For Birth Control "Within the first month, my skin became horrible. I’ve never had an acne or pimple problem, just the occasional pimple here and there, but after I started taking Alesse, the acne came out. Currently, my chin is covered in cystic-like acne, which never occurred before, and I have various pimples on my cheeks and forehead. I also ended up having my period for a full 2 weeks, and I’m pretty sure it’s still kind of going on. Not sure if that’s normal, but it has never happened before. Then came the mood swings. I've never been a really angry person, but since starting on this, I’m constantly either extremely happy or extremely upset, and it’s awful. I’ve experienced really bad cramps too. Thought the pill was supposed to help with that too. Going to talk to my doctor about switching pills to see if my side effects clear up."

"I started Alesse-28 for birth control related reasons, and to see if it would clear my mild acne (I noticed no difference in my skin). I was on this pill for 2 months, but I couldn't bring myself to keep going with it because of the side effects. It made me nauseous almost every day, especially after meals. It got to the point where I was terrified of eating out, and that fear stuck with me for the first few months after stopping this pill. It did its job for me though (I didn't get pregnant), but the nausea was a dealbreaker for me. I have now had the Kyleena IUD for 7 months, and it has reacted so much better with my body. However, I have friends who take Alesse-28 and have had no problems with it, so everybody reacts differently to hormonal birth control. Keep that in mind when choosing the right one for you!"

For Endometriosis "I have tried every type of birth control, along with four different types of pills, and I can say that this is easily the worst one I’ve ever been on. My side effects were incredibly clear after only six to eight weeks. This included headaches, high blood pressure, feeling faint and nauseous, constant sweating (which makes me stink and have to shower at least twice a day), bloating, increased IBS symptoms, and inability to climax/delayed arousal. It gets increasingly worse as time goes on, and I’ve also noticed that the pain I experience each time I get my period is always different. One month it’ll be light with no pain; the next it’ll be extremely heavy and cramping all week."

For Birth Control "I’ve tried Alesse two times, and it gave me terrible nausea every single morning. It also made me terribly moody and sad. Ever since I’ve started it, I’ve been really irritated and kept starting fights with my boyfriend, with whom I didn’t fight much before starting this medication. On the other hand, I’ve never had a pregnancy scare while I was taking Alesse."

For Birth Control "Had a super heavy flow, and my period was very irregular. Started taking Alesse-28 almost 3 years ago, and my flow is nowhere near as heavy as it used to be. Furthermore, it comes consistently every month, rarely ever being off. I do get bloated a lot and have some breast pain sometimes, but side effects are minimal to none and are easy to handle."

For Birth Control "I've been on this pill, Alesse-28, since I was 17, and I am 21 now. At first, it was really good. I had bad acne on my cheeks and long, heavy periods. I think now that my body is changing, I am getting acne on my chin, and I get bad headaches before my period, none-rarely any sex drive, and I cry literally at everything (especially the week before my period). I did love this birth control at first, but now I don't think it's working for me anymore."

For Birth Control "I have tried taking this medication three times already. Every time, I got very depressed, and my mood was all over the place. I started again ten days ago, and yesterday I had a terrible anxiety attack, and I find myself crying about anything. This is very unusual in me since I am usually a non-depressed, very happy person. I never read any reviews until now, and I realize lots of people have gone through the same as me. I will stop the pill today and touch it again."

For Birth Control "I started taking Alesse as soon as I turned 19. This is my 4th month on it. I never got any side effects such as nausea, headaches, and spotting like I was warned. :) But right after I finished my first batch, I got bad PMS symptoms (cravings, breast tenderness, and mood swings) until my first period arrived a couple of days later. The following batches after that were fine. My periods came on time every month, flow was lighter, no cramps, less PMS symptoms, and the duration of my period was noticeably shorter too. Slowly gained an insignificant 5 pounds over the last four months. I rarely get breakouts but got a few big annoying pimples on my face at first. Alesse does its job as a contraceptive, and I recommend it."

