gastroenterologist because of 'gut issues.' 250 mg 3x/day for 10 days. The first two-ish days, I had diarrhea, dry mouth, and the 'metallic' taste many people mention. My gut symptoms seemed to worsen, but after a few days, this medication seemed to get everything under control. All bad side effects subsided, and I felt totally fine. I absolutely did NOT drink alcohol while taking this (and my doctor did make it very clear not to). When you read the potentially terrible (and dangerous) side effects from mixing this medication and booze, it's just not worth it. The worst thing about this medication is the taste - terribly bitter, so swallow quickly! All in all, don't fear this medication too much."

For Bacterial Infection "In the past, I've endured chemotherapy and radiation, so I thought I was pretty tough, however, this medication has worse side effects with each passing day. I'm on day 6 of 7 and just can't take any more. I was prescribed it for what seemed to be a UTI, but now I have bad headaches, dark urine, stomach cramps and loose stools, dizziness, a very sore vaginal area inside and out, a grotty taste in my mouth, sweating, palpitations, and constant nausea. Day 7 can go straight down the toilet as far as I'm concerned."

For Dental Abscess "I was prescribed metronidazole for my infected wisdom tooth, it's 3 tablets a day for a course of 5 days. I started to take it on my second day, I felt so weak and felt I just wanted to lay down, didn't affect my appetite I was taking it with food. On my 3rd day, my wisdom tooth pain has gone, but in the evening I started to feel really dizzy, can't concentrate on conversation, I sometimes could not recall what I just said, banging headache, diarrhea, tight chest, nausea. Although I felt a little better in that morning, so I drove to my mother-in-law's, who lives 5 mins drive away, I started to feel dizzy I nearly crashed into a parked car, I could not judge the width of the road. I managed to get back home. I called 111 for advice that evening, I was told to stop taking this medicine immediately and keep hydrated to clear it out of the system. On the 4th day, I'm feeling still weak and dizzy with a headache. I'm allergic to penicillin."

For Bacterial Infection "Been prescribed this antibiotic, metronidazole 400 mg, for my tooth infection, swollen gum around the crown. First day was okay, but at night I couldn't sleep well, around 5 in the morning, headache too strong. Same the next day and the day after, I felt bad, even very bad. I see clients at work, which is hard because I could not see clearly, dizzy, concentration lost, feel sick, nausea, stomach pain, headache. It's an awful feeling, you feel like you're going to die. My dentist didn't tell me about side effects, just asked me if I have an allergy. The 6 days after, bad diarrhea was really hard on me, I can't go outside, plus drowsiness. This medication has been so hard on my body. It has serious side effects, nearly everyone that has reviewed it. Wouldn't take it again."

For Clostridioides difficile Infection "I caught C. diff after having two surgeries in 2 days and a hospital stay. I was in so much pain from the C. diff, nausea, diarrhea, cramping, sharp stabbing pains, and no appetite. I did one round of meds 3 times a day for 14 days. The symptoms only subsided a little, got tested again, and still had high toxin levels. So they gave me another round, symptoms again got a little better. Got tested again and still had the toxins, so yet another round. To this day, my insides are still haywire, but maybe have to do with the gallbladder removal as well. My surgeon explained C. diff can be a hard bugger to eliminate sometimes. So I feel like the medicine did its job, it won the war, just took a few battles to get there."

For Bacterial Infection "I was given 56 pills to take every 6 hours for 14 days (in addition to Clindamycin) for severe tonsillitis. I'm a third-year medical student who will never take for granted prescribing this medicine again. I'm not sure if it works (this is day 3, and my tonsil is still huge, pus-filled, and incredibly painful), but I feel like I'm experiencing every side effect except diarrhea. I'm absolutely hating how I feel right now and just wanted to sound off - to try and release some of this frustration."

For Bacterial Infection "I made the mistake of not reading about the side effects before taking this medication. I took my first pill at night and was up all night with stomach cramps and diarrhea. It was so bad I thought I had food poisoning. By the second day, I had no appetite, and the cramping and bloating in my stomach were unbelievable. It was at this time that I started reading the side effects and realized this was indeed a bad side effect. I too was so happy when my last day arrived to take my last pill. And although I also experienced an awful taste in my mouth after taking this pill, that was the least of my complaints as all the other side effects were worse. Good luck taking this medication."

For Bacterial Infection "I went to the doctor, as for 2 months I was experiencing diarrhea and mushy stools up to 5 times in 2 hours. I had lower left abdominal pain near the belly button, severe bloating, gas, belching, and stomach burning, no appetite, body aches, but no fever. The doctor never ran tests except for H. pylori. No other testing. I got prescribed Ciprofloxacin 500 mg every 12 hours and Metronidazole 500 mg every 8 hours, both for 10 days. I'm on day 5, and the side effects have definitely made me feel worse: metallic taste, burning stomach, still mushy stools, dizzy, confused, slurred speech, fatigue, and no energy. I have begun to see a thin white thread-like substance in my stool. Abdominal pain has subsided. I have no diagnosis, which is somewhat unsettling to me based on these harsh meds. I've also noticed that stools now have no odor at all. I have found that a banana and half a glass of milk help with the Metronidazole, but I cannot wait to be done with this medication."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "Due to itching, burning, and discharge, I was told I had a bacterial infection. I am on 500 MG metronidazole twice a day for 7 days. The first few days of taking the pill, I was sick and dizzy. On the third day, I avoided taking the pill so close to eating. That helped. I still get slightly dizzy around pill time. I drink great-tasting juice so I don't need to taste the pill. I feel that it's improving my infection. I have two days left. The only side effect is slight diarrhea."

