For Type 2 Diabetes "I am a type 2 diabetic. First, I was taking Lantus after being diagnosed in June last year. Due to my insurance, I was switched to Basaglar. So far, I haven't had any problems at all. This medicine has helped me a lot to drop my A1C. Keep in mind this is coming from someone who was in the ICU because my sugar was so high."

For Diabetes, Type 1 "My insurance made me switch from Lantus. I am still trying to gauge how closely 1 unit of Basaglar = 1 unit of Lantus, but I have other issues with the pen. For one thing, the numbers are really hard to read. Lantus numbers were very dark and easy to see. I also don't like the silence with the injection. It clicked on Lantus, and I could hear it was going in. The worst thing is that with the start of every new pen, it hiccups and then engages, so I don't get a full dose. I will start pushing out some of the insulin first and then start over from now on."

For Type 2 Diabetes "As with other patients, the insurance company forced me to use Basaglar in lieu of Lantus. Side effects are dangerous. Started having sleepless nights, painful swollen legs, and body aches. Called my doctor, and he has switched me to Tresiba. My question is why does the insurance company risk our lives to save a few dollars when they are boasting about making money every year? This is a horrible medication."

For Diabetes, Type 1 "I’m a 40-year brittle insulin-dependent diabetic on a sliding scale. Been using the Basaglar pen since 2018. Had no problem besides the pen itself, until the past week. I’ve had to double my Novolog for each meal and had to increase my Basaglar by three units. Don’t know what’s going on? Control number D210703A, Exp. Date 04/2022, Serial No. 007881921625. Anyone else having the same problem? Love to hear from you. Thanks...."

For Diabetes, Type 1 "Since using this insulin, I cannot bring my BS down with my R insulin. I am on a diet of less than 20 total carbs per day and did not previously have this problem. I dosed 6 units of Basaglar last night, and I have had to take 4 injections today of 20 units each, my sugar will not stay down. There is something very wrong with this Basaglar 'insulin,' and this will be looked into."

For Type 2 Diabetes "Using Basaglar for about a month now and getting good results. Levels are in normal range at 12 units, but I have side effects of ringing in my ears all day, but worse at night after injection. Also, a dull headache and some shoulder pain that's not too bad yet. As dosage increased, ringing gets louder. However, it does work for me, and my insurance only covers this brand. Since I have only been on it a short time, I will have to wait and see if side effects get better or worse."

For Type 2 Diabetes "Was made to take Basaglar by Walmart. Took Basaglar for one day and blood glucose levels (BGL) went up from 140 to 280. Started taking more Humalog to offset the highs. After one month on Basaglar, started having 550 BGL. Increased units from 88 Lantus to 110 units Basaglar and no change. After 3 months, started getting numbness in both feet. Never in my 25 years on Lantus have I ever had anything over 300s. Finally got the doctor to write a letter to the insurance company and got Lantus back, and levels went back to my normal levels. I took my 88 units once a day down from my final high of 118 of Basaglar. Basaglar is a zero, being water would do the same as it did. Thanks to the Lantus company for their card or I would be dead by now. Went to Walmart and was going to pay 280 dollars a month for Lantus when Basaglar was 30 a month copay. I was then told about the Lantus card and received Lantus free for a while."

For Type 2 Diabetes "After reading many of the reviews about this insulin and experiencing some of the same side effects, I have come to learn Basaglar KwikPen is not the insulin I need. Blood sugar remains high, and my feet and ankles are swelling up. Ankle pain is getting intense at times."

For Type 2 Diabetes "Seems almost everyone was switched off insulin that works to Basaglar in 2016. I take 90 per day in addition to 1000 metformin twice a day and fast-acting up to 3x a day. When I started Basaglar, it seemed to work. It gradually started being less effective, it is now like I am using water. My mornings were running up to 90, they now run up to 200. In 2021, I started itching on all the soft parts of my skin, shoulder pains, fatigue, sleeping issues, and weight gain. I have discussed issues with my doctor, he doesn't feel that Basaglar is the issue. I go to see him in a month, it's time to demand a change."

For Diabetes, Type 1 "My experience with Basaglar will affect me for the rest of my life, and not in a good way. Of course, I doubt there is a doctor that will say results are due to this horrible 'biosimilar' creation, but I developed heart failure from Basaglar. All started when I went to see a doctor in an area I had just moved to. Without any discussion or notification, they put me on Basaglar, no change in the number of units that I needed to take. I was on it for a month before I started to feel my worst. Then I looked closer at the medication and realized it was not Lantus, which I had been taking for years. I gained 40 pounds. I could not sleep in my bed anymore because I couldn't breathe. My feet were swollen drastically. I could not make it up 13 steps without having to stop multiple times because I could not breathe. I was a very active person before all of this. After multiple trips to the doctor and a change in doctors, they found that my ejection fraction was 15%. Normal is 55-75%."

For Type 2 Diabetes "The new Basaglar quick pens are very difficult to use. I am plenty strong enough, and I barely have enough force to get the new twisty plunger back in. I am bending the needle, etc. It is not a safe situation?"

For Type 2 Diabetes "I have had trouble with Basaglar since my first use. There always are air bubbles in it. Before each use, I click 2 to relieve the bubbles so I do not feel that I am getting 100 units per pen as advertised. The first dose does not flow from the pen correctly. I have called Lilly on numerous occasions and have received no satisfaction from their customer service. I'm done with Basaglar. There are many other insulin products."

"I was switched from Levemir to Basaglar because my skin was reacting to the Levemir. I got giant hives that were itchy. Basaglar is working better for me in terms of lowering my fasting sugar levels. However, the pen is much harder to use than the Levemir pen, especially if you inject yourself. Horrible design. And the injection site hurts for a little bit afterward. Not sure if that is from the pen itself or the medication, but I did not have these problems with the Levemir injection pens."

