For Irritable Bowel Syndrome with Constipation "Awful medicine! I know the side effects are listed, but you might as well stay cooped up in your house for two weeks running to the bathroom. Nauseous, dizzy, and diarrhea severe, not worth it. Try natural supplement instead."

For Irritable Bowel Syndrome with Constipation "I tried everything. Diet, exercise, teas, fiber supplements, Miralax, Amitiza (Rx). This is the only one that has worked immediately and effectively. I am out of commission for two hours after taking which has to be on an empty stomach, so I'm only taking on weekends now. No headaches, nausea, or other ill effects like when I took Amitiza or Miralax. Hope this keeps working long term."

For Chronic Idiopathic Constipation "Took for about 3 weeks. TERRIBLE! Started on 145 mg, took a couple of days to work, finally did with diarrhea for 2 days, which was fine compared to my chronic constipation, BUT it did not continue to work, then went up to the 290 dose and only worked minimally, became extremely backed up, and this medicine made me constantly belch, which was never a problem before. It was the type of painful belching that never gives you relief. I also developed heartburn, burning in my entire stomach, pain, nausea, bloating, and just a lot of acid. I felt so sick I couldn't even eat. After a trip to the ER and a CAT scan to rule out anything serious (which showed that I was still extremely backed up), I realized that maybe it was this medicine making me feel this way. Then I read reviews with similar effects, not to mention the serious long-term side effects this medicine can cause. NO THANK YOU! I've never felt worse since taking Linzess and would not recommend."

For Irritable Bowel Syndrome with Constipation "I don’t know how anyone can tolerate this. I know everyone is different. Began on 290 mg, and it took many days to work, but when it did, oh boy. I didn’t make it to the bathroom. Now I started on 72 mg, and by day 2, I did go and am sick to my stomach. This inconsistency of it working just won’t cut it. I also can’t be sick for the day when it works. Being constipated and other IBS symptoms are better than this."

For Chronic Idiopathic Constipation "I have had problems all my life having a BM, and as I got older, it became harder and harder to go at all, then I could not go at all. I have tried everything, some things worked a couple of times and then stopped. I was desperate, I had to give myself a colonic to empty my bowel. Then I tried Linzess, and it works, but it does not completely empty my bowel, and I take 290! I have to take Miralax with it, and that helps. I go like three times a day, but not to completion. My life has changed drastically, as I don't have to spend hours in the bathroom giving myself a colonic. Also, it does not cause cramps, nausea, and dizziness, all of which other products did."

For Chronic Idiopathic Constipation "I have chronic idiopathic constipation due to opioid pain medications and also have chronic Hep C. I'm in the fibrosis late stage. Having fibrosis of the liver affects the secretion of chloride and bicarbonate into the intestinal lumen, mainly through activation of cystic fibrosis. Hence, I have had cramps, pain, fullness, unable to eliminate stools completely. Even with laxatives and Miralax, I still had a hard time even getting the urge. Hard stools, sometimes I would cramp so hard I would scream in pain, unable to move. Even an enema didn't work. Then I started this medication 3 days ago. It worked the first day well. I took it in the morning and went the next morning and eliminated completely. I feel so much better, no more fever, not nauseated anymore."

For Chronic Idiopathic Constipation "I have been taking Linzess for about 5 months now. I have had bowel obstructions, fecal impactions, and a perforated colon that required multiple surgeries and being in critical care. Before Linzess, I would take Senna, Miralax, mineral oil, and ground flax seed. I would add Milk of Magnesia as needed. None of those worked. I could go 3-4 weeks taking all of the above daily and still not be able to go to the bathroom. I had tried a lower strength of Linzess years ago, and it did nothing for me. I asked my doctor to prescribe it again out of sheer desperation. This time I was put on 290 mcg. I am experiencing much more positive results. For the first couple of months, I had very watery diarrhea multiple times a day. I did not experience any stomach cramps or nausea. Now that I have been on it for 5 months, it has changed somewhat. I still have diarrhea daily, but not as severe."

For Chronic Idiopathic Constipation "Only worked the first time I took it. I have an enlarged colon, IBS-C. It's a miracle to have a bowel motion. Took milk of magnesia a whole year, tree tea root, laxatives, Amitiza. The only thing that helps is magnesium pills. I hope this medication works for others. I only had a headache and a small amount of nausea from it. Unlike Amitiza, which spiked my BP to stroke level."

For Chronic Idiopathic Constipation "Have had chronic constipation for years, have tried quite nearly everything (Miralax, Exlax, Dulcolax, Senna, Milk of Mag, Amitiza, + home remedies and other medications I can't remember), and this still did not work. Started low dose, just horrible (but not Dulcolax level) abdominal cramping and nausea in waves."