For Birth Control "I've been taking Alesse 28 for just over a year, and it's dramatically changed my period for the better. My flow used to be heavy and 7-10 days with extreme cramps! I am now down to 2-3 days with a light flow and manageable cramps. My cycle has always been on schedule, so it didn't change that aspect much. I should add I'm 19, and this is the first and only birth control I've tried, and I think it works great."

For Birth Control "The first year on Alesse-28, I had no symptoms. Year two, I noticed thinning of my hair and now have a small bald spot in the front hairline. My breasts are tender, and my sex drive is lower. The hair loss is the worst. I'm going to try a progesterone-only pill. I hope my hair grows back..."

For Birth Control "I lost my sex drive entirely when I got on Alesse-28. I got yeast infections from the progesterone. I'm being switched to another type of birth control. However, it was nice regulating my periods and having less bleeding. My boobs also grew a little."

For Birth Control "I've been taking this pill for about 8 months now. My periods have been noticeably different. They almost always come on time, they are heavy for 1-2 days and then are extremely light for the rest of the week. My cramps are not painful anymore, and my acne on my back cleared up nicely (I didn't have much acne anywhere else in the first place). However, I have been having abnormal discharge that I've associated with the pill. I'm not 100% sure, but the timing adds up. Otherwise, it's been a good experience."

For Birth Control "The first couple of months of taking this pill, I had no side effects or abnormal bleeding. I’ve been taking the pill for nine months now, my acne has completely cleared and my period is very light. As far as side effects go, this pill has definitely caused me to feel more depressed but has helped with my anxiety. It's done its job for preventing pregnancy, although I’ve always used condoms to be safe. I don’t recommend skipping the placebo pills to skip your period, as I did that, and I had abnormal bleeding a couple of weeks later, which gave me a pretty big pregnancy scare. Overall, I would recommend to anyone to try going on this pill because everyone’s response to it will be different, and it’s worth a try."

For Birth Control "I have been on Alesse for 1.5 years now and can say that I got a lot of side effects that birth control is usually supposed to help against. Before birth control, my periods were 5-7 days and heavy, no pain or cramps at all and no acne. After Alesse, my skin is really bad, and I get the worst cramping and back pain right before and for the first 3 days of my period. The only reason I have stayed on this is because it is effective at coming on the same day, and I have no problems with irregular periods. No problem with weight gain or being emotional (thank goodness), but I just went to my doctor and recently told her about my problems and have just been switched to a brand with a higher concentration. Here is hoping for better results."

For Birth Control "I am currently starting my placebo pills on my second month, and let me tell you that my acne is worse than it has ever been in my life. I regret taking this pill so much because now I have painful, large, red cysts in random places all over my cheeks, chin, and jaw area. I have had acne before, but never to such a degree. My face literally flared up around the 10th day. I guess all the hormones kicked in that day because my skin was fine and the next day I flared up. The worst is that they are all staying as bright red scars. I have never had such low self-esteem. I don't even want to leave the house right now (even with makeup). The only two good things are that my boobs grew a lot, and after the first month of horrible mood swings, it goes away."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "Wow, I’m kind of shocked by how dramatically this pill has affected my mental well-being. Almost immediately, I was extremely irritable, and I actually had a meltdown for the first time in years. Now, after 3 months of taking it, I’m stopping because I’m very depressed, angry, and incredibly irritable. I do have a history of depression, but I was very mentally stable before I started, my psychologist even commented on how well I was doing. My left breast grew like a cup size, and even though I’ve been skipping the break, I’m spotting, cramping (though not nearly as bad as before), and feeling nauseous for a more drawn-out, lighter version of my usual period. So for me, there were no benefits, only a huge strain on my relationship."

For Birth Control "I was on this birth control for 4 months, and the first month I was on it, I was on my period for 18 days. Every month since then, I’ve had two periods a month, each around 10 days, where my period only used to be 5. I had no appetite at all, and I lost a lot of weight. I woke up nauseous almost every day, as well as experienced random UTI-like symptoms every month for a few days at a time. I can say it did do its job at preventing pregnancy, but that’s about it, and the side effects that came with it were not worth it. However, this is just my experience! :)"

For Birth Control "I have been taking Alesse-28 for a month now, and it’s been a really bad experience. I would constantly have headaches and nausea. Breasts are sore, I feel tired all the time and moody. Also, I’m still waiting on my period. I took a pregnancy test, I am not pregnant, so I’m not sure what’s going on. I’m going to stop taking these pills, they are horrible."

