Metronidazole for Bacterial Infection "I have experience with a lot of other antibiotics, but this one has been by far the worst. The taste is so bad I threw up one of my doses, and the taste doesn’t wash away with water, it lingers. It helped with the infection, but it also wiped out all the good bacteria in my gut. This isn’t unheard of from antibiotics, so I’d supplement with probiotics as well. Food doesn’t sit in my body for longer than 10 minutes, and the lack of food is giving me bad headaches, and my body is so tired."

Metronidazole for Diverticulitis "This is my second bout of diverticulitis, the first one was 4 years ago. The first time, I was given Flagyl and Cipro, and I thought the medicine was making me feel almost worse than the diverticulitis itself (nausea, general feeling of being ill). Though I was happy to be clearing any potential infection, I could not wait to be done with the medications. The second time with diverticulitis, the pain was significantly worse, but I also recognized what it was and went to the ER sooner and had it confirmed. Oddly enough, my second time with these medications, and I'm not experiencing any of the same side effects. The aftertaste is bad, but that's not really a big deal. I do have some very mild fogginess, but hey, nothing worse than an antihistamine. It's making me think that the first time around, the nausea/malaise was from the infection itself, not the medications."

For Dental Abscess "I just started taking this pill 2 days ago, so I can't really say if it helped me or not yet, but the taste is so awful. Just thinking about it makes my eyes water, and I get extremely thirsty but can't drink anything because it just tastes like the pill. I have to take 4 pills a day for 10 days. It's horrible."

Metronidazole for Trichomoniasis "This medicine works, but the taste is so bad. The second day of being on it, I started throwing up. The sickness went away, but I'm still getting major headaches, and I feel exhausted. I was prescribed 30 of them for a colon infection due to not being able to go to the bathroom, which caused the infection to spread into my stomach."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "My experience has been pretty neutral compared to many of the other reviews I've read. I was prescribed 500 mg 2x a day for 7 days for BV. Just took my last dose. The pill tastes awful and chalky, and I've had a bad taste in my mouth all week. I've had a pretty constant, yet minor headache, and a slight loss of appetite. Definitely glad it's over, but I had a much better reaction to it than most people. As for the BV, I was on my period this week, so it's been hard to gauge. I know the odor is gone, but I'm still unsure about the amount of discharge. My follow-up appointment is next week, so hopefully, it's done with (for now)."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I developed BV from taking antibiotics for a skin infection. I got a prescription for metronidazole 500 mg, two a day for 7 days. The pill did what it was supposed to do to clear up things, but the taste is awful. The trick is to get a piece of bread and wrap it around the pill. It takes away the taste. Worked for me, and I don't have BV anymore. THANK GOODNESS!!!"

For Bacterial Vaginosis "Prescribed this for BV. 500 mg, 1 pill 2x a day for 7 days. This medicine does have an awful taste to it, but it works. I saw improvement the 2nd day I was on it. I try to take it with some type of juice, and it's not that bad."

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "Been taking metronidazole for H. pylori, along with clarithromycin, amoxicillin, and pantoprazole. It is awful, the horrible taste remains in my mouth all day and night. Extreme tiredness and pain between my shoulder blades. I am on day 9 of 14 and don't feel like I can take it anymore. Will never do this again."

For Bacterial Infection "I feel like garbage! So nauseous. I cannot tolerate the feeling. I keep trying to eat to block the feeling of the pill coming back from my stomach up my throat whole. Not to mention the bad taste that comes with that feeling - even more sickening. This is the worst feeling ever. I wish I had read the reviews before, although the medication does work. Using to treat BV."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "So after several failed attempts over 2 months to heal my BV naturally, I broke down and started the Flagyl. 1st pill, loud ringing in ear. Interesting. Slight queasy feeling, rarely. 3rd day in, cannot sleep! I would say it does cause some insomnia. Weird taste in mouth. Weird body odor. Yes, it is coming out of my pores. But this is nothing too major. I can deal. Almost RIGHT AWAY, 1 day in, I noticed an improvement in symptoms. Was having burning and inflammation in the vagina, weird smell, and a weird discharge, thin and grayish. These symptoms improved fast after taking the medicine. I do have slight headaches at times. Dark urine. Drinking water! Taking yogurt, ginger tea, yeast remedy, and probiotics. I hope I can finish the rest."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I have had this since I was 17 years old, and I am now 34. I've had it basically every day. I take my medicine, it goes away, and it comes right back. The doctor told me that there is absolutely nothing he can give me to get it to clear up completely. I found that taking the medicine with milk prevents that nasty taste in your mouth. It coats your mouth and then also coats your stomach, so it helps with the nausea. This is probably my 30th or 40th time taking this medicine, and it seems to not be working at all this round. I might have a yeast infection, I don't know? But let me tell you, ladies, I have suffered with this for more than half my life. I get it with sex, protected and unprotected, and even if he pulls out. I hope you girls can find something."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "This medicine has surely taught me how to take a pill without letting it touch my mouth. However, I still cannot escape the awful taste in my mouth all the time, kind of metallic like. I've also found it's a must to eat when taking medicine, when I don't eat, it comes right back, and I have to throw up. With food, it feels like I'm on a laxative, as often as I have to poop, not diarrhea though, luckily. Also, I'm pretty nauseous 70% of the day while on this pill. I said all of that to say taking this medicine has been the worst experience I've had with an antibiotic. On the flip side, I'm on day three and no longer have symptoms of BV. This is my second time taking this year, each time 500 mg 2x for 7 days."

