Lactaid Fast Act (lactase) for Lactose Intolerance "I took 2-3 lactaid tablets yesterday and have severe stomach pains. This happened 2 months ago and I had to undergo two weeks of antibiotics to treat an h. pylori infection. Going for another h. pylori breath test today. Lactaid may disrupt stomach flora."

For Lactose Intolerance "After giving my son this pill, and sending him off to school, we received a call within 2 hours that he was throwing up with chills! His body temp dropped. After vomiting within a few hours he was ok, we didn’t put two and two together until tonight. Prior to eating we gave him the pill again, and sure enough two hours later he is vomiting and extremely nauseas. We did a search on the pills and are shocked to see so many other people dealing with the same symptoms. My wife actually said one of the ingredients is another name for formaldehyde! I don’t know how this stuff is on the shelf and I’m extremely upset over it! Something needs to be done to stop them from continuing to sell this and cause harm to others!"

For Lactose Intolerance "I drank coffee with cream and sugar and I’m a lactose intolerant person. I felt bloated, constipation, and felt pain in my stomach. It was time to eat a lactaid pill. I ate two and got even more sick. I had diarrhea all evening and stomach was in pain. I was thinking what if I didn’t take the pill and just let it run it’s course. It’s good to know there are others out there that have issues with the pill leaving me not alone."

For Lactose Intolerance "I used the lactaid chewable tablets for a good two weeks. Everything was fine until a few days ago when I took it and got extremely sick, sicker than I've actually ever been in awhile. I had uncontrollable diarrhea for 2 days, horrible nausea, couldn't eat ANYTHING besides cereal without instantly triggering the diarrhea and insane nausea. I've now gone three days without taking this and I'm feeling significantly better. These symptoms are worse than what I get by just eating dairy on it's own, so I guess I'll just take my chances with that. This product needs to be recalled."

For Lactose Intolerance "I usually take the Equate brand of Lactaid (usually 2 pills depending on amount of dairy I'm going to eat with first bite of said dairy) and I had very little to no problems when taking it but I bought the name brand Lactaid and did the same thing when taking the pills yet I've been sick for 3 days with bloating, gas and diarrhea. My rating reflects the use of the name brand Lactaid not the Equate version."

Lactaid (lactase) for Lactose Intolerance "I find Lactaid pills original work very well for me taken as directed, 3 at a time with first bite. I have extreme lactose intolerance that causes vomiting diarrhea. But Lactaid prevents those effects completely. No side effects."

Colief (lactase) "I feel this had a harmful impact on my child, who was perfectly healthy at birth and then went on to become sick and unhealthy over a period gaining a large amount of weight and then being diagnosed with a tumor and fluid buildup on the brain, I often wonder. Still, my gut instinct tells me that this was the cause, although I will never know for sure. I would advise you to try absolutely anything and avoid using this!"

For Lactose Intolerance "Like others, I had a horrible experience. First couple of times it was fine. But the last two times have been terrible. I vomited everything up, had aches and pains, almost passed out. I’m so glad I realised what it was the second time and will never use again. I’m annoyed that this info isn’t more widely spread as I would never have used it if I’d known this."

For Lactose Intolerance "After getting covid I noticed foods high in dairy would give me more diarrhea than usual, so my doctor suggested trying lactase. It helped a few times and I thought all was well, until one night I was on the toilet for 3 hours. I thought it was just some unusually bad tacos as it felt like food poisoning. The next day, same issue, I thought it was aftershocks or my milk had gone bad. About a week later I was feeling better and took some with pizza, and it all happened AGAIN. Writing this from the bathroom. Wish I had done more research. I don't get how a simple enzyme can cause this but I think my soul has left my body. AVOID."

For Lactose Intolerance "Do not take lactaid. When I first ordered it I was really hoping I had found the cure to my lactose intolerance but after using it a few times and feeling bad both times and ultimately puking my guts out today I have learned this drug doesn't work. Don’t waste your money on it."

For Lactose Intolerance "Violently ill each time I've tried it. Takes about 2 hours, then severe nausea kicks in. And then the projectile vomiting, along with explosive diarrhea - at the same time! Spent hours on the toilet with a puke bucket in my lap. Terrible stomach pains, chills, weakness too. Awful awful. Trashing the rest of the box."

For Lactose Intolerance "After a few episodes of projectile vomiting on my way home from having a few cheese curds and a lactaid pill, its safe to say I will never take this drug again. So glad and also upset to have found all the other reviews that are so similar! The first few times I took it, there were no side effects. This third and final time was by far the worst!!"

Lactaid (lactase) for Lactose Intolerance "I have a mild lactose intolerance. I had a cheeseburger a few days ago which usually only gives me a small stomachache, but about 15 minutes after taking this I had a MASSIVE one. The next day I thought that maybe it didn’t work because I chewed it. So I tried it again with some yogurt (which gives me a pretty bad stomachache but not crazy) and once again, MASSIVE stomachache. DO NOT TAKE THIS!"