For Diabetes, Type 1 "So I have been on Basaglar for 2 months, and as far as the effectiveness of the insulin, it isn’t the best, but it isn’t terrible either. What is the true downfall of Basaglar is the injecting mechanism. For example, Tresiba has a mechanism that helps push the insulin out of the pen into your body. Basaglar is completely manual, and you must push on the pen forcefully to get the dose out. It may not seem like a big deal, but if you have been a diabetic for years, you’ll realize that you might need extra help from your pen to push that insulin past all the scar tissue. In closing, the main reason I wrote this was because I just did a dose, and no less than 1/4 of the dose was wasted because the pen mechanism is an absolute abomination. Other than that, it’s okay."

For Diabetes, Type 1 "Due to a shortage of Lantus, I had to get Basaglar as a replacement. 3 days in and it is awful. My sugars go up at night (alarm on my phone), so I took 2 units of Apidra. 2 hours later, I'm at 2.9. Alarms again. The pen is awful, it doesn't 'click' when you inject, so I can't count the units I'm actually getting. No comparison to Lantus. I absolutely can't stand this stuff. Stay away from the cheap stuff is all I can say."

For Type 2 Diabetes "About the same results as on Lantus, although Basaglar is cheaper and makes my copay cheaper as well. Aches and pains go along with insulin trying to get your muscles to accept glucose, which is the main reason for the treatment. My only side effect is a tired feeling sometimes. I cannot comment on the dosage accuracy because I have no way to measure this. I have to assume because my fasting numbers are pretty stable the dose must be accurate. If you add carbs certain days, because this is long-acting insulin, it's going to affect you days after. This Basaglar seems comparable to Lantus in how it works and the results I get. I will stick with it because it saves me money with little negative effect."

For Diabetes, Type 1 "I have been a Type 1 diabetic for 43 years and have been using Basaglar in conjunction with Humalog for the past 3 years, and it works perfectly. My A1C has consistently been around 6.5. My use of Basaglar has been to set a baseline for 24 hours. I take the Humalog prior to eating. My lows can always be traced to not having enough carbs to counteract the insulin. For those experiencing problems, please talk with your physician and see if there needs to be dosing changes."

For Type 2 Diabetes "I've had two pins from the same box malfunction, and it's considered the dial. I called the company, and they were no use or help at all. If this keeps on, I'm going to have to have my doctor switch me to another insulin because this is unreliable."

For Type 2 Diabetes "I was on Victoza 1.2 dose, and my type 2 diabetes was well controlled. Had a flare-up of hemorrhoids, and the cream caused a blood sugar spike. After three weeks and the hemorrhoids still an issue, my doctor added Basaglar 40 units. My sugar went higher, I was nauseated, severe fatigue, and depression. Took it for three months, and no improvement, in fact, most BG readings are much worse than before Basaglar. Talking to my doctor soon and dropping the Basaglar. Just did not work for me and made me feel much worse."

For Diabetes, Type 1 "I am a type 1 diabetic who was taking Lantus for years with an average A1C of 6.8 to 7.4. Insurance switched me to Levemir, which faded after 20 hours and increased my A1C to the high sevens. Then, I tried Basaglar in spite of all the bad reviews it got. Well, don't believe everything you read! This stuff is even better than Lantus! My A1C dropped from 7.9 to 7.3 the last 3 months, which still included about 1 month that I had still been taking Levemir. I feel great! Thank you, Lilly!"

For Diabetes, Type 1 "Worse insulin ever used! Basaglar is very unstable & won't hold glucose steady. Glucose roller coaster from 30-489, forced to keep glucose higher because of instability & lows that last for hours directly after dosage. Since learning of $35 monthly cap on insulin, I am planning on returning to Lantus, which I must purchase without insurance. Half the time Basaglar will not work. Learned it is a 'follow-on' insulin, in other words, experimental! Even Humulin N works better!"

For Type 2 Diabetes "I was on Lantus for 2+ years, and it had worked well. I was switched to Basaglar due to insurance no longer approving coverage for Lantus. Since switching, my blood glucose is higher than it was when on Lantus, plus having issues such as stomach pain, leg cramps, insomnia, tinnitus, headaches, etc. The Basaglar pens are often faulty and don't dispense the correct dose. I've already called the manufacturer twice with pen issues, and all they do is go through troubleshooting, then tell me the pen is okay to use. The dial does not feel right when I dial the dose, and I've even physically marked the pens, and I can tell it's not always dispensing the correct dose. I know how long a pen should last, and I'm still using the pens with the Basaglar 2-3 days after my pen should be used up. I'm going to beg my doctor tomorrow to help me get my insurance to put me back on Lantus. Not only does the Basaglar pen not work right, the drug itself is NOT equal to Lantus, no matter what the manufacturer says."

For Type 2 Diabetes "Basaglar is garbage. A placebo, which has absolutely no effect on blood sugar. Doc wanted to switch me from Novolin 70/30, but I find this has no effect. None. This should be illegal."

For Diabetes, Type 1 "Type 1 diabetic for 59 years. I have been on every insulin ever made over the years. Insurance switched me from Lantus, which worked very well for me. Basaglar is a poorly manufactured product - constant air bubbles in pens (which require wasted insulin as I tap and release trying to get rid of them). Have to be careful dialing up doses as it doesn't seem to deliver correct amounts. Have constant lows in the mornings and a strange drop around 10:30 at night. I have a G-6 which alerts me to this nonsense. I have found that I am developing a bulge on my left thigh. I don't think the insulin is absorbing properly. I had switched to injecting on the left thigh (side)."
