For Bacterial Infection "I was prescribed a 500 mg 3x a day dosage for 10 days. I always have issues with antibiotics, but this by far is the worst side effects I've ever had! The metallic taste, diarrhea, headaches, and overall feeling are horrible. I just completed day 5, and it was so bad that I wanted to stick my fingers down my throat and force myself to throw up! I also started to develop oral thrush! The medicine does seem to be working, but I'm not taking all 10 days. I feel like I can barely make it to 7!!"

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "The side effects from Flagyl have been worse than my original symptoms of H. pylori. Explosive diarrhea, bloating, loss of appetite, urgency, and general discomfort. I have two days left of a 10-day, 3 times a day cycle. I cannot wait for it to be over. Don't take this stuff unless you have to. It has been hard."

For Diverticulitis "I took this for a diverticulitis abscess for ten days. I do not handle antibiotics well. I found with this one you definitely need to eat something with it. If I didn't, my stomach would hurt. Mild diarrhea, tolerable. Some nausea. Otherwise, no problems."

For Bacterial Infection "This medication worked wonders! I was a little skeptical about it from doing research, but with anything you Google search, if you dig around long enough, you will eventually find something scary. I have had no diarrhea while on this medication, as some of the complaints were mostly about diarrhea, nausea, headaches, and cramps. Let me tell you, drink PLENTY of water! Don't drink soda, tea, punch, etc. I mean straight-up water! I also picked up Kefir; it's a cultured low-fat milk smoothie. It will do wonders for your stomach! I also took Zantac 150 mg 30 minutes before taking the Metro pill. The only side effect I have had was a tender tongue under my chin. P.S. If your urine is dark (a common complaint by most), you need more water, people! Hope this helps you!"

For Bacterial Infection "I went on a holiday to Thailand and developed a bloated stomach with wind and later diarrhea. The doctor prescribed Flagyl to kill any bugs in the intestine. We know that in these countries it is rather easy to get a bug from foods. After many trips, I finally got a Bangkok belly. After taking 400 mg three times a day, I felt some relief the next day. Felt good. Then the next day, I woke up feeling terrible. I had sneezing, a runny nose, a feeling of tightness in the nose (harder to breathe), asthma, dry lips, rashes on the hands, body aches, lack of appetite, feeling lethargic and tired, along with wind in the stomach and slight nausea. Diarrhea was almost gone. Most side effects were happening to me on the fourth day."

For Bacterial Infection "This is the final day of my 10-day prescription of Flagyl 750 mg x3 daily for a parasite infection, and over the last nine days, this is what I have been experiencing: - Bad or metallic taste in the mouth. - Nausea. - Little fatigue. - Moody. - A few bloating periods. - 8th and 9th days frequent diarrhea. For Bacterial Infection "I was taking Flagyl two times a day for a week time period, and it was awful in terms of side effects as concerned. It started working instantly. However, I was throwing up every night I took this pill due to an upset stomach, which was aggravating because I already was not eating much to begin with, so I was dry heaving. I experienced diarrhea, shortness of breath, brief itching. The metallic taste puts a horrible taste in your mouth, so bad to the point I literally dreaded taking the pill each day. But midway through the pill, I got smart and put it on a spoonful of yogurt to mask the taste, and let me tell you, it works wonders! So if you don't eat yogurt, try a pudding or something like that, and it will be so much better. I hope that helps."

For Diverticulitis "I'm on Flagyl and cephalexin for diverticulitis. Today is day 4, and I feel lethargic. I was in the ER 2 days in a row for pain. Today, I'm feeling nauseous and getting diarrhea. I do not know if I can make it for ten days. (I am allergic to ciprofloxacin, penicillin, sulfa.) As soon as this is over, I'm going to the immunologist to test if, after 35 years, I can now tolerate some of the antibiotics I am allergic to because I have lung, urinary, and now this is the second bout of diverticulitis."

