"Started Annovera for the first time the first week of November. I’d been on the pill for 4 years prior and wanted something to help with migraines. I developed a pelvic infection (no STDs), failed outpatient antibiotic treatment, and had to be admitted to the hospital for IV antibiotics to get rid of the infection, and if it does not clear by my next follow-up, I will have to be sent to infectious disease to find what to do next. I don’t recommend this birth control. They aren’t sure why the infection was caused, but the timeline goes along with using the Annovera ring. It’s so new there isn’t enough data, and it causes pelvic infections."

"I’ve been using Annovera for birth control for 5 months now, and I’m switching when it’s time for removal due to all these side effects that I have had. No sex drive, anxiety and depression (that I’ve never had before), heavy bleeding during the 7-day removal, bleeding in between periods. I have had it fall out several times, back pain, and fatigue."

"I was on NuvaRing for about a year, and I LOVED IT. My insurance quit covering it randomly, and I swapped to Annovera. At first, I was a bit intimidated by the thickness of the ring compared to my NuvaRing, but after using it, it feels the same. It’s great so far! No side effects, and you only change it once a year!"

"So my experience with Annovera was great! I loved the freedom that it allowed and seemed like a step up from my previous experience with NuvaRing (5+ years). It was easy to insert and maintain. No thinking! Awesome! I had taken a break from my previous birth control (copper IUD, which I didn't like and that I had for several months). Initially, my chest swelled and was painful to the touch for a couple of months. That’s since gone away. My periods are predictable and light (2 days after removal). However, the depression that I’ve been experiencing has been so much I think I’m going to take it out. My sex drive is at zero. I’m not sure what’s up, but I’m not in a good place. Any and all hormone BC affect me this way. I think I paid $64 with my insurance coverage."

"This birth control has been a blessing. I’ve tried a few other options, and none of them worked for my lifestyle. I asked my doctor about this after seeing the commercials, and she wasn’t aware of its benefits but agreed to offer it to me if I followed up with her if I had any problems at all. Besides a day or two of feeling a bit off, I can say it’s been nothing but smooth sailing from there. The soft texture and easy to put in and out makes Annovera very appealing. You literally forget you have it in. Try it for yourself."

"Have been on the Annovera ring for about 8 months. Prior to having my first child almost 2 years ago, I had used the Nuvaring for 10 years. I really liked the Nuvaring; just hated having to go get my prescription refilled every month. At first, I really liked the Annovera ring; it's more bendable and softer than the Nuvaring. The last few months, I have noticed multiple side effects I never had with the Nuvaring: intense abdominal pain, hot flashes during period, weight gain, and intense cramping. I am going back to using the Nuvaring."

"I was really hopeful that this ring would work for me because I've tried three different pills and quit both because of slight nausea and mood swings, but this ring was worse than either pill. I inserted the ring at 4pm on a Monday. It was fine until I woke up at 2am on Tuesday with slight nausea. I couldn't fall asleep because the nausea started getting worse, and I began having chills. Got up again and took it out. Woke up at 6 am feeling hot and sweaty, nauseous, and threw up. I also had a headache. I forced myself to eat some cereal, which helped my stomach, but I spent the morning alternating between chills and hot/sweating. Took my temp because I thought I was coming down with something. It was very low at only 96.7. Started feeling better around 10 am; not sick feeling anymore, body temp back to normal, but having extreme mood swings. I know you are supposed to give a new birth control a few months to adjust to, but I can't imagine being this sick every day until I adjust."

"I switched from birth control pills to Annovera, and I love it! On the pills, I was having irregular periods in the middle of packs and having to take the tablet daily. I had awful acne, bloating, and was always irritable. On Annovera, my skin has cleared up so much it looks wonderful, it helps keep my period mild and actually shortened my cycle to 4 days! I have had little to no side effects (slight nausea the first month of use), and I don’t have to remember to take a daily pill. On top of that, I can leave it in for intercourse and not worry about using any backup method with my husband. I am very happy with Annovera and plan to keep using."

"I’ve been on Annovera for about six months now, and I have a mixed opinion. It is really easy to use, and it’s convenient for use, but I’ve been experiencing a lot of side effects: I get random cramps in between that feel a lot like period cramps, headaches from time to time (never really had them before), nausea, and the main thing is that it’s affected my mood a lot. I already had anxiety before, but it’s so intense now, I feel incredibly moody and sad a lot, and my sex drive has never been this low. Probably going to see it out for the rest of my year, but probably won’t take it for another year."