For Lactose Intolerance "I’ve been trying these out for a change because I missed eating cheese. It seems to have worked well so I have been taking them for about 2 days straight (about 2-3 each time). I’ve been getting small bouts of nausea. I’m writing this because I just ate another one with a pizza and all of a sudden I felt a strong wave of nausea come onto me. Like I was going to throw up; and my stomach upset. I wanted to go to sleep so I grabbed a bucket. It is a weird sensation. And all day I feel like I have a stomach bug. I didn’t link anything until I googled lactaid and vomiting.. I’m disappointed"

For Lactose Intolerance "I've used lactase enzyme since 1993, 30 years, initially in liquid drop form that was added to food or used to reduce lactose in milk overnight. Drops are no longer available in the States, but the pill/caplets are. I've never reacted adversely to them, but it did take some adjustment of dosage to accommodate my severe lactose intolerance. I'd noticed some reduced effectiveness over the past few years only to realize the Lactaid brand I was buying wasn't the Extra Strength I'd previously used. I've given these to friends and family members over the years for either suspected/known lactose intolerance or during GI viral illness, and none have ever had bad reactions. What's interesting is reading about the severe N/V/D experienced by so many here from lactase, which is not mentioned in any literature by NIH, Mayo Clinic, or Cleveland Clinic. N/V/D are well-known to be symptoms of lactose intolerance. Very strange. I hope more studies are done to investigate this phenomenon."

"Ate a bowl of cereal, with about a 1/2 cup of Lucerne whole milk and was nauseous, weak and had severe body aches (primarily along the spinal column) within 10 minutes of finishing. Read the label, (my roommate bought it because it didn’t have carrageenan in it - my body does not like carrageenan either) and it contains “lactase enzyme*” *an ingredient not found in regular milk. Something new to avoid. "

For Lactose Intolerance "I have lactose intolerance. I love ice cream, but it gives me diarrhea. Eating cereal in milk gives me lots of gas, for about 12 hours. I tried the Kroger brand of lactase pills, twice. Both times I had incessant vomiting and diarrhea. The only reason I tried it a second time is that I thought the gastrointestinal problem must have been caused by something else. Next I tried Lactaid while eating ice cream, thinking that another brand might produce different results. No!, It was every bit as bad. Interestingly, I can drink Kroger's Lactose Free milk, which contains lactase, with no symptoms. Interestingly, I can eat cheese and yogurt and not have any symptoms, which is good because I also love pizza and the convenience and nutrition of Greek yogurt. I tried Breyer's Lactose Free Ice Cream. No vomiting, but lots of diarrhea and gas, just as though it was regular ice cream."

For Lactose Intolerance "Bought these for my daughter. First few days she thought they were great. Then every time she went to her boyfriends place (big dairy loving family) she would call to come home because she was vomiting. Took us a month to figure out it was these pills. She just avoids dairy now and finds other alternate "milks" and ice creams."

For Lactose Intolerance "My son is 10 years old and we have suspected a lactose intolerance for a few years and confirmed it this year. We tried this 3 times and every time he ended up vomiting. :( The 1st time I thought he had a stomach virus and dismissed the correlation with him trying lactase. He can tolerate very small amounts of dairy it seems without major issues. Maybe this is why the enzyme doesn't seem to work for him if he's able to break down small amount?"

For Lactose Intolerance "I had a problem with name brand Lactaid if I took it more than once a day. Then I read the ingredients. It contains Maltitol. That gives me bloating, gut pain and terrible gas. However, Equate has a type that doesn't taste good, but has no Maltitol and it works fine. I can take it several times a day and it doesn't bother me. Puritan's Pride also has one that you do not chew without Maltitol. I know that any of the "ol" artificial sweeteners have the effect of bloating, gut pain and terrible gas."

For Lactose Intolerance "I've been lactose intolerant since my early 20s. I used to take lactase back then, and thought it just didn't work well for me. Then one day I took some and ended up vomiting up the ice cream I ate. I figured my intolerance was just that bad and I've avoided dairy entirely, since. Recently, I ordered dairy free dip and my shopper accidentally grabbed the wrong one. I eat cheese with no issues and thought, maybe I'll get some lactase and try with this, so it doesn't go to waste. I took 2, ate some dip and felt bloated and nauseous after. I thought, maybe I just need to take more next time. Horrible mistake. It's a few days later. I took 4 and ate some dip and I've been violently ill since. Vomiting, cramping, nausea, diarrhea...I've not been this sick in years. I will never touch lactase again."

For Lactose Intolerance "Like others, I wish I’d seen these comments earlier. I’m new to lactose intolerance, but nobody mentioned the treatment could be worse! So yeah, I had ALL the experiences above twice in the last week (have had a COVID test today as a result) & the only thing that lines up is the use of this drug to counteract dairy! Vomiting, diarrhea;), chills, sweats, legs went out from under me, the works!! Convinced I had food poisoning the first time, the second time (today) figured it HAD to be COVID… until I saw these comments. Thanks everyone for baring your souls & sharing your horrors so that I don’t feel alone ♥️"

For Lactose Intolerance "I have NEVER had such a violent reaction to anything in my life as I had when taking these. Uncontrollable vomiting and diarrhea within 45 minutes of taking 2 tablets. Unfortunately I was in a car and had no access to a washroom. It was terrible to say the least. My advice if you want to try them is to take only one tablet before eating dairy and be in the comfort of your own home! I learned my lesson the hard way, and will be trying lactose free dairy products in the future."

Lactaid Extra Strength (lactase) for Lactose Intolerance "In the 20 years I’ve been with my husband he has never vomited once. He tried Lactaid to help curb other stomach issues with dairy. Used it twice and was fine. The third time he tried them before a slice of plain quesadilla and projectile vomited all over a hotel bathroom and was ill/sore for DAYS. We thought it was food poisoning until he tried them again and same thing, needed to vomit, gas, bloating, diarrhea. Horrible, these should come with a warning."
