For Birth Control "My doctor prescribed me Lutera because I was having bad mood swings (getting really angry and crying a lot) on Microgestin. I only took this pill for 2 weeks, so maybe I didn't give it a fair chance, but it actually made me depressed to the point life was garbage, so I switched. I do have a family history of depression, so that might be a factor, but I haven't had these kinds of depressive symptoms on the other 2 pills I've been on. I didn't have any spotting at all when I was taking it, and it was effective as a contraceptive, but I would never take it again."

For Birth Control "I'm convinced this birth control is causing my depression and weight gain. Before the pill, I was very irregular with my periods. But I never even had a lot of symptoms either. Half the time, I wouldn't even get a period, so that's why I went on the pill. I had also started a very serious relationship. I looked forward to regulating my period and also having another form of contraceptive. But I've had worse periods since starting. Cramps, terrible mood swings, no urge for sex. Just awful :("

For Birth Control "This was the first ever birth control pill I tried. My experience for it being the first one was not too bad except for the mood changes. I had zero other side effects like no weight change, no bloating, etc. After three months of use, I changed it because I was experiencing a lot of mood swings in the third and fourth week, to the point of depression. I am at risk for depression, so that may have been why it affected me. Other than that, it was a good pill compared to my future birth control (Junel Fe)."

For Ovarian Cysts "I've been on many pills and have had bad experiences with all of them. Mood swings, depression, exhaustion, loss of sex drive, breakouts, etc. Lutera seems like one of the best of the worst, I guess. It made my boobs plumper, which rocks, but I've lost my sex drive pretty much entirely, so what is the point of that? I'm taking it to control ovarian cysts and endometriosis, but I'm going to stop, maybe try another, because I find that I get mad or resentful at my boyfriend when there's nothing out of the ordinary going on, and I don't really care if I see my friends or not. Stuff I used to feel passionate about is like... whatever. I miss me. At least Lutera didn't make me feel like offing myself like Ortho did, but it's still not great."

For Birth Control "I've been on Lutera for almost a year now. I've been having birth control issues for about 2 years - first being on Mirena and having terrible cystic acne and depression, and then my doc recommended Lutera to add some hormones back into my system to help the acne. This is low dosage and although I've seen my cystic acne go away (besides some coming at the time of the month), I still break out daily. I wanted to try it for longer than a few months, and I have to say out of the entire year, about 2 months of it I had decent skin. I break out on my face, back, and shoulders, and I haven't had this bad of acne since high school. After high school, I was on Ortho Tri-Cyclen and the NuvaRing. Both of those didn't make me break out at all. I'm 23, 145 lb."

For Birth Control "Of course this BC did its job with my periods being fine, no acne, no pregnancy, etc., but my moods. Crying, really dark thoughts, anger outbursts. I legit went off of it for about a year and could tell I was still having mild, shitty mood swings (coincided with my phases of my cycle). Decided to go back on because I didn't want to get pregnant, five pills in and I'm crying every day. Ugh, it's really not worth the emotional pain. I'll go back to my mild mood swings (which is probably hormonal imbalance due to being on BC for years and years). Sigh."

For Birth Control "Lutera was the first birth control that I tried and was put on the lowest dosage, and overall, it was a negative experience. In terms of my cycle, it significantly improved how I experienced my normal heavy cycles. They were lighter and only lasted for a few days as opposed to eight. When it came to acne, it also helped in regards to that as well. The downside was all the negative side effects that outweighed the good. I started gaining weight, having mood swings, my emotions in general were all out of place, experienced vaginal discomfort, which is on the disclaimer, and my depression was the worst it’s ever been. I was on it for three months, and even the benefits in terms of cycle and skin were a plus, I couldn’t handle the negative ones. My mental health is a priority, and I stopped taking it. After no longer taking the pill, I noticed the huge difference in my depression and mood swings, it was not longer intense as it was before. Lutera wasn’t for me."

For Birth Control "The worst! I've been on Lutera for over two years. While taking this birth control, I experience headaches, mood swings, depression, weight gain, a drop in sex drive, and extremely long periods. My period will last 8-9 days with occasional spotting between periods and other months 3-4 weeks (maybe 3 times since I started 2 years ago). I was told this would make my period lighter... Yeah, not as heavy but longer :( After the 1st year, I spoke with my OB to make sure I didn't have any issues like fibroids, etc. And everything was normal, so I decided to keep trying Lutera in the hopes my body would adjust. Boy, was I wrong. The only pro is I'm not pregnant :) I'm definitely switching birth control #2years2long."

For Birth Control "I became severely depressed using this drug Lutera. It started with the bleeding right after my period, and the dizzy spells - quickly after depression. I cannot recommend this."

For Birth Control "I took the pill for about 6 months. The first 3 months were the worst for me. I was cranky, my sex drive went down the drain, I was dry down there, and I became depressed. After I started to feel better, just bad cramps. The pill is effective, just the side effects are the worst."
