Ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel for Birth Control "I do not understand how this drug is on the market. It's a shame that health insurance companies feel they have the medical prowess to change medications that have such a negative impact on women's lives, and it seems like it's on a very large scale. And the fact that we live in a world where men can't even handle a birth control study based on these types of symptoms saddens me. Something needs to be done because this simply is not okay! I am currently battling with health insurance to get the name brand after 9 horrible months on generic without knowledge of them changing it. I had severe depression, anxiety, nausea, vomiting, irregular periods, shedding hair, loss of appetite... I could go on, and I went to so many doctors trying to figure out why this was happening. If you recently changed to generic, stop taking it right away! I hope to feel better soon once I change back to name brand soon."

Ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel for Birth Control "When I first started using the ring, I had absolutely horrible anxiety for about 2 weeks. It faded with time. I didn't have any other major side effects other than it made my face explode with hormonal acne. I had very mild acne, and it got worse every month that I used the ring. I had to stop taking it for that reason. I switched to Beyaz, and I have zero side effects, and my acne is 80% better after a week."

Ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel for Birth Control "Soooo, this is the second time on this for me... first time I was on it for almost 4 years. Was off for about 3 years and was on the pill. I just put one in Sunday, took it out tonight. My body has been used to no hormones for over 6 months, and I noticed all negative side effects this go around. It’s great not having to take a pill, I haven’t taken it out yet to switch, so we’ll see how that goes. My mental processes have been completely wack since I’ve begun using NuvaRing. I have no patience for anything anymore, I get so irritable and fight to keep it inside. It’s been affecting those around me with my negativity. Prior to this, I was overly positive, people would ask me how I smiled so much. Now I fight to smile. My anxiety is so high I lay awake at night and can’t get my mind off it. Went off it for a few years, felt like it was important to give the hormones a break/let my body reset, balance itself out. Went back on it (I'm 26 now). Only been back on it for a little over 6 months -- this 2nd time around hasn't been so awesome. Makes my periods lighter/shorter/less crampy, which is convenient, but I'm tired of the dryness/itching/discharge. My vagina is some level of irritated/inflamed/bothered, pretty much 24/7. Sex drive lower, and some anxiety/nervousness/depression (though it's hard to tell if it's 100% because of the ring). Headaches/nausea, can't have sex without lube. Nice to be able to have unprotected sex, but only if you can enjoy it. Not ovulating is weird."

Ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel for Birth Control "I began cramping as soon as I inserted it until the day of my cycle that I was supposed to remove it. I became angry and depressed and anxious and even suicidal. I stopped torturing myself after one month and didn't use EluRyng again. All of these symptoms were relieved after the ring was gone. This medication is a disaster. I weep for my fellow sisters."

Once I had the ring inserted within the first week, I have had TERRIBLE mood swings. I am depressed, anxious, irritable, you name it, I feel it. Ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel for Birth Control "I gave the NuvaRing a 3 only because it did effectively prevent pregnancy for the last 7 months, but the other side effects are just not bearable. I have been using it for about 7 months and decided enough was enough the day after Christmas and took it out days before it was due to come out. The reason is extreme exhaustion/fatigue. I attributed exhaustion and anxiety/depression to just about everything, but I realized it is the ring because last month I removed it 10 days early by accident, and even though I bled for a little while (insurance would not cover the ring early), I felt full of energy, which is how I am normally. The first time I picked it up from the pharmacy, the girl said it made her feel 'hungover.' I shrugged it off at the time, but that is how I feel!"