For Diverticulitis "I was diagnosed with diverticulitis. Currently on my 5th day. The positive side is I am actually feeling better, far better, but side effects are hitting hard: diarrhea, heartburn, upset stomach, zero appetite, and the urge to vomit. There are still a few days to go. I will keep going since it's for my good."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "This is the worst pill ever!! I've had to take it 3 times a day for 7 days, and I feel so horrible. I diarrhea out EVERY single thing I eat, even if I eat a grape. On the 5th and 6th day, I started experiencing really horrible abdominal cramps. It made me feel like my bladder was full, but nothing would come out. I've just been drinking lots of water to help me urinate so the urge wouldn't be so intense. This is my 6th day, and even though I only have a day left, this pain is horrible. The smell of my vaginal area is disgusting, way worse than before I started taking the meds. I don't wish this bad feeling on anyone. Has anyone else experienced this?"

Metronidazole for Diverticulitis "I was prescribed this for a diverticulitis flare-up. After the second day, all hell broke loose. Felt faint and sick with diarrhea and vomiting. Couldn't eat anything and ended up in the ER. Was told to stop taking it and see my gastroenterologist. It takes 48 hours to get out of your system, and I can barely move off the couch without passing out. Run far away if prescribed this. And research the permanent damage it can cause. Scary."

For Giardiasis "Just finished my treatment of Flagyl, and it was a roller coaster. It began when I contracted giardiasis from a lake. The virus itself lasted about 2 and 1/2 weeks. I then stopped eating due to my stomach shrinking from all the food posing from giardiasis. I started the medication and was able to eat more and more each day. The side effects are pretty bad, sadly, but if you're looking to get better, then it is worth it 100%. I had an upset stomach 24/7, metallic taste in my mouth, constipation, diarrhea, and complete loss of appetite. This drug is intended to kill everything in your system, and I will not be around people for another 3 days. The drug did work, and that is what its purpose was. If anyone gets this disease."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I was just prescribed this medication because I have an issue with recurring BV. My doctor told me there is no cure for it and about 70% of women are diagnosed with it. I am on day 4, and I can't take it anymore. I was not experiencing any symptoms until this morning when I was getting ready for work. I was extremely nauseous but still tried to push through. I eat before I take any medication. I also have been drinking nothing but water. As I was working, I started experiencing chills and started profusely sweating. I went to the bathroom, and my vision got fuzzy. My chest was tightening, and I could not breathe. I was experiencing a lot of anxiety and had an anxiety attack. My stools have been loose, and I stopped wanting to eat :("

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I had no symptoms of BV but was diagnosed after a pap and was given the pill for 2 pills a day for 7 days. The side effects have been absolutely awful. I went home from work on day two thinking I had the stomach flu (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, sweating). I finally realized it was the pills. I've also experienced trembling hands, night sweats, dry mouth, fatigue, loss of appetite (which is weird because I'm PMSing and usually starving at this time!), mood swings, and increased anxiety. I don't find the taste of the actual pill to be as unbearable as everyone says, but it does leave that metallic taste in my mouth. I'm on day 4 and don't even know if I want to take the pill before work this morning!"

For Bacterial Vaginosis "Wow! This medicine is HORRRRRRIBLE. I’ve had so many side effects taking this for 7 days: diarrhea, dizziness, feeling weak, abdominal pain. I’ve been off for 3 days now, and my poop isn’t back to normal. I have this discharge from hell. I visited my primary care provider today, and she told me to wait it out to get back to normal. This is after I ran to the ER and told them the same thing. Nobody can help me at this point. I’ll NEVER take this medicine again in my life. I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy. Fingers crossed I get better soon. *sigh*"

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I was given 500 mg four times a day for H. pylori. The taste was horrible, and by day 5, I started to vomit. I called my doctor, who refused to return my call. By day 6, I started having stools like water. I stopped the drug on my own. I'll be careful what I take next time."

Metronidazole for Bacterial Infection "My side effects for Flagyl were nausea, diarrhea, and headache throughout the week of me taking this twice a day for bacterial vaginitis. Nasty taste in my mouth and urine smells awful. Irritation from BV has subsided but is still present. Swollen feet and hands, along with chills. Terrible feeling!"

Metronidazole for Bacterial Infection "For the last few years, I have had recurrences, sometimes as often as once a week of vomiting and diarrhea. It seemed to be traced to exhaustion and fatty foods. In the meantime, my wife contacted C. difficile in the hospital. Along the way, I may have contracted C. difficile too. In any event, my doctor prescribed Flagyl, which I took four times a day for 10 days. This cleared everything up, but the problem kept occurring. For the last 45 days, I have been taking 2, 250 mg capsules once a day. Recently, I have cut down to one. Although I have had occasional diarrhea, there has been no vomiting or nausea."

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I've just finished these and felt a bit strange and dizzy. Was glad the 7 days were over! However, 3 days now since I finished them, and today I am feeling awful, terrible diarrhea and sickness, so it doesn't necessarily finish when you stop then. You still shouldn't drink alcohol for at least 2 days after stopping them!"

For Bacterial Infection "I recently got diagnosed with BV, and the medicine was awful. I usually get rid of infections naturally, but this time I tried the medicine. The medicine made me very nauseous, and I had horrible diarrhea. Even after taking the medicine, I still have diarrhea, and I can still taste the medicine in my mouth. I stopped taking the medicine because of the side effects. Next time, I will be trying the gel. Thanks for listening. I hope someone with my experience :) ...."

For Diverticulitis "This medicine has made me feel almost as bad, possibly worse, than the diverticulitis was. As everyone has said, the taste is horrid. It never leaves your mouth, no matter what food is eaten. I can't sleep at all and am having diarrhea. I have 5 more days to go on a 10-day course of the medicine. I'm hoping I have the fortitude to follow through with the whole course!"
