For Birth Control "I’m 23, and I have never had children. Before the procedure: I was prescribed a medication to help soften and open up my cervix so that insertion would be easier. I went in February 2017 to have my procedure done. I was also on the 3rd day of my period at the time. The pain was a 4 on a scale from 1-10. She was trying to insert the IUD for almost 1-2 minutes and advised that she was unable to because my cervix was not open enough. My doctor doubled the dose of the medication and advised me to come back in a month to retry. Come March 2017, the insertion went smoothly! Right after the procedure: I was able to walk out of the office fine, and the drive home was just fine as well. The cramps started to get A LOT WORSE around the 3rd week up until the 3rd month from cyst development. March 2018: My periods have been extremely, extremely light and regulated. Pain is gone. Side effects: lower sex drive, swollen/tender breasts, lower back pain, frequent bloating & gas, BV development."

For Birth Control "I had Liletta inserted 6 months after giving birth to my second child. Soon after, I started having constant yeast infections as well as vaginal bacterial infections. They would prescribe gels, problems would go away and come back. I felt pain during intercourse. Finally, I was diagnosed with an STD. To this day, it's a mystery. I decided to get the device removed. I took antibiotics for the STD, and it went away even though my husband never took any treatment for that, and we had sex soon after w/o any issues."

"I had the Liletta IUD inserted 1 month ago. I was diagnosed with PCOS and only got my period twice in a year. Horrible hormonal imbalances, and when I was menstruating, I was hemorrhaging for 5 to 6 days straight, nonstop. It was horrendous. I was hopeful the IUD would rid me completely of my sporadic 'periods,' regulate my hormones, and ease all the rest of my PMS and PCOS problems. Now, I've bled more in the 4 weeks since I've had this than in the last 12 months before this. It's costing me more money as I'm bleeding in my clothes and bed sheets. I have to buy a box of tampons every 4 days. My back pain is a 10 out of 10 all day, every day, as are my cramps, bleeding, and breast tenderness. My acne returned. I lost my sex drive, personality, and desire to go anywhere or do anything. Which doesn't matter anyway because I'm in consistent, chronic pain that has 100% affected my daily life and work. This never-ending faucet of blood is also extremely frustrating. If I could pull this thing out myself, I would."

For Birth Control "I had Liletta inserted after 3 years of being on Depo. Insertion was painful but not too bad, caused some mild cramping for a few days. All was fine for the first few months until I saw a rapid decline in my mental health. My anxiety is terrible as it is, but Liletta made everything worse by causing countless physical symptoms. My back hurts 24/7, headaches, spotting that doesn’t go away, long periods, cramps, bloating, and that’s just a few. Not to mention the strings have gotten lost in my cervix and into my uterus, causing me to have to get ultrasounds to check if it’s in place. I’m not myself anymore, I'm so moody and have lost my sex drive too. I’m getting it taken out and going back on Depo. It’s definitely not for everybody. At least I didn’t get pregnant."

For Birth Control "Everyone has different experiences with Liletta. I got the Liletta replaced after Skyla had fallen out. Insertion for both was the same. Just a pinch and it was over. Not bad at all. For the Liletta, the strings were cut too short. I had a few days of spotting after insertion, but then I was back to normal. The pro is that Liletta was very effective in avoiding pregnancy and it got rid of my period. The con is that I experienced frequent painful headaches, cramping before my periods (which is new to me), painful sex from sharp ovary pain and dryness, low libido, acne, weight gain, and serious bloating. For removal, I had to get my cervix dilated because the strings curled up inside. Two months have passed and now I'm 15 lbs down & symptoms have faded."

For Birth Control "Overall, I really appreciate Liletta. I’ve had it about 6 months. For me, insertion was extremely painful, and I had to call out of work for a few days because my cramps were so awful. As my doctor warned, I spotted for about a month after insertion, and my sex drive was really low. Whether that was because of the hormones or me just feeling gross because of all the spotting, I’m not sure. But since then, I have barely had a period and experience an occasional, fleeting cramp! I have sex very regularly with my boyfriend without a condom and have never gotten pregnant. Looking back on the past few months, I think I have had more erratic mood swings than before - for a few days I will be on top of the world, and the next I might have a breakdown that feels inevitable. Again, I don’t know how much of these mood swings have been because of Liletta, as I’ve always struggled with anxiety and depression and am medicated for those. Overall, good experience!"

