"The mood swings I got from these Levora birth control pills have been absolutely unbearable, and I had to stop taking them. I do not even feel like myself anymore, and I am exhausted because of how much my mood shifts. My periods have also been more painful on Levora compared to other birth controls I have been on."

"I'm 17, and the first month on this birth control was great. No side effects, nothing! Then the 2nd month came, and I got very, VERY emotional. I was crying and crying over stupid things, and it was worrying my boyfriend. Then, in the 1st week of the 3rd month, I got very depressed, lost my appetite. I had to force myself to eat, and I was nauseous. I had lost 8 pounds in the course of a week and a half. Every month was getting worse. I mentioned it to my mom what it was doing. She advised me to stop taking it. I went to the doctor's yesterday, and they prescribed me a new pill with fewer hormones, Microgestin 1/20."

"I guess this Levora pill isn't for me. I'm 43, so my fears of / hope for ever having a child are long gone. After being off the pill for years, my doctor put me back on them to help regulate my cycle. Levora lasted two weeks. They call it birth control for a reason. In just a few days, I became a bloated, tired, gassy demon with acne. Whereas I normally couldn't keep my hands off my boyfriend, I found myself wishing he would just 'get it over with.' I'm stopping these awful pills today. I still hate the unpredictability of my cycle. Maybe that's what happens when you get older, but I'd rather randomly bleed than endure this. No thank you. I'm trying more ibuprofen, a menstrual cup, and more iron instead. Let's hope my boyfriend and I are too old for an 'oops' baby. Besides, I don't think I can get pregnant anyway."

"I just started my 4th month on Levora. I have not experienced any side effects besides crying. I cry almost every day. I was not like this at all before. Yeah, I cried at the sad parts in movies, but that's about it. Since I started Levora, I cry over just about everything. It's really embarrassing because it happens at work and school, and my boyfriend is also affected by it, too. Other than that, no complaints."

"I have been miserable for the past few months while on Levora. At first, it just started with some moodiness, but it has escalated after about four months (I've been on it for about 6 months). My moodiness is just so unpredictable now, I feel physically depressed and anxious. Also, my decreased sex drive has become a huge problem. I have no interest whatsoever and have had increased vaginal dryness. Also, I have had increased food cravings, I feel like I am always hungry, and combined with feeling depressed, that is a dangerous combination. I've gained about 30 lbs in 6 months. I have had much lighter periods since I have been on Levora, no cramping and no acne, but the positives really don't outweigh the negatives."

"I am overall very pleased. I've been using this pill for a year, and my periods/cramping couldn't be better. I do get a bit moody close to my period, but I've tried other brands, and this one's tolerable in this department. Overall, I'm very pleased. And it's a huge plus my insurance covers 100 percent of this. Win-win."

"I just finished my third month of Levora pills and have no plans to start a fourth. Although it did prevent pregnancy and help to regulate my periods, I have experienced horrible depression, anxiety, and a major increase in appetite. I don't think I've ever felt so awful emotionally as I have on this pill. Great that it worked for others, but this is definitely not the pill for me."

"I've been on this pill for about a year, and at first, I loved it. I was on Depo-Provera for a while, but my periods were all over the place, and my skin wasn't in very good shape. Once I started Levora, my breasts were very tender, but they also grew, so I wasn't complaining. About 6 months ago, I started packing on pounds. I'm 5'2" and have never gone above 110 lbs. I am now a solid 125 lbs, sometimes more. I have not changed my fairly healthy diet and do lightly exercise. My skin has not cleared up, and my sex drive is gone. I literally got nothing good out of this pill other than big boobs (again, not complaining). I am getting off of this pill ASAP."

"I was on Levora for approximately 5 months; it was great the first few months. My acne had lessened overall, and I had minimal bloating around my period. Cramping had subsided, and I had a lot of hair growth on my head. No weight gain, no bigger boobs. However, the negative side effects first started with breast tenderness (which was okay), but it became worse. I started out as emotional, then became extremely angry or easily aggravated all the time! My skin started becoming really oily, which then caused me to break out. Overall, I still believe this was a good birth control; it just didn't work out for me. I'd still recommend you'd give it a try if you can. (no pregnancy either!)"

"I've been on Levora for 7 years. It's been exactly a set time and day of my menstrual cycles, which I like. And no bad side effects ever that I have noticed, but I am worried and anxious for whenever I choose to stop it, what could happen to my body after so many years of nonstop use."

"I started taking this BC to help with my cramps and heavy period. Very bad choice because I have literally been bleeding for 6 months! Most of the time it was spotting, some days it was so heavy, and the cramps... they are the worst. I've become extremely depressed, I cry like crazy, I can never sleep past 3 a.m., and I have become so mean to people. I wouldn't recommend this BC to my worst enemy, it's terrible."

"I've been taking this pill for about 2 months and have been very pleased. I experienced some mild weight gain, but not so much that it really matters. I had previously been on two other birth controls within the last year (LoLoestrin Fe and Kelnor), and Levora is BY FAR better for me. I can take the pill a few hours late and it's totally fine (my previous pills would cause spotting if I took it even an hour late). I have skipped my periods thus far (so, twice) and have had no issues with spotting. Had one or two days in the last 60 where I was irrationally moody and bitchy, but for the most part, I am very happy with Levora."

"I have been on Levora for around 4 years and have never had negative side effects. Levora did not make me gain any weight or cause mood swings. One great thing is that Levora has lightened and shortened my period time. I now only have a light period for 3-4 days. I love this birth control! My only complaint is the price."