For Chronic Idiopathic Constipation "I have been on the medication for the last 7 days for chronic constipation and gastrointestinal pain. It has produced daily bowel movements in the form of diarrhea or very loose stools. However, it has also resulted in unbearable abdominal and intestinal pain, nausea, gas, distention, bloating, inability to eat, intestinal gurgling, and intestinal spasms that last 12 full hours after taking this medication. I was so hopeful that this would be effective, and it has produced daily stools (diarrhea and loose stools) but at the compromise of feeling 10 times worse than I have felt not having any bowel movements or minimal bowel movements before taking this medication."

For Irritable Bowel Syndrome with Constipation "I have IBS with constipation. Been taking the 145 mg for about 3-4 months. The first two weeks I was on Linzess, it didn't help me at all. So my doctor told me to take a double dose. (Found out I had a blockage, which the double dose with Miralax on top got rid of.) I got diarrhea for about a week, then went to have 1 regular bowel movement almost every morning after the pill. I was feeling better than ever. It did give me headaches and distension, though, for about a week. After about 2 weeks on a double dose, I went back down to a single dose. Everything was still going smoothly. Until about 2 weeks ago, I've been getting urgent diarrhea every day for about 6 hours after taking the pill. And occasionally getting stomach pain and nausea again (which is why I started)."

For Irritable Bowel Syndrome with Constipation "I have chronic IBS, and I had the diarrhea IBS when I was young. I'd go before dinner was over; now I don't go for weeks, and if I do, they are pearls. ;( I went to the doctor 2 days ago. I got a sample; my doctor said you don't bloat or cramp when you take this, which was not true. I looked this up because I'm in such dying pain. I've been miserable for 2 hours now, and I've gone 12 times. Every time I sit down, I get stomach pains. I run to the bathroom to explode. I'm getting leg cramps from sitting too much. I was using a heating pad. Now my butt burns. I need butt paste to heal, and for the last hour, I've had contractions of pain. Nausea, chills, and anxiety to go again, with panic and a burned butt with poo-looking particles of sand."

For Chronic Idiopathic Constipation "I have had more issues with tummy pain, bloating, and nausea than with just constipation. Sometimes I won't go to the bathroom for 2 days. My gastroenterologist put me on Linzess. I go to the bathroom a little bit more often, but I didn't see a huge difference. The only thing that really helped me and made a huge difference in my life was going NON-GMO. My allergist told me that my digestive system couldn't handle genetically modified foods. It's like an explosion takes place in your stomach after you eat. Please, if you're in pain, look pregnant, and can't go to the bathroom, try a NON-GMO diet. I'm not a doctor, and I'm not telling you what to do, but this is what works for me."

For Chronic Idiopathic Constipation "I have been so nauseated and weak. I have gained weight and bloated all the time. I have bouts of diarrhea and still feel bloated. I am so weak and sick to my stomach right now that I told my husband I need to look this up because the only thing different is the Linzess. I go to look it up and find it's definitely the medication. Wow, why is this still on the market? I definitely will not be taking any more of this medication."

For Chronic Idiopathic Constipation "I got samples from my Dr. I've lived with chronic constipation probably all my life. The pain this medicine gave me is not worth taking it. My stomach felt like it was being thrashed. Horrible pain with nausea. One morning I took it as prescribed (I hadn't taken one in a week), and an hour later I was overcome by projectile diarrhea. No warning. Couldn't even make it to the bathroom. The two times I've taken this, this is what has occurred. An enema was better than this. I'll never take it again, and I will share my experience with this to anyone considering getting on it."

For Chronic Idiopathic Constipation "I first experienced very good results with this medicine. Now, being on it for 4 months, I have had some side effects now for the past week. Feels like I have more bloating than before and frequent bowel movements, along with nausea and feeling pressure in my colon more so than before. Pain so intense that I have been taking Motrin to ease the uncomfortable feelings I have been having for a week now. I am reporting to my doctor tomorrow or as soon as possible."

For Chronic Idiopathic Constipation "I've had severe chronic constipation for 3 years now. About a week ago, I finally got health insurance, so the first thing I did was make an appointment with a gastro. She prescribed me Linzess. For the first 2 days of taking it, I had horrible cramps, and my stomach was constantly making noises. Well, on the 3rd day, I finally went. It was only a tiny bit, which was very disappointing. I'm now on day 4, and I am literally stuck to the toilet. I have severe cramps, nausea, heartburn, headache, and no energy whatsoever. I feel like I could fall asleep on the toilet. I have never been so miserable. I will definitely be calling my doctor on Monday and will never take this horrible pill again."