For Pelvic Inflammatory Disease "For the first couple of days, every time I took this, I was overcome with a severe migraine. After a few days, the migraines stopped, but what came next was far worse: insomnia, fever, fainting, no appetite, severe exhaustion, dizziness, and brain fog/decreased motor skills. Due to the medicine’s side effects, I was convinced my uterine infection was killing me, going septic. I couldn’t tell if I was sick from the infection or from the antibiotics - neither could the doctor. Hours after my final dose, I collapsed, BP dropped, fever and shakes set in. I spent the next 3 days in bed, unable to eat, with constant diarrhea, heart palpitations, vertigo, too nauseated to speak, unable to do anything but sleep. It has now been 4 days since I’ve been off the medication. I am still dizzy and quite weak, but I feel a little more normal. I hope the uterine infection has been properly managed. Time will tell if the side effects were worth it."

For Bacterial Infection "I've been taking this medication for 5 days now. I'm on it for 10 days, 3 times a day, and I'm being treated for C. diff. Before I started this medication, I was in severe pain, diarrhea, weight loss, constantly urinating. Now my abdominal pain is minimal, I'm holding weight. Gained a few pounds. Still having constant urination, not quite as much, and still having an upset stomach, diarrhea. Now going back to the Dr. to see if I still have C. diff."

For Bacterial Infection "First, just to comment on the medicine itself, I was taking 500 mg pills every 12 hours for 7 days. I did not get to finish. The medicine is amazing! The smell and discharge were gone within the 1st two pills. The worst part was the side effects, and this is why I didn't finish. I was constantly vomiting and could not sleep at all. Every time I tried to eat or drink anything, I threw it right up. I also experienced diarrhea, but that was not nearly as bad as the vomiting. I quit on day 4 because I couldn't bear the side effects, but the medicine itself is really a lifesaver!"

For Diverticulitis "I was prescribed this for a diverticulitis flare-up. After the second day, all hell broke loose. Felt faint and sick with diarrhea and vomiting. Couldn't eat anything and ended up in the ER. Was told to stop taking it and see my gastroenterologist. It takes 48 hours to get out of your system, and I can barely move off the couch without passing out. Run far away if prescribed this. And research the permanent damage it can cause. Scary."

For Bacterial Infection "For the last few years, I have had recurrences, sometimes as often as once a week of vomiting and diarrhea. It seemed to be traced to exhaustion and fatty foods. In the meantime, my wife contacted C. difficile in the hospital. Along the way, I may have contracted C. difficile too. In any event, my doctor prescribed Flagyl, which I took four times a day for 10 days. This cleared everything up, but the problem kept occurring. For the last 45 days, I have been taking 2, 250 mg capsules once a day. Recently, I have cut down to one. Although I have had occasional diarrhea, there has been no vomiting or nausea."

For Bacterial Infection "If you are a coffee drinker or smoker (weed), definitely try consuming less of both products during the course of Flagyl. It’s now my second time taking it, and it’s very effective for my BV. But the side effects are a downside. Eating BRAT foods (will help the diarrhea or upset stomach) and drinking lots, LOTS, of water is necessary. Also, getting lots of probiotics and electrolytes have helped me feel better. I’ve noticed that it makes the effect of caffeine and weed almost ten times stronger, and not in a good way. So be careful and watch your heartbeat/blood pressure. This worked way better for me than clindamycin. I think you do feel off, and it’s noticeable, but it’s better than the symptomatic BV I’ve been having."