"I have taken Levora for the past 2 years. During this time, I have gained 30 lbs. Libido has decreased, and I get lightheaded after sex (not sure if this is typical!). No pregnancy while on this pill. No substantial acne issues. I do like that my periods now occur regularly every month for a shorter amount of time (2-3 days rather than 5-6 days every 30-70 days). Period cramping is not nearly as bad as before taking the pill. Still, I am very unhappy about the weight gain. It may be a combination of this medication and other lifestyle changes I've had during the past 2-3 years."

"I was on Levora for about 9 years and have quit taking it now for about a year. I never became pregnant on this pill, so it definitely serves its purpose, but I did have some common side effects that it seems a lot of women complained about as well. My two biggest issues were a VERY decreased libido (almost non-existent), breast tenderness, and anxiety. I'm still suffering from anxiety issues, so I'm not sure if the pill contributed to the anxiety, or if I would've started having it even if I never started taking the pill."

"I took this pill for 4 years and have really bad cystic acne. Then my doc prescribed me Ortho Levora to stop it. I was amazed that it cleared my face. However, when I stopped it, it comes back. Well, I had a pretty bad diet and did not exercise, so probably it contributes to the cystic acne lesions. Now, I exercise 5-6 times per week and my diet is straight (no fast food, any types of sweet beverages- even juice or Gatorade-, no fried stuff, salty food, etc.). Now, I can get off Levora without having any problems with cystic acne. Weight gain wise, I did pack a lot of pounds when I first started taking it. Well, I was eating unhealthy, so it must be the culprit, not the birth control itself. If anyone complains about gaining weight on this, you are eating too much."

"Since starting Levora 3 months ago, I've had severe panic attacks, fatigue, nausea, and awful mood swings. Off it as of today. I suggest taking it, then re-evaluating how you feel after 90 days. I can honestly say it's turned me into a raging lunatic with no control over my emotions. This has been my worst experience on birth control yet. The anxiety is overwhelming, which causes hostility and depression. Please be careful, ladies!"

"This is the first and only birth control medication I've been on. I've been taking it a little over 2 years now. I've had no side effects besides EXTREMELY low sex drive. I've never had a particularly high sex drive, but now it's nonexistent. I haven't had any of the headaches or mood swings. There was a mild increase in my acne, but I'm also a college student, so I don't particularly lay all the blame on the pill. Overall, it does its job, but I would caution potential takers with low libido."

"I guess I can't complain. You get on birth control to not get pregnant. I've been on Levora for about 5 months now, and I have recently decided I am done. Since starting this pill, I have gained 12 pounds. For the past two years of my life, I have weighed between 108 and 110. Levora makes you crave food like crazy. I have turned into an emotional wreck. I cry all the time, I am easily annoyed and fly between depression and feeling fine within minutes. I have lost all sex drive. It's absolutely gone."

"I've been on this pill for about 8 months now. I started when I met the most amazing man in the world. Unfortunately, we're in a long-distance relationship, so the small amount of time we get every 2 weeks, he, of course, wants to have sex. Before I started Levora, I would have sex with him 2-4 times a day, it was the most amazing sex of my life! Ever since I started the pill, I don't even want to kiss him. He thinks I'm not attracted to him anymore because I NEVER want to have sex! If he wasn't so in love and patient with me, I know that he would have been gone by now. I absolutely hate how much this has affected my sex drive, it's caused me to gain 10 lbs, and sometimes I get overly emotional/depressed."

"I've been taking this pill for over a year, and I have literally had all the side effects that are listed. I've felt so depressed and moody ever since taking this pill, and I never used to be like that. I strongly recommend not taking this med if you typically feel nauseous a lot or if you have terrible periods like me. I have gained about 15 pounds from this med, and I always feel bloated. Switching to something different tomorrow."

"The first week I got Levora from Planned Parenthood was hell. I was a crazy and moody beast, and I ate everything in sight. Right now I'm finishing up my second month, and it's going way better. The weird food cravings have gone down significantly, although I have gained about 4.5 pounds. The clinician said it would help my acne, but it hasn't really changed yet. Although I am really stressed with finals at college, so that may be why. It hasn't really dramatically increased though. But what HAS dramatically increased is my sex drive. I've never been a very sex-driven lady, but now I definitely am, and my boyfriend is loving it, hahaha. Unfortunately, it hasn't made my breasts grow though. All in all, I really like it."

"I was on this pill for two months. The first couple of days, I couldn't stop crying... I am NOT the crying type of person, and I had constant mood swings. The following two months, I gained a significant amount of weight (10 pounds) even with running and dieting. My breasts were beyond sore, and I couldn't handle my husband even lightly touching them. I felt bloated the entire time, and my periods were back in full force! With my previous birth control (Natazia - my insurance stopped covering), I had no period and no ovarian cysts bursting. My gynecologist recommended I get off of this pill immediately. Hopefully, I will have better luck with the next!"

"I have 3 days left on this first month of Levora. It helped to stop my post-miscarriage bleeding. That's about the only positive side effect I've experienced. It started with horrible dry, itchy eyes, then random uncontrollable crying spells and poor ability to sleep. I've since become so, so down, I'm so damn depressed. This is going in the trash bin! Please be careful. Hormones are a delicate balance. I'm going to try Vitex - chasteberry tree after this month is over."

"This is definitely the pill for me. I suffer from pretty severe PMDD as a result of low estrogen. I used to spend two weeks out of the month with bad cramps and other PMS symptoms. During my actual period, I was rarely able to get myself out of bed in the morning. Now, I barely notice cramps at all during my period. I don't have any of my other twenty-something symptoms. My sex drive has increased (I actually have one now!), and my family has commented on the fact that I've been less moody. As far as complaints: I have gained a few pounds as a result of food cravings. I'm definitely hungrier more frequently than I used to be. My stomach will growl just two hours after a large meal. I've definitely responded well to Levora."
