For Birth Control "I’ve had the Liletta for almost 2 months now. Insertion was incredibly painful, even with pain medication, and I almost passed out. Cramps subsided after a couple of days. I spotted for the first few days, and then I didn’t get my period for over a month. When I finally got it, it lasted over seven days, when mine were normally three. The week leading up, I ended up having a cyst that ruptured, which was incredibly painful. I’ve been incredibly moody, and my anxiety is at an all-time high. I will get random spurts of unexplained nausea, sex is painful, my libido is lower, and I have a lot of pelvic pain. I’m giving this another month to see how my next cycle goes, and if no improvement, I’m getting this awful device out!"

For Birth Control "I had Liletta for 19 miserable months until I figured out all the side effects I was experiencing were from Liletta! I got it put in September 2017, a month after my daughter was born, and thought the symptoms were due to postpartum anxiety and depression! Nope, it was the stupid IUD. I found a Facebook support group for IUD side effects on Facebook, and ladies, these things are deadly! I got my Liletta taken out at the end of February 2019, and even though it has only been 2 months, I feel a lot better. My side effects were: anxiety, depression, hopelessness, anger, liver damage, vertigo, depersonalization, and so much more. It was turning me into a completely different person!"

For Birth Control "When I first got the Liletta, I was excited. I have tried to take the pill in the past, and it ended in extreme nausea and weight gain. Not to mention, I kept forgetting to take it every single day at the same time. The Liletta seemed like a great idea since it's a 'get it and forget it' type of deal. Plus, my periods have always been very light, so the Liletta stopped all bleeding for me. However, I went from 130 lbs to 165 lbs in less than four months. Nothing had changed with my diet or exercise routine. In fact, I tried a new diet plan, and every time I jumped on the scale, the numbers were higher and higher. I am extremely unhappy with how I look now. My anxiety and depression have been through the roof. I plan on getting this taken out very soon and trying another form of birth control. It is very sad considering I had so much faith in this option. But overall, every woman's body is different."

For Birth Control "Had the Liletta IUD in for 2 1/2 months, and just this week I started getting horrible anxiety, and my body is so, so tired and leaves my head foggy from the tiredness. My muscles felt like I just ran or worked out, horrible pain from period cramps where I couldn’t move. I started bleeding from insertion for about 3 weeks, and then it stopped. Now, ever since I got my period again, I’m still bleeding. I’m on my 10th day of bleeding, and I’m still bleeding. I feel hopeless, having nightmares, and I just don’t feel like myself anymore. Hopefully, this all goes away after I have this thing removed ASAP!!"

For Birth Control "So it's effective in terms of me not being pregnant, but I really don't like anything else about it. Constant cramping (4 years in), the insertion was so painful, and I am more depressed and anxious than I've ever been. I'm getting it removed next week because I've had enough, and I'm going back to the pill."

For Birth Control "It was awful. Constant pelvic pain, severe mood swings, little to no libido, discomfort during intercourse, depressive episodes, worsened anxiety. When my body rejected it, I suffered a hormonal crash that my Gyno denied being a thing. Never again would I ever consider an IUD."

For Birth Control "Got this IUD inserted February 2016, it's now July, still bleeding, very bad diarrhea, cramps, acne, weight gain, anxiety, and probably the WORST and most often migraines I've ever experienced in my life-like every other day I have bad headaches. Getting it removed this week, can't wait."

For Birth Control "I got the Liletta inserted at my 6 weeks after my baby was born (Feb. 2019). The insertion wasn't bad at all, but the cramping and constant bleeding for months afterward was annoying. I have had several bacterial infections causing me to have a very foul smell and needing to take several rounds of antibiotics. I gained a measly 15 lbs during pregnancy, which I lost right away until I had the IUD placed. I've now gained double that back, and it's not even been a full 3 months! I'm a raging person constantly, depressed, and have no sex drive, which is odd for me. I'm also anxious and get super worried about every little thing! I have had terrible pelvic pain, which the doctors chalked up to postpartum healing, but I don't think so! As of yesterday, my lovely Liletta string got wrapped around my tampon, and when removed, it came with it, so I guess I won't have an expensive doctor appointment to have the thing removed!"

For Birth Control "I am weary of medication, so I only took two Tylenol before the procedure. It was uncomfortable, with two quick, sharper pinches and over. I did get dizzy but was able to stand up, walk, and drive home afterwards. I planned on working the next day but had to stay home due to bad cramping... on par with a very bad period. I switched to Aleve from Tylenol, and that made all the difference. The cramping subsided over the next few days (I went on a long run on day 3), but skinny jeans bothered me a bit. Now, a month in, I got my first period/spotting episode. More anything else as it's lingering longer than usual. Overall, getting it so far was way worth it. Mood is great, no headaches, no anxiety, and no weight gain, and we can't feel it."

