Exenatide for Type 2 Diabetes "I have been on this medication for 5 months. I have lost 20 lbs. I have experienced SERIOUS heartburn to the point of it waking me up from my throat burning. I still crave sweets towards the end of my shot wearing out for the week, but I continued to lose weight despite eating sweets. My doctor reported my sugars were high both times after testing A1C (somewhere in the 6.0 to 6.3 range). I have started wanting to throw up a couple of days after my shot. Weird, this just started. I can no longer get free samples of this, so I will be switching to Farxiga. It is bittersweet having to go off of this medication. I have tried Victoza and Trulicity too. Trulicity equaled heartburn. Victoza had no symptoms but very little weight loss."

Exenatide for Type 2 Diabetes "This is my third week. I take the medication early Saturday mornings. A couple of hours later, I get sleepy and then start to feel really nauseous. On Sundays, I start to get tired and nauseated around 11 a.m. The rest of the week, I have on-and-off periods of nausea and have vomited a couple of times. I do feel like the periods of nausea are decreasing in duration and intensity. I hope that the side effects keep decreasing because I would really like to stay on the medication. My fasting sugars are anywhere from 110 to 130. This is a major drop for me!"

Exenatide for Type 2 Diabetes "I started taking Byetta 5 mg exactly 2 weeks ago. I've lost 5 lbs, and my blood glucose is in the 80's every morning instead of the 170-200 range. I have experienced a little nausea in the morning, but it goes away after I eat. I go back to the doc after New Year and plan to ask him to keep me on 5 mg instead of 10 mg."

Exenatide for Type 2 Diabetes "I switched to Byetta just over a week ago from Novorapid insulin after some weight gain. From the start, I have had some nausea, but nothing I couldn't handle, and I can't eat as much as I always seem full, so I am starting to lose weight already, so that is a positive. The negatives are that my levels are too high, and this is causing my vision to be blurry, and it is making it difficult for me to drive. Also, in the morning, I feel really lethargic, which makes it difficult to concentrate at work. I have also noticed my skin feels dry, especially my lips. I am due to go back to my specialist after 4 weeks, but I am not sure if I will continue. I am currently on Byetta 5 mcg morning and night and Lantus 20 units plus Metformin 1000 twice a day."

Exenatide for Type 2 Diabetes "I just took my 8th dose of Bydureon. I experience no real pain during injection, even though the needle is quite large. I used a bag of frozen peas to numb the site prior to injection. Then I keep a Band-Aid on the site to keep the medication from leaking out. I was on Toujeo insulin, 52 units, but as of last week, I have been able to stop taking it. I slowly did this. I do suffer from nausea consistently, low energy, and lethargy. I also have no appetite. As of the last two weeks, my blood glucose numbers have been good. I am taking the good with the bad."

Exenatide for Type 2 Diabetes "This med worked well for the first 6 weeks. I had lost about 20 lbs and liked that part. The next 4 or 5 shots didn't seem like it did anything. The lumps remained, though. After about a month off the drug, the lumps started to go away and the sulfur burps, stomach cramps, constipation, nausea, and intermittent diarrhea took over. I was sick for about 2 months as the lumps slowly dissolved. It took another 3 months before I felt normal again. I think the med didn't dissolve like it should have. Then it all released at once and made me sick. Also, the needle was HUGE and a pain to get ready. I switched to Trulicity lately and am having good results."

Exenatide for Type 2 Diabetes "I started this medication along with Januvia and have been taking Januvia once a day and Metformin twice a day. I am on my second week. Doing okay, but the injection sites are lumpy, red, painful, and itchy. My endocrinologist says this is normal and takes about six weeks for the lumps to disappear. I am using an ice pack to calm the itchiness and pain. Every now and then, I feel a little nauseous, but I drink ginger tea and I’m okay. Hope this all calms down with time. My BS numbers are good in the normal range."

Exenatide for Type 2 Diabetes "I have been on Bydureon for three weeks now. I take a weekly injection. Each time, so far, I have heartburn the day after injecting. The heartburn lessens a bit through the week. Also have periods of nausea, but these symptoms are very mild compared to Victoza. Victoza made me vomit, and I could not eat anything while I was taking it."

Exenatide for Type 2 Diabetes "I used Byetta just to lose weight in 2012. I lost 24 lbs then and really loved my size. After losing the weight, since I wasn't diabetic, I got off of it. So many months later, I started to gain the weight back. I decided to start back on it several times, but it didn't work with the weight loss. I'm back on it again for a month now, and I'm exercising with it, but hadn't dropped any weight. I'm on 10 mg. I don't have nausea, and when I did, it lasted only a couple of days. Anyone have any suggestions."