For Bacterial Infection "Flagyl also made my life miserable. On the 4th day, I had extreme nausea, and even though I had diarrhea from the bacterial infection thanks to Flagyl, the amount of diarrhea became even worse. I also had dryness in my mouth (not sure there was any metallic taste though). Yesterday was the end of my 7th day, and my doctor thankfully said that I can stop taking it. I was so relieved until I figured out that even though I did not take any Flagyl on my first day, I had a blurry-like vision following that extreme tingling in my teeth, hands, and feet. I assume it was a severe panic attack. My heartbeat was super high, I was in full panic mode, and felt so helpless. I hope all of the side effects go away soon. I assume Flagyl cured my bacterial infection, but there were way too many side effects. My first and very last time using this antibiotic…"

For Bacterial Infection "I had constant nausea and mild diarrhea on it until I eliminated dairy products. Took more than 24 hours after the last serving, but both the nausea and the diarrhea went away. I've also experienced fatigue, vertigo, and a lot of trouble concentrating. Ugh. For Bacterial Infection "The worst nightmare of my life after taking Flagyl. My appendix had ruptured, after surgery, they gave me Flagyl intravenously, and my nightmares began. Fever, chills, nausea/vomiting, high blood pressure, explosive diarrhea every thirty minutes, my stomach was so extended and tight it looked like I was 9 months pregnant, anxiety, tingling in hands. After four days of absolute terror in the hospital and no one would believe me, I demanded to be taken off of Flagyl. They had me on blood pressure medicine, anti-anxiety meds, anti-nausea, pain relievers, and did an X-ray, showed it to me, my bowels were swollen to the size of baseballs in some places. They were going to operate on me again, and I said NO. As soon as I told them to take me off of Flagyl, in 12 hours my stomach started to reduce in size, my diarrhea was only every four hours instead of every 30 min. My heart rate went down, and I was able to leave the hospital the next day. I am lucky to be alive. I would give a '0'."

For Bacterial Infection "I normally don’t have side effects to medications, but when I was placed on Flagyl (500 mg x 2 per day) to treat a diverticulitis flare, I couldn’t go beyond three days. I felt like I had a lobotomy and had muscle cramps, diarrhea, nausea, white tongue, and dizzy. I felt worse than I did when I went to the ER in the first place. I was really surprised by how hard it hit, despite taking Florastor probiotics and drinking Kefir with each dose. I asked to be placed on a different antibiotic and was given Augmentin instead. For Bacterial Infection "I was given this medicine (500 mg Flagyl) from an urgent care doctor for bacterial vaginosis. I had thought it to be just another antibiotic and didn’t bother looking anything up about it. The first day I could taste that horrible taste and had a headache, the second day I was in my bed crying, whole body ache, headache, nausea, diarrhea, and that horrible taste, which made the nausea worse, and there’s nothing you can eat or drink that helps it. I felt worse taking Flagyl than I did with BV. I couldn’t do it anymore. After four days of laying in bed feeling like I was dying, I finally got myself up and made an appointment with my GP. He gave me the vaginal suppositories of clindamycin, which seem to be working, no side effects. I get chronic bacterial infections and have had many different types of antibiotics, but Flagyl is something else. Just say no to this one and save yourself a week of laying in bed feeling like death. You’re welcome."

For Bacterial Infection "I was prescribed this medication for BV, 500 mg twice a day for 7 days. I did not look up the symptoms beforehand because of my GAD. I'm glad I did not because I wouldn't have taken the antibiotics. They have helped me tremendously. However, I did experience diarrhea, dizziness, weird vision, crazy dreams, restless nights, rib joint pain, and acid reflux. All of the side effects were manageable and went away after a few days. If you have anxiety and you are reading this now... remember everyone is different. You may not have any side effects at all. Talk to the doctor you trust the most with your concerns. Alright... now go clear up that infection!"

For Intraabdominal Infection "Flagyl was prescribed to me after an appendectomy with a leaking appendix. I took 3 doses at home, and the side effects started immediately and became more severe with every subsequent dose. I was dizzy to the point of having to hold on to the wall to walk. I had the worst metallic bad taste in my mouth that actually made everything taste horrible (water, juices, food, etc.). I was extremely nauseous to the point that I started heaving even with liquids. I had severe diarrhea as well, which I am not sure was related to Flagyl or not, but subsided once I was off that medicine. I was changed to Cypro and have been feeling much, much better with that antibiotic. In my case, I will NEVER take Flagyl again, based on the severe reaction I've experienced."