For Trichomoniasis "Well, I'm still taking medication since I found out on Jan 11 about the trichomoniasis. It is making me feel rubbish, but I haven't thrown up like I see a lot of people post. It does taste nasty, so it leaves a bad taste in my mouth and dark urine. The smell and itch went away, I'm still discharging a little. Hope I'm cured soon, 500 mg twice a day for a week."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I've been taking this medicine for three days, one pill twice a day. I've noticed mild stomach aches, mild headaches, lethargy, and an awful taste in my mouth while and shortly after ingesting the pill. My infection has already begun clearing up and is hardly noticeable, aside from occasional discomfort. I wouldn't necessarily suggest this medicine if there were another available, but it does its job, albeit with side effects."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "The medicine works. But of course, the aftertaste is the worst. It leaves a horrible taste on your tongue that alters the taste of everything you eat. I also felt sick at times: nausea and stomach ache. Though it was because I was consuming it with my iron pills, even when I stopped that for a while, it still remained. But overall, it works. Just have to get over the aftertaste and nausea. And water doesn't necessarily help."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I had BV 3 months ago, and I took metronidazole 500 mg two times a day for 7 days, and it really wasn't that bad. It tasted bad with just water, so I started taking it with juice, and I tasted nothing. Felt slightly sick sometimes, but nothing too bad. My BV was completely gone in 2-3 days, but now it's back, and I'm back on it again. There's 6 types of vaginitis. Metronidazole only cures 4, so I got to wait a week for all tests to come back to determine which one it is and probably be put back on a different antibiotic. So for y'all whose BV keeps coming back, it might not be that it keeps coming back, it's just you've never really gotten rid of it. Run that by your doctor if they keep giving you the same medicine for your BV."

For Trichomoniasis "This is my second day on the antibiotic. I was given four 500 mg of this medication. The smell has gone away. I still have minor itching. I've read all of these comments, and I'm worried this treatment will not work because of all the people that have said it didn't for them. I know I've had this infection for at least ten months with no noticeable symptoms until I had my daughter a month and a half ago. The odor still remained. I went in for my 6-week check-up and tested positive for trich. And they prescribed me this. My side effects were minor. I did fall asleep not long after taking them. I woke up two hours later with a horrible headache that lasted hours and severe thirst. When I went back to sleep, I woke up with right side stomach pain. The pills have an awful taste, but I took a vitamin C drop and that got the taste somewhat gone. I can't really say for sure if this pill works... all I know is I don't smell like fish anymore."

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I took Flagyl 400 x 2 for 7 days, and I will outline what I experienced. 1 - They made me feel very sick all day, every day. 2 - I was never off the toilet. 3 - I felt very low in mood, agitated, and argumentative. 4 - Fatigued, never felt so tired. 5 - My legs ached from groin to my knees. 6 - My lymph nodes in my groin and neck swelled up. 7 - The skin on my hands peeled. 8 - I lost around 4 - 6 kilos. 9 - The taste in my mouth was disgusting. 10 - I couldn't sleep. 11 - I felt unsafe driving as I was so tired and dizzy. Finished these a few days ago, and I called my GP to report to check if these side effects were normal... simply put, they said yes. Should clear up in 5 - 7 days!! Today, my legs still ache, I am exhausted with no energy to do anything. My mood is improving, and I'm no longer agitated. My glands are sore in my groin and neck. Hope these wear off soon!!! Good luck taking these, and hopefully, if you do, you'll be feeling better soon."

For Trichomoniasis "I'm still not finished taking the antibiotic, but all my symptoms of the infection were gone within 48 hrs. I'm hoping that when it's gone, the infection doesn't return. The main reason for my response is the taste of the drug. YUCK! I try to find things with strong flavors to disguise the taste, but nothing seems to work. The drug works, but the taste doesn't."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I was prescribed metronidazole, two pills a day for 7 days. And so far it has cured my bacterial infection. And I haven't had any side effects, and hopefully I won't. I have three days left of taking this medication. But I am afraid that I screwed up, I forgot to take my two pills one day, and I'm hoping that this doesn't affect it clearing up the infection for good. But overall I am really happy about this medication, except for the horrible taste."

For Trichomoniasis "As most of these other people who have posted stated, it's no secret how bad this medicine tastes. Although I can attest to a few of the symptoms after taking it, they haven't been so severe that they affected my appetite or sleep pattern. I've come very close to wanting to throw up because of gagging on the pills. I've taken them most effectively without the nasty taste by saturating them in oil (vegetable, olive, etc.). They go down effortlessly and with no taste. I don't have time for all of the other disguises for this medicine! Lol I think many of you will maybe want to thank me later after this suggestion. Good luck!"

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I was taking this medication twice a day for seven days, and although it cleared up the BV, it made me very sick. I was nauseous, had headaches, and all around felt like crap to the point I wanted to stop taking it. As for a bad taste, it wasn't strong but stayed in my mouth all day, and I think it contributed to my sick feeling."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "Just a piece of advice that I found to be the BEST solution to that nasty metallic taste it has: take it with orange juice. It is the only thing that 100% masks that awful taste. Don't let it touch your tongue. I tilt my head back, fill my mouth with OJ, drop the pill, and swallow, and I never taste it. Orange juice is a godsend for this medicine. I can't handle the taste, so I refuse to take it with anything else. I mean, I'm on it now and only have 2 pills left with none and almost want to skip it."

For Diverticulitis "I've found it impossible to swallow metronidazole fast enough for it not to leave that horrible taste in my mouth. The solution I've found was to buy some empty gelatin capsules sold in many health food stores, and put metronidazole into it, and then swallow it like any other pill. Bingo! No taste — melts in your stomach, not in your mouth. I'm only on my third day with the Citro-Metron combo, so far, so good."
