"I was in a car accident and my neck/shoulder was extremely painful. I don't like doctors, but after 3 weeks I gave in a went to urgent care. I don't take medicines and have always done the alternative or holistic remedies. Not knowing anything about drugs, he gave me this script for Skelaxin with some samples to try before filling the script. I have only taken 1 tablet at night for the last 3 days. I noticed today I can move better. Everything that has been hurting feels better. What's more, there is no side effect. I just found out from my research tonight that this is a muscle relaxer. This stuff is a wonder drug. I feel so much better and don't feel like a zombie."

"Likewise. As others here have posted, I had an L-4 / L-5 issue. It required a lumbarectomy in 1995. I also have no ability to control myself from over doing dosage with medicines that have mind altering effects. My doctor knew this and prescribed skelaxin "as needed" and a daily stretching regimin. "As needed" has been very controlable, even for me (with my weakness for over use). My pain is relieved and my mind stays clear."

"I have tried everything out there and for me this is a drug that allows me to finally have a day without pain. I have had four cervical spine surgeries and two shoulder replacements. After the surgeries I started having terrible muscle spasms around the neck/shoulder area. I pretty much gave up and just stayed home. I feel like a new person."

"Very good! I was given samples to try instead of the usual generic flexerill I usually take for muscle pain/spasm from severe degeneration in c-spine. This medicine works better and for me had no noticable drowsiness. I can actually feel the release of spasm and loosening of joint pain, unlike the other which leaves me half conscious. Great stuff."

"My side effects were racing heart, bloated stomach, gas, vomiting. Had to drink a gallon of milk for my stomach issues. Next day, still feel nauseous and popping antacids in an attempt to get stomach back to normal. Took pills to police to dispose of them. My option = trash"

"I had to go to 800 mg Metaxalone every 6 hours (directions from the inpatient pain specialist) while trying to recover from an emergency laminectomy L3 & L4, even though the regular directions say per 8 hours. It helped for awhile, but now I am off of it temporarily so the spine specialists can figure how much of the scoliosis is due to which spasms. The original injury caused total paralysis progressing over 6 weeks; I had no choice but to get the surgery. Long ago I took Baclofen for the great pain and spasm relief. However, it caused major memory loss and other mental weirdness that caused people to think I was psychotic. Thank God for a wise doctor who knew about this rare side effect. If you take it, BE CAREFUL!"

"I have muscle problems in my upper and lower back from carrying drums in drumline in high school. My back hurts constantly every day (but a very tolerable and mild pain). But those of you with back problems know that you have good days and bad days. On the bad days I started taking 800mg Skelaxin, and it did absolutely nothing for my pain. It provided the same amount of relief that 2 or 3 Aleve provides."

"I was prescribe this after a very minor fender bender. I thought I was fine after the accident. But as I sat in my work chair, I turned to the side to get a print out and I just got stuck! Stuck by the pain. After the chair situation, the day just got worst. I went to an urgent care where I got the prescription for this along with physical therapy. The conjunction of the 2 might have led to the speedy recovery! After some spring cleaning today, I knew I would need some Skelaxin. I know, seems like normal wear and tear for a home owner. But when you are as inactive as I am, even an extra activity can be excruciating!! Being allergic to ibuprofen also doesn't help. One Skelaxin later and my leg and arm pains went away. Thank goodness."

"No bad side effects, but minimal pain relief in lower back. I did notice lowered tension in shoulders and it felt a lot like Flexaril. Flexaril really causes some bad side efffects for me. Skelaxin had no side effects that I noticed, just not right for my condition. I'll give it credit for lowering general muscular tension though."

"Treatment for Restless Legs Syndrome - I was recently diagnosed with RLS (a condition I thought to be psychosomatic until I got it - it's real!) I thought my wife and I were going to have to sleep in separate beds due to my tossing, turning, stretching, etc. to get relief. From the first dose of Skelaxin the problem was eliminated. It's a wonder-drug in my personal opinion."

"I had muscle spasms from sleeping on my stomach and I couldn't function much at all. I told my doctor I needed something to relieve the pain but something I could function on at work and while driving. She prescribed this and I love it. The only thing I can tell from it whenever I take is relief of my spasms. No drowsiness or loopiness for me."

"I take this medication for pelvic floor dysfunction. It works well, but does leave me a bit foggy. I try to only take one pill a day, but I definitely notice I'm not as sharp for the entire day after taking it. But I couldn't get through physical therapy without it."

"I found Skelaxin made me drowsy but it also made the muscle spasms go away. I take it at night because of that but I realize that I may be a special case because 800 mg of Motrin makes me sleepy as well."

"Day 2 on Skelaxin following a fall which resulted in a rotator cuff injury and deep gashes on my arm. I feel not a bit of relief from this combined with Mobil for the rotator cuff and Keflex for the open wounds. Better relief from 600/800 mg ibuprofen but worried about stomach side effects of taking that much."

"Episodic incidences of serious back spasms and pain due to having herniated discs of L4 and L5. Skelaxin relieves the spasms so I get back to somewhat normal in as short as time as possible without feeling drugged out and tired. It works so far as to what it was prescibed for."

"Skelaxin (metaxalone) for Muscle Spasms worked great when I first started taking it. But as with all my meds, my body has become immune to it. It still helps some but not as much. Over all... I think it is a great medicine for muscle spasms. I have Fibromyalgia, but I can't tell that it helps any with that."

"I just had back surgery for a ruptured disc three weeks ago and my surgeon perscribed me Skelaxin to help the the remnants of muscle spasms I was still having. I was expecting it to knock me out but I was actually able to study for an exam and I was virtually pain and spasm free."

"I have fibromyalgia as well as muscle spasms related to lordosis and to an orthopedic problem, as well as dysmenorrhea. Skelaxin is my rescue medicine. If I get a calf spasm in the bad leg that a hot pack and some stretching won't subdue, half a Skelaxin will do the trick, no sedation, just good work. I'd give it a ten if it weren't so very expensive! When I have the very bad cramping related to my menstrual period, 100 mg of tramadol and 400 mg of skelaxin will make me drowsy and unfocused, but it means that while I can still tell I'm cramping, it's like someone shouting inside a house while you stand outside, and I can get on with things as needed."

"My dr prescribed this to help with some muscle spasms I had related to TMJ. It works wonderfully for this condition. However, I recently pulled some muscles in my back shoveling snow. I used this drug to help try and alleviate some of the muscle spasms, but it did not work as well on this larger group of muscles."
