"I've been taking Tamsulosin 0.4 mg for 4+ years. Urine is from okay to not much, drip, stop, start, etc. After reading these reviews, I'm glad I didn't start taking finasteride 5 mg yet, my doctor prescribed it to me last month, because I got home, looked it up, and saw it was off-label for prostate, meant for hair growth. I'm 60, would love the hair, but I told my doctor I'm not taking it. He didn't tell me it was for hair. He said with surgery, the main risk is blood clots. How it works, he said finasteride will start working in a few months, 3-4 months, and once you start, if you stop taking it, it will reverse and stop working. Not for me. Glad I read reviews, I was looking for good to outweigh bad so I could take. Never!"

"Have been taking finasteride for a couple of years in conjunction with tamsulosin. Tamsulosin prescribed for BPH. Finasteride for BPH and enlarged prostate. Painful urination 95% decreased with tamsulosin. Having issues with ED. Semen down to nil. Libido decreased. Not sure what age has to do with issues since I am 77, but after reading the reviews, I will back off finasteride and see what happens."

"Been using finasteride for 3 months after being diagnosed with a high level of PSI (7.3) and a biopsy procedure, but no cancer cells were found. Urinating was difficult in the morning, and I very often had to go out at night 3 to 4 times sometimes, and every 30 minutes when doing extended walking. Urinating has become normal again, but mostly when standing. Sitting is less good. Sexual drive is maybe slightly less, but all is still working well once underway; however, less ejaculation fluid. I hope the PSI will be lower soon; otherwise, surgery is to be considered. (59 yrs). General condition hard to grasp, as profound jet lag is a major issue in my life."

Finasteride, used for treating male pattern baldness and benign prostatic hyperplasia, carries a U.S. Food and Drug Administration (.gov) black box warning due to the potential increased risk of high-grade prostate cancer. "Have been on this medication for many years (10). For the last 5 years have been trying to discover why my fingers/feet are numb/tingly. Pins like they fell asleep and are also painful. Went to so many doctors regarding the pain when waking/asleep in my hands. From carpal tunnel to diabetes. I then found that finasteride had this side effect. Will try and wean off of it, although it does help with the constant feeling of urinating. Will try tamsulosin as a replacement for this issue."

"I have been using this drug (finasteride 5 mg) on a daily basis for 18 years following a rectal examination for prostate problems. This was prescribed together with a daily dose of tamsulosin hydrochloride 400 mcg. After moving to a different health authority district, I was placed on a list for a prostate operation. The operating consultant examined me 2 days before the op and said the prostate was barely enlarged and no operation was worthwhile at this stage - further examinations in store. Does this mean the combination of drugs long term has resolved my prostate problem or has there been a misdiagnosis? Time will tell. (btw I have a definite 'monk's pate hair pattern.)"

Finasteride "Side effects: sexual reluctance (after a few weeks I felt like having sex again, but not every day as before, but max. 1x per week (if necessary, I take Cialis or Viagra, which, however, do not increase sexual desire, but only the erection). I also take it as an off-label use against hair loss, because I have a receding hairline. I had read that Proscar against hair loss only notices a positive effect after a very long period of time (after half a year?). Maybe I'll take minoxidil for external use! You have to take it permanently, if Proscar is discontinued, the symptoms of BPH begin again (benign prostatic hyperplasia and hair loss!)."