"0/10. I’m 18, and I was on Annovera for two months until this weekend when I got my period unexpectedly. Not just a normal period, but an EXTREMELY painful one. I was screaming, crying on the bathroom floor shortly before I passed a decidual cast… look it up. Worst four days of my entire life. With further research, I realized I’m not the only one who has had this same experience with Annovera."

"I started using this ring in November '20 and just took it out Feb '21. I don’t recommend using this birth control. This BC gave me multiple headaches/migraines, I was nauseous the first 2 days after inserting it in again and after I took it out. This BC also gave severe anxiety. Being someone in their 20s, I have anxiety already, but this BC took it to another level. I won’t be inserting this BC again because of these symptoms."

"I am 19, I've been on the pill multiple times and absolutely hated it. I had such a hard time remembering to take the pill and would have terrible breakthrough bleeding for months. I've had the Annovera ring in for 7 days and so far I absolutely love it. I can't feel it AT ALL, my boyfriend can't feel it during sex, and I have no serious side effects. The first two days, I did experience slight stomach aches but that went away so quickly. The only thing I've noticed is I am wetter during sex and a slight increase in discharge, but nothing major and nothing I feel worthy of complaint. Obviously, different birth controls are different for everyone but I highly recommend giving Annovera a try. Not having to take the pill every day is a GODSEND. I love Annovera so far, but if anything goes bad down the road, I will update my review."

"I was so excited to try Annovera, but when I saw how big the ring is, I almost lost my mind. I tried it though. Every time I pushed it inside me, it was sliding out... did not like this. I was walking, and I felt it was coming out of me."

"I have a bleeding disorder that makes my periods VERY heavy. I have used birth control to keep my periods short or so I can skip them. I spoke with my doctor about this, and she said I could leave it in for three months and then take it out for three days, then go back on. Well, right away, I had headaches, now, three months in, I have been spotting EVERY DAY for the past 52 days! I am done. No sex drive, feel angry, mad, and upset all the time. I'm ready to be done, but my doctor won't change it. I will be looking for a new doctor if she does not help me out at my appointment in five days! Worst birth control I've tried!"

"I have very heavy, short periods, and I was looking for something to lessen the flow or stop periods altogether. I'm very sensitive to the hormonal effects of systemic BC, so I was hopeful not to have that with the Annovera ring. The doctor told me to leave it in continuously to avoid periods. I didn't have mood effects that I could tell. I did have some bloating and slight weight gain. I was very happy the first 4-5 weeks with it-no period, no problems. But then I started bleeding through it. It didn't stop and was getting heavier, so after 3 days, I removed the ring, and dear God, I never thought I'd stop bleeding. Extremely heavy like before but lasted like 10 days. Massive clots coming out. And the cramps. I don't usually have cramps, but these were so painful. So I'm not going to use that again. Experiment over."

"It worked for me for about a year, no change in weight, my acne was worse while on it, unfortunately. The typical larger breasts and lighter, shorter periods. I did not experience nausea or any other symptom from this form of contraception like the pill did for me. Be wary, though, I was constantly getting BV and yeast infections, and I used water to clean my ring every time, like the instructions say when I removed it for my period. I am a nursing student, so I know how to wash my hands as well. Another issue is I did experience a birth control failure with my second ring and became pregnant after 7 months of use on that ring. Now I know this is a low percentage and can always happen, but I assure you I tracked my ring with the app and it did, in fact, fail."

"Used Jan. 2020-May 2022, Sept. 2022- Takeaway: So easy to use and stop using that I’d recommend it. Just monitor your mental health over the first months. My biggest symptom has been increased anxiety, but it’s hard to tell how much is due to this med. With this med as one of many possible factors, I developed OCD-like levels of preoccupation and fear three months after starting. Other Effects: - Felt mildly fatigued and achy for the first few days, like I had a stomach bug, and was slightly nauseous and sensitive to certain foods. - Period lightened, shortened, and became even more predictable. Cramps became milder. - Thick clear or whitish discharge. I often had to wear liners or swap underwear midday. Hasn’t happened the second time around yet. - Possible increase in screen headache sensitivity (hard to prove). - Decrease in libido and possible decrease in attraction to then-partner (could’ve been natural). - Skipping 2+ periods caused bleeding and darkened ring."

"It woke me up from nausea in the middle of the night and made me throw up at 4 a.m. Not fun. Supposedly, only 5% of people have side effects like this. I have no noticeable side effects from the pill, so this was a shock to me. I also had trouble getting it in place. I don’t feel like I could ever get it to fit how it was supposed to."