For Birth Control "I love this birth control! I have been on Alesse for over a month and have experienced absolutely no negative side effects. My mood is normal, I have no abnormal bleeding, no weight gain, no increase in appetite. My breasts feel much fuller now, which I love! My first period was normal, and I only had cramps on the first day of my period. I have very acne-prone skin and tend to break out with hormonal acne. Since taking this birth control, my acne has not gotten worse. It has stayed mostly the same, but my skin is always better in the summer. But I have not had any large cystic acne breakouts so far, so I'm fine with it. I was previously on Yasmin for acne management, however, that birth control made my acne far worse, and I had other negative side effects. Alesse is definitely worth trying because it has a lower dosage of hormones, so you are less likely to experience negative side effects like in other birth controls. I would recommend Alesse to anyone!"

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I've been on Alesse-28 for 5 years now. The first 3 periods had me feeling extra PMS symptoms like cramps (not THAT bad though, but I normally hardly ever get them) and general moodiness, I think, but for the majority of the time I've been on it, I hadn't had any bad side effects with the exception of the loss of my sex drive. I think it was a fine price to pay for the relief of 2-3 week-long bleeds (and god-awful anemia), but I'm kind of over it now, lol."

For Birth Control "It did what it was supposed to, in the way of not allowing pregnancy, however, it caused horrible side effects. Coming onto it, I had acne for months, which went away but returned for months when I came off. I would have random mental breakdowns, weight gain, depression, and anxiety."

For Birth Control "First and foremost, I was prescribed this by my family doctor as a way of preventing pregnancy and regulating my period. It has been 8 months since I have been on Alesse/AlySena regularly, and I have missed 3 periods in a row. I’m not pregnant, but it did give me major scares, and even though I received NEGATIVE tests, constantly use condoms and haven’t had sex since late July (because I don’t have any sex drive), I still fear that I am pregnant. Other than that, I am on 2 other antidepressants/anxiety medications to regulate my serotonin and anxiety, and this could honestly be the reason as to why Alesse has been so crappy for me. Granted, I am in my first year of university, and I attempt to take it at the same time every day, however, it may be a few hours late simply because it slipped my mind, and this is the kind of birth control you can’t do that with. I am calling my doctor ASAP to get off of it and onto a new one that doesn’t give me a heart attack once a month."

For Birth Control "Have been on this medication for over a year. The first 6 months, I never really had any issues. My periods were a bit lighter, and the cramping had improved significantly. After six months of use, I started to get very nauseous because of this medication. I take it before going to bed, and about 6 hours later, I would wake up and be throwing up for a few minutes. About 20 minutes to half an hour, I would usually be okay. Some days, though, I relied on anti-nausea tablets just to be able to get a little bit of food in me. I continued to take it, but now I'm getting an IUD so I can finally abandon this pill."

For Birth Control "I have mixed opinions on this birth control pill Alesse-28. The first few months I was on it, there were no issues, and it has worked as birth control, but my doctor assured me it would lighten my flow. It has, in fact, increased it, and I still get cramps every month. I bleed through super tampons in an hour. I've had pregnancy scares as my periods have been late multiple times despite me taking it perfectly. Lately, I've been getting extremely overemotional on this pill, and it has worsened my mental condition. I will be asking to be taken off this pill."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "My daughter went to the doctor on April 30th, 2020, and complained of cramps and discomfort during her menstrual cycle, which was why she was there to see the doctor. No further investigation was done by the doctor, for example, a scan, x-ray, or referral to a gynecologist. Instead, she was given a birth control pill, Alesse-28. On May 21st, 2020, two and a half weeks later, she had a pulmonary embolism at work and died. The coroner said it was the medication that caused her death. It turned out that she had a benign tumor of the uterus, which could have been easily treated. She was a healthy 47-year-old woman-nothing else wrong with her. Please rethink birth control!"