For Irritable Bowel Syndrome with Constipation "I did not have a pleasant experience on Linzess. Every time I took one dose of this medication, 20 minutes later, I was flushed, light-headed, and extremely nauseous, followed by an aggressive and painful bowel movement. Would not recommend."

For Irritable Bowel Syndrome with Constipation "I have IBS-C, milder than some people, but still not pleasant. I took this before lunch, and after an hour and a half, I had diarrhea that kept me in the bathroom for about an hour. I had no anxiety with it, but it was not pleasant not knowing how long it would last. My IBS-C pain was gone, anxiety was gone, but I couldn't do anything other than either sit on the toilet or not go very far from the bathroom. Day 2, I actually tried to split the contents of the capsule in half, and I still had to stay near a bathroom for a few hours, but it wasn't as intense, the pain was gone, but I had nausea. I don't feel that for me this medication is worth it. I'll just use magnesium if I need to flush my system."

For Chronic Idiopathic Constipation "64 yr old female. When in my 30s, I used Zelnorm. Loved it, but it was taken off the market. In my 40s, I switched to Amitiza. I used it, but it has always given me flu-like symptoms. Body aches, nausea, headache, did not like it. I also found that with all these drugs, you have to start low on whatever dosage works for you, but your body develops a tolerance for it over time and you need to up the dosage. I was having to take more Amitiza, making me feel sicker. When Linzess came out in my mid 50s, it worked for me and it does not make me sick. But over time, I have noticed increased bloating, puffiness, weight gain, and joint pain. Hate that! All of them caused diarrhea. I take mine when I go to bed, maybe around 11:00, and begin to feel stomach cramps about 3-4:00 in the morning. I get up and go, then sleep a couple of hours until 6:00 when I get up for work. I don’t get great sleep that night, but it’s better than being at work and going, and going. I take 2 highest doses every 2-3 days."

For Chronic Idiopathic Constipation "Took 145 mcg for about 3 weeks. Took almost 2 weeks to start working. No diarrhea and little help with daily bowel movements. Side effects for me were awful: extreme fatigue, muscle weakness, shakiness, dizziness, and nausea. Pretty sure it raised my blood glucose by the way I felt, but never tested. I am only pre-diabetic, 5.7 A1C. Anyway, I stopped taking it and hope I feel back to normal soon. I was so hopeful and was willing to endure some side effects, but not those! Gonna give Miralax a try. I have tried everything else. Good luck, fellow constipators. Be careful."

"I have been diagnosed with small bowel bacterial overgrowth. I had eaten at a restaurant last September and had gotten very sick from the food, and have had stomach problems since then: bloating and constipation. The GI prescribed me Linzess a few days ago. I took the first one yesterday, and a few hours later, I had such horrible, severe diarrhea. My stomach cramped most of the day, and I was pretty nauseated to where all I felt comfortable eating was toast and Cream of Wheat. Just took my second one; I will see if that was a one-time effect or if it'll happen again. If it does, I will not take any more, as the diarrhea was so, so severe that I'd rather put up with the bloating and constipation than the severe diarrhea."

For Chronic Idiopathic Constipation "Have been constipated for 5 days. Started to feel sick to my stomach and nauseous from the backlog, so I decided last night around 9 pm to take one of the Linzess pills. (My doctor prescribed them over 2 months ago, but after reading the reviews, I’ve been hesitant to take them. I reached a breaking point last night and said the heck with it - I’m taking one.) Around 11, just a few hours later, I could feel something happening and headed to the loo. It was uncomfortable getting all the “old stuff” out with the pressure building up behind the jam, but it finally cleared…and then the real fun started. Ya ever done a prep for a colonoscopy before? This doesn’t feel any different: watery stool that just comes out. It’s now 6 am, and I’ve been up all night running back and forth to the toilet. Even though I’m exhausted, and I don’t think the experience is over yet, I feel so much better. I will save Linzess for a last-ditch effort."

For Chronic Idiopathic Constipation "I struggled with agonizing constipation for decades! My entire digestive system is slow! Drinking up to a gallon of water a day, exercise, fiber, nothing worked unless I took Dulcolax, and it often came with nausea, unbearable cramps (I even fainted on several occasions). I have a severe back issue, and the constipation doubled the pain because of the constant pressure. Finally went to the doctor (GI specialist), and he prescribed LINZESS. When I picked up the medication and googled it, I figured out it was the same medication for which I participated in a study back in 2009. It's a lifesaver!!!! Going every other day is awesome, and I was able to put off my back surgery for at least 6 more months. No funky side effects!"
