For Birth Control "I started my Liletta a week ago, and so far, so good. Haven’t experienced any crazy mood swings or any other side effects thus far. Will give another update later. I switched from Nuvaring to the contraceptive pill to this IUD."

For Birth Control "I had Liletta put in nearly a year ago. The insertion went really well. For about 6-7 months after, I had constant spotting, but never really got my period. I also gained a TON of weight (40+ lbs) very quickly (within 2 months) with no indication of budging! After months of consistent working out and watching my diet, the weight hasn’t budged and only continued to increase. The mood swings are violent during when my period is supposed to happen, and I scheduled an appointment to have it removed this Friday! I can’t wait to get my life back after watching my self-confidence plummet."

For Birth Control "I have had Liletta for over a year and have had zero complaints. I no longer get a period (they went away around month 11). I have no pain or discomfort from it, though I did the first 4-5 days after insertion. It has prevented me from pregnancy, it has not made me gain weight or have any other negative effects. My breasts aren't tender because of the hormones, no mood swings, no acne. None of the common complaints of the pill, this is 1,000,000 times better than the Depo-Provera shot, which I HATED. Don't ever get the shot done, trust me, it's god-awful. Liletta definitely beats the pill, too. I will be getting this reinserted after my next pregnancy."

For Birth Control "The Liletta was inserted with no pain at all. I felt like I noticed there was something in my body for the first 24 hours, then nothing at all. I bled for 3 months straight after insertion and didn't have a period since. I finally had it removed after 6 months because of the side effects. My mood swings were crazy, but I could deal with that. What I couldn't deal with any longer was the severe aches and pains I had, one week it was foot/ankle pain, the next was severe back pain (I wasn't able to walk a few times because of this). The pain was non-stop, and I finally decided to have it removed last month after experiencing stabbing pains on the left side of my head, followed by a dull headache that would last 24-48 hours."

For Birth Control "First update on my Liletta since my initial post on 8/13/16. Pain has gone away totally. No cramps. Some light red blood from the uterus lining beginning to thin out. Panty liners work well for this. Cons so far - mood swings. They come out of nowhere, and I can be fine one second and ready to fight strangers the next. I've become more confrontational. Pros - I've had sex once since I got the IUD, it was fine, normal, no one felt anything. So far, so good."

For Birth Control "I heard from a bunch of mom friends that IUDs were the way to go and really not very painful at all, especially after you've had kids. Well, after a stupid amount of research, I had it inserted on February 24th, 2017. It's March 7th, 2017, and I have not stopped bleeding. The procedure was very painful for me, but it was quick. My husband came with too. I don't think I could have driven myself afterward. I did take ibuprofen as suggested an hour before, and I have had two normal vaginal births of 8-pound boys. Also, I have a bunch of piercings, tattoos, and broken bones. Thought I had a high pain tolerance. I've been having mood swings and hot/cold sweats. Irritable, crying, sad mainly. I'm thinking about removing it at the 4-week check-up. No sexy time yet :("

For Birth Control "I had Liletta inserted June '16, was uncomfortable, cramped for a week after. Periods got lighter then stopped. A year later I started just spotting for my period. I use a regular tampon or panty liner for it. The issue I have is it comes out brown and mostly dry. My face also started to break out again and my hair pattern changed. Lost 40+ lbs while on this, but I can't say if that stuff was from the IUD or something else. I'm always bloated, on and off all day for no reason, even when not eating. I get random cramping, too. Having issues with my depression and anxiety: don't recognize my behavior; the littlest things make me sad or anxious, always worried about everything and haven't been able to maintain relationships because it's gotten so bad. Never used to be like this. Thinking of getting it removed as I've had it for 2 years and want to be hormone-free. Other than my hair, skin, mood changes and bloating, I would recommend this to people."

For Birth Control "I have had the Liletta IUD in place for about 4 months now. I don't recommend getting this form of birth control. Insertion is very painful. I didn't bleed that hard after insertion and have had a period every month, but more recently I have been getting horrible random cramps with slight spotting, terrible back pain, headaches, having a terrible time losing the baby weight (she's 7 months old... only lost 8 pounds), worse acne than I had in high school, fatigued, and extreme mood swings. Think 3 times before getting this put in place. I am scheduled to get mine removed in a week, and I can't wait."

For Birth Control "I had Liletta inserted two and a half weeks ago. The insertion process definitely hurt, but I was able to breathe through it and then go back to work afterwards. I didn't bleed the first few days after insertion but have bled continuously since. It's been about like always being on the first day of my period. The biggest thing I've noticed so far are some pretty intense emotional swings. I'm hoping they'll level out, but I've cried four times in the last two days for pretty minor reasons. I'll update later. Overall though, it hasn't been a bad process considering that I no longer have to take a pill every day."

For Birth Control "It's almost 2 am in Florida. This is how much I hate Liletta. I've had it for a month and have never been in so much pain in my entire life. I've been up all night vomiting, my period is that bad with it. The cramps are knock-the-wind-out-of-you bad. I never experienced this with Paragard. I'm getting it removed next week. I will literally sit at the office if they don't give me an appointment, and I'll refuse to leave until this is out of me. I've never been in consistent pain like this. The mood swings are for the birds too."