For Birth Control "I have now had the Liletta for 6 months and will be getting it removed in a few days. Since insertion, I have experienced a plethora of side effects: insomnia, cystic acne, anxiety, breast tenderness, weight gain, brain fog (I can't even remember what I had for breakfast), headaches, mood swings, hot flashes, and night sweats. It is just not worth it to me anymore. I have done some research on the Paraguard and have decided that I don't want to risk using it either. I will stick with condoms and planning around my cycle. My family doctor was reluctant to schedule my removal and claims that these side effects are not related to the IUD. I 100% disagree. Please do some research and some serious thinking before choosing this option. I look forward to getting my body back to normal, sounds like I will have a bit of an uncomfortable detox before that happens."

For Birth Control "Updated Review: I got Liletta inserted in Dec 2015 after being on problem-free (for me at least) NuvaRing for 9 years but wanted less estrogen in my BC. I’m 27 yo, 5’1”, approx 115 pounds, half marathoner. Pros: No weight gain, stopped periods. Cons: daily headaches, chronic yeast infections (11 months!), diagnosed with chronic migraines, severe anxiety, panic attacks, and brain fog so severe for over a month that doctors thought I was having seizures in my sleep/tumor/MS/etc., strings made for occasional painful sex for my SO. I saw my GP last week who is convinced Liletta has caused my issues. Had it removed 19 Jun 17, and I feel 100% better. No anxiety, panic attacks, brain fog, nothing. Took about 1.5 weeks to feel a difference."

"I got Liletta on October 1, 2019. After a week, I began having severe anxiety and nausea. I've been to the emergency room twice trying to figure out what's wrong with me. I never thought it could be the IUD until I tried to figure out what could be making me sick. Needless to say, I'm going to get it removed so I could have my life back."

For Birth Control "Got it 12/19/17. Very negative experience. I had a very heavy flow and very painful cramps, so went for Liletta. Insertion was SO painful. I continued to have cramps all day and for the next few days. Still have random cramps and spot EVERY DAY. Got BV, and spotting isn't always light, it can be very heavy. Used to have high libido: 3 weeks in, I LOST my sex drive. I RARELY get slithers of sexual desire, but they subside very quickly. Am in a new relationship, and I'm SO attracted to him, but still NO sex drive, and I used to orgasm very easily. It's harder now, and for the 1st time: vaginal dryness, extreme mood swings, and depression. Broke down 3 weeks in. Everything overwhelming, most emotional I have ever been. I have a mass increase in anxiety. Beware if you are prone to mental health issues. Constant headaches, and the 1st time I got my period on the IUD could NOT move = cramp pain. Gained 10 lb the 1st month, caused stretch marks for 1st time. Tomorrow I am finally getting it out. Will update y'all. Pros: Not pregnant."

For Birth Control "It caused nothing but trouble for me. Loss of sex drive, a mass increase in anxiety and sleep problems, nervousness, headaches, constantly tired, it would hurt randomly. It made PMS absolutely horrendous. I tried keeping it for as long as I could, but 3 months was my breaking point because I just kept feeling lousier. Within a week of having it removed, I felt way better. I had periods while I had it, and the first period after having it removed was horrible. It was the equivalent of hemorrhaging to where I'd get light-headed and jittery. The only plus was I didn't get pregnant while I had it, so it did its job. Insertion and removal didn't hurt at all except maybe a couple twinges."

For Birth Control "I had the Mirena for 5 years, with no issues at all. My OB suggested Liletta, said it would be the same as the Mirena… It has not been the same. Insertion was painful, but that’s to be expected. Every month for the last year, I go through the same mental breakdown, I am still having periods/spotting, my anxiety levels are through the roof, and I have acne breakouts like never before. I used to be a happy/bubbly person and now I am not. It’s affecting my work/personal life and most of all, my confidence in my relationship. I never had these issues before. I scheduled an appointment with my OB for removal. I do give a 10/10 for effectiveness as it effectively dropped my libido, so definitely no risk for pregnancy."

For Birth Control "Liletta is still pretty much new. Just to give a little history, I had the Mirena installed twice; meaning I maxed one out and got my second Mirena installed and maxed that one out too. Since I was informed that the Mirena no longer is being made, the next best thing similar to the Mirena was the Liletta. The Liletta was good for 3 years instead of the 5 years like the Mirena. Anyhow, when I got the Mirena placed, I developed anxiety along with being irritable and angry, but since having the Liletta placed, those symptoms have been 60 times worse. The anxiety has shot through the roof, the anger is much worse, the agitation is much worse, and there seems to be this brain fog. The brain fog is so severe that trying to remember what I did the day before is very difficult. So I had it removed and am awaiting my body to fully detox from years of hormones. Awaiting my next appointment to have Paragard birth control placed."