For Birth Control "I got the Liletta to help with inflammation in my uterus and heavy, painful periods. Insertion was painful, but didn’t last long. Spotted on and off for the first couple of months. It’s been 9 months now, and for the past 2-3 months, I’ve had the brown, old blood/discharge constantly. I can’t wear light clothes or go without pantyliners. No sex drive, but when we do have sex, it’s uncomfortable. I want to have it removed. Not sure the constant brown, old blood is better than the heavy periods!"

For Birth Control "I had Liletta inserted almost 3 years ago. Within the last 6 months, I have noticed substantial hair thinning and terrible acne. My sex drive hasn’t changed that I’ve noticed, but I have had pain with sex on and off. It was great until it started affecting my hair and skin."

For Birth Control "I am reading this blog, and I have had extreme weight gain since I started using Liletta. I previously had the copper IUD for 12 years. No issues. My doctor told me Liletta was a great choice when I was having my IUD replaced, and I wish I found these stories before saying yes to it! I gained about 32 lb in 2.5 years, and I am always bloated, moody, and irritable. I'm tired and have zero sex drive, and this is so abnormal for me. Everyone kept saying you're getting older, but I just didn't feel right in my own body. I will be calling my doctor and having it removed this week!"

For Birth Control "I received my Liletta IUD in October 2019, when I was 19, and 5 months later, in March 2020, I was rushed to the ER, and I had ovarian cysts rupture. I had never even heard of this happening. I didn’t think it was totally related to my IUD, however, it has now almost been 2 years since getting Liletta, and I have the most painful periods every month. It feels like I have cysts rupturing, and my right ovary is always in pain. I have never had painful periods prior to the IUD. I also have noticed a significant decrease in sex drive, and I have been diagnosed with chronic anxiety. I plan to get my IUD removed ASAP, but unfortunately, it’s impossible to get an appointment."

For Birth Control "I’m 23, no kids, been on the pill since I was 18. I switched to Liletta on May 18. It’s now August 18. The insertion was one of the most painful experiences. The next few days I had discomfort, but more on the crampy side. I had spotting after, which they said would be normal the first 3-6 months. It only got worse. The discharge was to a point I was changing liners 2-3 times a day. It eventually calmed down, but I’ve repeatedly had it. I don’t want to have sex 'cause it feels gross and looks disgusting. I’ve never had a yeast infection until now with Liletta. I tried Monistat for the first time, and it calmed down the discharge but still having it. Although part of me assumes it’s the thickening of the cervical mucus (which they said would happen). Besides the discharge, the only other side effects I’ve noticed are the cramping, but it can be helped with ibuprofen. I get discomfort occasionally, severe loss of appetite, and a drop in sex drive. I love the effectiveness of the IUD otherwise."

For Birth Control "I got the Liletta in 08/2016 after experiencing a miscarriage. I've had cramping the first week, which went away, but now I have a low sex drive, acne, and weight gain. I went to a dermatologist, she prescribed facial wash, antibiotics, and suggested I remove the IUD. She also said progestin-based birth control can make acne worse. I will remove it next week. Don't use it if you don't have to."

For Birth Control "I feel like I must share my experience, but remember every woman is different! The insertion, from the scale of 1-10, was a 9, and I have never had kids before; I am a 23-year-old female. I have never in my entire life experienced pain such as this, and that's with surgery before. Spotting and cramping after the procedure that Vicodin didn't help at all! I was told the cramping and spotting would continue for a week, so I waited and suffered. My sex drive diminished; I have been breaking out everywhere: back, neck, chest, face, and shoulders. The cramps are NOT normal period cramps; this was intense 8.2 pain cramps that 1200 mg of Advil barely helped! I put a heat pack on, and nothing helped. Getting this removed ASAP!"

For Birth Control "I had my Liletta put in on May 3rd this year. Keep in mind I've never had children or been pregnant. During insertion, I felt the most intense pain I had ever experienced before. I was one of the few that went into 'shock' after having it put in. My cramps lasted the entire time I had it in, and I had painful intercourse as well. I recently took it out myself and already feel a ton better. When I pulled the IUD out, I noticed it was crooked instead of in a T shape. I am one of the few to have a bad experience, but please talk to your doctor about it if you have any issues!"