For Birth Control "I'm 23, never given birth, had it inserted 9/16. I have a high pain tolerance, but the insertion was brutal and I nearly passed out. Horrible cramps and weakness the next few days. Although it's effective, I almost got it removed in the first couple of months because of side effects: crazy mood swings, cramps, bloating, cravings, acne all over, spotting. Like puberty all over again. My doctor advised me to give it 6 months and see how I feel. 4 months in, and the side effects are getting better, more noticeable around my period, which has become much lighter but longer. I went from a heavy 4-5 days on the pill to a very light 10-12. I'm not sure if it's a good trade, but I'm going to wait and see if the hormones level out."

For Birth Control "So my insertion was August 2016. It was horrible. Everybody said it was gonna feel like a pinch and be over in 5 mins. The clamps that they used to extend your cervix hurt so much, and they were having a really hard time inserting the IUD. I had to take numerous breaks, I was in so much pain. I have multiple piercings, nipples being one, multiple tattoos, so pain isn't too much of a problem for me. After insertion that day, I had terrible cramps. I bled for 2.5 weeks. But 6 months later, I love it. My periods are super light if I get it at all. No pain. I can't feel it during sex, and I'm still not pregnant. I am noticing I am a little extra emotional, but it doesn't bother me."

For Birth Control "I had this inserted in October 2016. Doctor assured me it would be easy and painless since I just had a baby. It was the worst experience of my life, I almost passed out from the pain. After about 20 minutes, he finally got it. It's now 8 months later, and I get my period 3 weeks out of the month, I have a break for 1 week, and it's back. Before getting my period, I get extremely depressed, my mood swings are terrible. I have terrible cramping the whole time my period is here. I was hoping after a few months my period would become lighter, or at this point just back to normal, but it seems to be getting worse. The only good thing I can say about this birth control is that I have not become pregnant."

For Birth Control "I was taking the pill for about a year, but felt like I didn't like the mood swings or remembering to take it. I got the Liletta IUD in September of 2015. The initial pain was bearable, and after a few days of spotting, it was over. I have periods sometimes still, but usually only every few months-and the bleeding is very light. As birth control, I love it. But, there are a few things that I don't like: 1) my partner is rather well endowed, and when we have sex in certain positions, the string scratches him a bit. It may have been how it was put in. 2) I got horrible hormonal acne from it. I went from mostly clear skin to awful and painful constant acne. I went to my dermatologist, and I got a medication that cleared it up."

For Birth Control "I got my Liletta in September 2016. I was a little scared that day, and I thought they were not going to insert it because I had my period. But my doctor said it is better to insert it when you're on your period. It was fast and minor pain. I had painful cramps for one hour that day only. For the next 3 months, my cycles were normal, and everything was good. But for the past 2 months, I started having some discomfort: hot flashes, back pain, mood swings, fatigue, chest pain, very low sex drive, and minor depression. The worst is the hot flashes. I've done thyroid, estrogen, pregnancy tests, and others. All the results are good. I don't know if it's the Liletta, it's the only recent change I have made."

For Birth Control "Got this in at my 6-week appointment after having my son in 2016. There was some cramping and spotting, of course, but that was to be expected. After that, periods resumed as normal, my normal timing, my normal flow. Now, at almost 2 years, I think my periods have stopped completely. I'm not complaining though. As long as it does the job, I'm fine. Also, I will note that I haven't had any unusual weight gain or anything outside of my normal mood swings that come right before my period since having this in. It's almost like it's not even there, to me."

For Birth Control "I’ve had Liletta for about 7 months, getting it removed. My boyfriend and I together for 4 years. It was just time to take out my Mirena (6 yrs). My doctor suggested Liletta as the exact same. 3 months in, I had severe pain in my breasts, to the point where I could not even touch them in the shower. Lasted about 2 weeks. 5 months in, I noticed weight increase. Good diet and exercise. Nothing different. My normal sex drive is high. I’m currently going on forcing myself to mentally get there about once every few weeks. But the worst part is my daily mood swings. I can wake up and start the day by being rude and continue the day barely wanting to talk to him or make eye contact. He makes me angry. And that’s not normal. He is always looking out for my well-being. It breaks my “rational” heart. I hope your experience is better. But if you experience anything like I have, please know you’re not alone. This sucks. And I look forward to being my normal happy self once again!"

For Birth Control "I got the Liletta IUD about 3 years ago. Now, while I’m told anyone who gets an IUD who’s never had kids has more pain than ones who have had kids, I never expected it to be as bad as it was. I almost passed out, I was in severe pain for days. Eventually, when it went away, I didn’t have an issue with its effectiveness. However, randomly once a month I would have the worst cramps, I became more emotional than I had ever been. I gained around 70 lbs, and I tried every diet imaginable to try and lose weight, and nothing worked. And when it was getting close to the time when it needed to come out, I was having even worse cramps and spotting randomly. It worked for the fact that I didn’t get pregnant and didn’t have a period, but everything else was terrible. So I’m giving it a 5 because while it works, it’s not worth it."