Exenatide for Type 2 Diabetes "Today was my first day on Byetta. I can't stand the nausea. Feel carsick, have a headache, and jittery. I am on 5 mcg hoping it gets better. I'm supposed to take my metformin and glyburide too, but sick. Not sure how I'm going to be able to work like this. If it doesn't get better in a day or two, I will talk to my Dr."

Exenatide for Type 2 Diabetes "I have taken Bydureon (exenatide) for a year, and it helps glucose levels for my type 2 diabetes, and Bydureon has worked for weight loss too. However, the side effects of exenatide are that I have started to have nausea and diarrhea after taking it, and I will seek out an alternative covered by insurance."

Exenatide for Type 2 Diabetes "Took my first injection on Friday night, along with 500 mg Metformin and Jardiance 25 mg in the morning. On Friday night and Saturday, I had severe cramps in my legs and hands. I couldn’t leave home. Sunday, I vomited after drinking a smoothie and felt nauseated after having my dinner. I soaked in Epsom salt and hydrated with alkaline water. The cramps got better, but I was still nauseated. Sipping on peppermint tea. Hope the nausea goes away, or I won’t be taking this again. I really want it to work for me, as I could benefit from the improved cholesterol and heart health, as well as reduced A1C. #praying"

Exenatide for Type 2 Diabetes "I have been on Byetta 5 mcg and Lantus for 3 months. I've had constant nausea, which varies in severity. I haven't had a reduction of BGL; they are still quite high. I am not at all sure whether both meds have really worked for me over the past 3 months, and my diabetic educator thinks the same, and my endocrinologist will most likely change my meds altogether next review. In one week, I'm going on 10 mcg. I hope that it works but I'm not holding my breath. I've never had the brilliant results that others on here have had. The nausea has never gone away, but the earlier dizziness did. Although it hasn't worked for me, I believe that it's worth trying. I did have hopes that it would work for me. There are other meds, and I will get my BGLs in a normal range and lower my HbA1c."

"I am a type 1 diabetic for 15 years. I went through ketoacidosis and was released from the hospital with blood sugars in the mid-400 range. My numbers before buried in would go to the mid-300s. I am 5 weeks into once per week Bydureon. The needle is very thick - you get used to that. There is some nausea, but mine usually goes away after a day and a half. I just developed the worst diarrhea and stomach pains for 2 days after eating in week 5 - I need to see if this is going to go away. The biggest benefit - my blood sugar levels have gotten down in the 100s and very rarely go above 150, let alone 200, and my high and low blood sugar rollercoaster is no more. Overall, I think I will tolerate the nausea and occasional diarrhea if my numbers are under control."

For Type 2 Diabetes "I have been using this medicine for 2 weeks so far for pre-diabetes. My insurance approved me for one year, and I only have to pay a $25 co-pay per month. So far, I have lost 10 pounds-5 pounds a week-and literally eat less than half of what I used to eat. I read all the reviews on here and followed tips from other users, such as taking the medicine out of the fridge the day before I use it, rubbing the area after I do the injection, and icing immediately after-no knots so far. Also, I take a prescription anti-nausea pill at night 30 minutes before I do the injection at bedtime. I wake up thirsty, but no more nausea. This medicine is a great alternative to weight-loss surgery. I am convinced the people who are getting sick may be overeating."

For Type 2 Diabetes "Recently started on Byetta, 57-year-old male. Weaned off insulin so I could take the exenatide. Must say I am impressed. Appetite has reduced, which is no bad thing. In my case, lost 6 lb in a fortnight. Readings have stabilized at 6.0 - 6.7 (UK). Restrictions on the driving have been lifted now I am off insulin, so I can return to work June 3rd. Been off due to a heart attack at Christmas, but fine now, two stents fitted. All in all, happy I am on Byetta, only side effect, slight nausea an hour after taking, but it passes after 10 mins."

Exenatide for Type 2 Diabetes "Started only two days now. I see numbers coming down from 16 to 8 last night, then 11 after fasting, so it's up and down. I feel tired and have no appetite, forcing myself to eat small meals. Let's talk again after a month. Nausea not unbearable. I realize I was feeling nausea before using Byetta anyways, so no real difference there. Feel shaky at times. Holding thumbs it works."

For Type 2 Diabetes "Injection day - So this stuff is supposed to bring my A1C number down (6.0) and my fasting glucose (95), plus I may lose weight, and it will control my PCOS symptoms. I was nauseous and very sleepy. Took a nap, went for a brisk walk around the neighborhood, and played with my kid. Nothing bad to report except that it hurts to eat anything more than half my fist size (and my hands are small). Day 2 - vomiting begins! I was violently hurling. Couldn't go to work and I kept passing out. Went to urgent care as it was a holiday and my PCP was not in. They tell me to take these nausea meds and if I keep throwing up, I need to go to the ER. Could not eat but a few bites of food the entire day. Rating it higher than 1 since I did lose weight - 7 lbs so far."