"I am two weeks into using this birth control. The only downside is that I will have random chin hairs growing as my body adjusts to the hormone. I will have occasional cramps, but my period kind is severe, so this type of cramping is a minor annoyance. My mood was actually affected. I suffer from anxiety and depression. Using this birth control has taken it away. I was on Prozac and all the antidepressants, and none of them worked. This is a great new birth control. I have energy. My sleep is amazing compared to without it, where I used to have choppy sleep. I used to have random uterus pain and a high sex drive (it’s not that great when you’re religious and single and constantly having to distract yourself), and now the pains have stopped and my sex drive is low (sounds horrible, but it’s a blessing for my lifestyle). I haven’t had any yeast infections. I had one headache. I haven’t had any spotting or any terrible side effect. This helps with my severe PMDD periods."

"I have been on the birth control for 2 weeks now. I have had no problems so far. It’s the perfect birth control for me because I didn’t like taking the pill every day. I would forget. And it made me nauseous. With this birth control, I have no side effects. Before I decided to get on this BC, I read all the reviews. I have not experienced any stomach pains. My sex drive actually went up. No nausea or vomiting. I can’t even feel it. I forget I’m even on birth control. So everybody’s body is different. Just because someone went through something doesn’t mean it will happen to you. It was easy to insert and remove. I love this BC!"

"I started Annovera because I had been on Nuvaring (which I love!) for over 10 years, but after I joined the military, I needed something more readily available than just a 3-month dose of birth control, and I had such horrible experiences with different IUDs. I have been on deployment for 6 months and have put on 25 lbs! I know they advertise that weight gain is not a side effect, but I don't know what else could be causing this. I have not changed my diet or activity level, if anything, I am more active. I have had extreme breast tenderness, but not very much nausea, and I am getting annoyed with the headaches. It has also squashed my sex drive (not that I need one on deployment). But as soon as I am off deployment and can get Nuvaring, I will be sticking with that."

"I previously used the NuvaRing. I liked the idea of it, and after a year, I was switched to Annovera. I loved the idea of having a full year with no worries. It's comfortable, and after I finally get it in, I can't feel it. However, I had trouble with bleeding while on NuvaRing, but I was told it was a rogue period every time. So when it started on this one, I ignored it. Well, I've been bleeding full on for two months, and I finally took it out. None of my OB/GYNs cared to find out if anything is wrong in the past, and I am just so tired. My sex drive was at 0, and I regularly felt my cramps."

"I’m about to be on my fourth cycle with Annovera, and overall it’s really not that bad. My boobs are huge and sore, but not unbearable. I find it very comfortable, and it’s easy to remove/insert once you get the hang of it, and my periods are normal and easy to track. HOWEVER, I will be taking it out. Unfortunately, this has completely gotten rid of my libido, and I’m now suffering from dryness and pain during intercourse. I was on the pill prior, and it hurt my libido, but I never experienced pain. I’m planning to go hormone-free for the rest of the year just to see how it goes. I don’t see any point in taking BC if it makes me not even want to have sex???"

"I switched to Annovera because I was forgetting to take the pill often enough, and birth control that you don’t have to worry about as often was really appealing. I’ve been using it for 6 months now, and don’t really experience any major side effects besides headaches. When I first started, I experienced really bad nausea. That usually occurred when I would first insert it back in after the 7-day break. The nausea went away after about the 3rd month. I also experienced pretty severe headaches/migraines that I never got before. They were pretty bad, and I would get them as often as 2-3 times a week up until the 3rd month again, but they started lessening in severity and frequency since then. Now, I only get occasional headaches that aren’t too bad. I would definitely recommend sticking it out past the 3-month mark to see if your side effects go away because it seems like that’s the usual amount of time it takes everything to regulate out on Annovera."

"I used NuvaRing for 15 years without side effects and changed to Annovera because of its annual prescription, no refrigeration, or monthly hormonal waste (more environmentally friendly). I like the concept and have used it for 9 months but confirmed my suspicion on symptoms on this platform; for the past 3-4 months I’ve had on-and-off breast tenderness (on NuvaRing only prior to menstruation), near-daily cramping, more painful periods/PMS, and recently, hormonal acne which hasn’t happened since college and spotted for the first time ever. My immune system is weakened/compromised as soon as I've taken the ring out and find I must take it easy or catch colds. I've been exercising more/dieting but have been unable to lose any weight whatsoever. If I stray, I actually gain weight. The cherry on the cake has been my emotional sensitivity as I cry more easily – I will be changing back to NuvaRing next cycle and am curious to see how long before symptoms dissipate."