For Birth Control "It was awful. Constant pelvic pain, severe mood swings, little to no libido, discomfort during intercourse, depressive episodes, worsened anxiety. When my body rejected it, I suffered a hormonal crash that my Gyno denied being a thing. Never again would I ever consider an IUD."

For Birth Control "I got my Liletta IUD placed in October 2017, and yes, the insertion 100% sucked. However, that lasted only about 5 minutes. I cramped a bit and put a heating pad on me for that night, but was completely fine the next day. Over time, I realized that I haven’t experienced any mood swings, headaches, or weight gain! I actually lost weight, and I am so happy that I don’t have to take a pill, and I love even more that it doesn’t have estrogen in it. More importantly, no baby! I check the wire a few times a month (out of habit) and learned about my body better. I honestly love this birth control. Liletta is by far the best BC I’ve ever had. The ONLY con for me is that my man can feel the wire when we’re intimate, and it sometimes hurts him to the point that he has to stop. I’ve been told it’ll soften up... but it hasn’t. Still, best BC otherwise."

For Birth Control "I have now had the Liletta for 6 months and will be getting it removed in a few days. Since insertion, I have experienced a plethora of side effects: insomnia, cystic acne, anxiety, breast tenderness, weight gain, brain fog (I can't even remember what I had for breakfast), headaches, mood swings, hot flashes, and night sweats. It is just not worth it to me anymore. I have done some research on the Paraguard and have decided that I don't want to risk using it either. I will stick with condoms and planning around my cycle. My family doctor was reluctant to schedule my removal and claims that these side effects are not related to the IUD. I 100% disagree. Please do some research and some serious thinking before choosing this option. I look forward to getting my body back to normal, sounds like I will have a bit of an uncomfortable detox before that happens."

For Birth Control "I am 25, no kids, never had BC. I got Liletta about 3 months ago. Insertion wasn’t that bad. I took some pain pills before I went. It was like a really bad cramp and only lasted a few minutes. Afterwards, I didn’t bleed at all for a week, and then I was spotting every day for about a month. I’m going into my 3rd month and have not had a period since getting it at all. I cramped so badly for an entire month. I had to carry Advil with me everywhere I went. But after the first month passed, they settled down. Now, on month 3, the cramps are very rare. The 1st month, my skin was awful, I was depressed, and had so many mood swings that 1st month. And now, at the 3rd month, I am noticing the breast tenderness everyone mentions. I also have like a really thick, clear, jelly-like discharge. I’m still waiting for my first period while having the IUD. (I’ve taken pregnancy tests, so I know that’s not it) but now that the cramps have settled, I’m a lot happier with my IUD."

For Birth Control "I got my Liletta on May 28th, 2017. I have never been pregnant or had sex before, so insertion was uncomfortable and painful. The pinch on the cervix hurt, but the foreign object holding open my vaginal opening hurt more for me. Post-insertion, pain subsided after about 45 minutes, and I felt fine. I was mid-menstrual cycle when I got mine inserted. Days following, cramps began to develop every day and light bleeding followed. I lost my appetite and felt sleepy all the time. Light bleeding (only had to use light tampons) was consistent, and cramps got worse and occurred every day. (Cramps are the worst part by far.) At about 2.5 weeks after insertion, I began to feel some mood swings and had an acne breakout. Symptoms still occurring 5 weeks out."

For Birth Control "I had the Liletta IUD inserted two months ago. Insertion was very painful, but the experience took 5 minutes altogether. The pain following didn't last longer than a day. So far, I've noticed my periods last a lot longer, before the IUD, they would last 5 days. Now they last 8-10. I also spot almost every single day. Both of these things are manageable, but if I wasn't single, this would interfere with my sex life. Benefits: I don't get crazy mood swings like I used to on the pill, and I don't have a lot of hair growth on my body, it seems like my hair doesn't grow as fast. Cons: I'm very frustrated this month because I've developed cystic acne along my left jaw, cheek, and forehead, and I can't lose weight, whereas before I could."

For Birth Control "I'm sure by now you've seen a thousand of the reviews about the weight gain, the mood swings, the depression, and the acne that are the hallmark of Liletta users; so I will just say that in the 9 months I've had this BC, that has all happened to me (minus the acne, thank God). I have also had the fun addition of constant nausea that reminds me of nothing so strongly as the never-ending morning sickness I had with my son, where I was constantly nibbling to soothe my upset stomach and ended up gaining 20 lbs in the first trimester alone. I can't trust my emotions because they're ping-ponging between sadness, detached depression, spontaneous bursting into tears, and normalcy. I used to be even-keeled before this thing was put in. And my OB said it was just like the Mirena.... yeah right! At least I haven't had a period to speak of since it was installed. The dose must just be too high for me."