For Birth Control "I've had the Liletta for 9 months and have gained 50 lbs. Other than weight gain, I have had no issues. My husband, however, hates the “string.” It's not a sting like the doctor tells you. It is a wire. It gave me anxiety to even feel it when I checked it, so I just leave it alone. I'm having it removed in a few days because I can not deal with this weight gain."

For Birth Control "I had a history of very heavy periods, and a coworker suggested an IUD as birth control because it helped her periods (she didn't have one at all!). Insertion was very painful for a short period of time. I delivered 2 babies without pain medication, and I'd say it was equivalent to a very strong contraction for about 1 minute. After insertion, I had irregular spotting for a month or so. I was hoping for a lighter period since mine was making me anemic. My period stayed the same! The IUD strings poked my husband during sex too. They trimmed them, but it still happens. In one year, I've gained 15 lbs, have worse anxiety and depression, and my skin is terrible. I'm getting it out soon and getting a uterine ablation and my tubes tied."

For Birth Control "The insertion (12/30/2020) was probably the most traumatic experience of my life, I passed out afterward due to the pain and meds my doctor gave me. Four months in and I’m still getting excruciating cramps every day. They are severe to the point of taking my breath away or even vomiting. Plus, constant nausea just like morning sickness but all day. My eczema has returned on my scalp and hands/feet, with my prescription medicine no longer working. I also experience severe anxiety now. I have absolutely no sex drive anymore. I’m developing painful cystic acne on my chin, jawline, and forehead. I’m meeting with a new doctor next week for a second opinion on my reproductive health, as my current doctor has listened to none of my concerns and tells me that they’ve heard no complaints from their other patients about the Liletta. This forum obviously proves otherwise! The only positive to this IUD is that it prevents pregnancy but, at this point, I wouldn’t be surprised if it didn’t."

For Birth Control "I had Liletta inserted after 3 years of being on Depo. Insertion was painful but not too bad, caused some mild cramping for a few days. All was fine for the first few months until I saw a rapid decline in my mental health. My anxiety is terrible as it is, but Liletta made everything worse by causing countless physical symptoms. My back hurts 24/7, headaches, spotting that doesn’t go away, long periods, cramps, bloating, and that’s just a few. Not to mention the strings have gotten lost in my cervix and into my uterus, causing me to have to get ultrasounds to check if it’s in place. I’m not myself anymore, I'm so moody and have lost my sex drive too. I’m getting it taken out and going back on Depo. It’s definitely not for everybody. At least I didn’t get pregnant."

For Birth Control "I've had the Liletta IUD for a year and a half. I'm being dramatic, but it feels like it has ruined my sense of self and me overall. They say weight gain is not a part of the side effects, but you'll feel incredibly bloated all the time. Then you'll be too depressed and chronically anxious to work out or do anything. It also, for me, caused rapid mood swings and cravings that I've never experienced. Prior to my IUD, I was 120 lb, now I'm reaching 160 lb, despite staying active and eating healthy. I can't shed the weight. I feel pregnant even though I'm not. Swollen ankles, bloated, moody, chronically anxious ALL the time, and the worst body and facial acne that I've never had to deal with before. It caused these crazy cystic zits, despite me trying everything to keep it at bay. Needless to say, this has been a living nightmare, and I'm throwing a party after I get it removed. It's an official divorce party from the nightmarish IUD."

For Birth Control "I have had two Mirenas and loved them. I thought I was getting a third until it was dropped on me after I was on the table, gowned. I cannot stress enough how horrible this product is! The anxiety, depression, and rage are unbearable. You won’t recognize yourself. The insertion was more painful than an endometrial biopsy. I would not recommend this IUD to my worst enemy."

For Birth Control "I have had this IUD for a few weeks. I've always struggled with weight gain with hormones. I can't take estrogen. On the Depo, I gained 30 pounds in 3 months. Then I tried the Paragard, no weight gain, but excruciating pain every day for the year I had it in (suspecting an allergy). Then I tried Nexplanon, thinking it was less hormones, lots of people like it. Gained that same 30 pounds back, but over 8 months instead of 3 before I discontinued. I also had awful anxiety and no sex drive. That said, besides cramping, I've had zero side effects so far with Liletta. No weight gain, no anxiety, normal libido. And for those who don't know, there are several chemically different progestins. Maybe one works for you, another doesn't. Do your research."