I started getting migraines twice a week or more (I used to get them 3-4 times a year). Weight gain and horrible anxiety and depression. I’ve been crying, depressed, and feeling suicidal. I’ve never had depression or these kinds of thoughts before. I’ve been taking my anxiety medicine daily to try and cope. My hair has also started shedding noticeably. It took me that long to figure out what caused my problems, such as: attacks of crying for no reason (2-4 hours on end), anxiety, depression, fatigue, rage, severe mood swings, difficulty in breathing, headaches, migraines. Eventually it became too much, I had to go on sick leave due to severe cognitive impairment. I wasn't able to follow simple instructions or engage in conversation. I suffered from memory loss, and I will probably never be the same again. Four years have passed since I stopped using the NuvaRing, and I still struggle. Severe, SEVERE anxiety and depression, thoughts of no longer wanting to live. Thinking that I’m just crazy. Fighting with my husband over absolutely nothing, with the worst anger, is the no sex drive. My family has watched me dwindle into an angry person, and that’s not who I am. Ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel for Birth Control "Apart from it being very convenient, I have almost nothing good to say about the NuvaRing. I've been on it for 2.5 years now. I cry every day about everything, and I am so fatigued I get up at 7:30 and will nap before lunch, then again before dinner. My eyes are so dry I had to get a prescription for eye drops to improve my vision. My gums bleed when I brush my teeth. A little over a year ago, my partner and I started having issues as sex became very painful for me, and I have almost no more sex drive. About 6 months ago, I was diagnosed with anxiety and depression and was put on medication for it. The people I love have noticed a huge difference in my personality. I took the NuvaRing out this morning and will be getting an IUD soon. Here's to hoping things turn around for the better! TAKE THIS MEDICATION WITH EXTREME CAUTION, my symptoms took about a year before they started getting bad, and we think it will be months before I start to feel myself again."

Ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel for Birth Control "I love the NuvaRing. I've been on it now for about a year and haven't had any horrible side effects. It was an amazing change compared to the pills I was on, Tri-Lo Marzia (generic and non-generic). That pill gave me horrible anxiety, depression, excess mucus, and vomiting. I don't feel the ring during sex or in general, it has never fallen out or caused pain, and my partner isn't bothered by it. I couldn't recommend this enough, if you haven't had great luck with pills, try the ring."

Ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel for Birth Control "As most everyone else, I had been on NuvaRing for 5 years with absolutely no issues, switched to the EluRyng due to insurance no longer covering the brand name. When I first started, I immediately got really bad cramps! I started to get kind of moody and was experiencing severe anxiety, my neck and back hurt significantly. In December, I was having anxiety attacks, migraines, felt shaky, vertigo, and sleeping all day. I saw my doctor in December, forgot about the med change, and said depression and anxiety could be because of the pandemic. I started having panic attacks, and anxiety and depression continued. I couldn't wear my eyeglasses and had bad tension headaches. At the end of March, I looked up medication and read reviews of others, immediately contacted my gyno. I’ve only been back on the NuvaRing one cycle, but overall I feel better, still adjusting. I became depressed to the point of wanting to place myself in an institution at times, had a massive fight with loved ones, put on 8 kg, lost my passion for life, was always tired, needing to eat ALL the time... Need I go on? So I went back on the pill for 2 months following, before my sister-in-law convinced me to try other contraceptive methods such as condoms with my supportive (yet freaked out at first by the idea) fiancé. I was on the NuvaRing for about 7 months until my insurance switched me to the EluRyng. I’ve been on it for about a year. So far, I had a great experience with it. I didn’t notice any difference from the brand name to the generic, except that the EluRyng is squishier and more flexible. I didn’t get any weight gain or mood swings. No headaches or anxiety. It has cleared my skin and helps knowing when my periods will come. I have the app to remind me. Overall, I give it a 9. I have nothing negative to say about it, except that it’d be nice if it came with an applicator."

I didn't think anything of it until I woke up multiple times throughout the night feeling like I was on fire and sweating profusely. For Birth Control "Thank you, ladies, for your reviews!! I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to catch on to the source of the problem. I have been feeling crazy reading as well as being told by medical professionals that the NuvaRing and generic brand are the same thing. I loved the NuvaRing and had been on it for 10 years - never had any issues other than a lower libido, but I like the way the hormones make my boobs bigger, so *priorities.* The generic brand has been an absolute nightmare. I barely get my period when the ring is out, which weirds me out. I’ve had bad cramping and mood swings. I have gained weight in my abdomen. I’ve had bad anxiety that just doesn’t add up to my life’s circumstances. The worst part is what it’s done to my skin. I’ve always had clear skin, and now it’s breakout city - bumpy, itchy, red, and irritated. Ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel for Birth Control "NuvaRing has done its purpose in a very effective way to prevent pregnancy, considering it prevents without having to remember to take it every day. However, I have been overcome with horrible anxiety. Anxiety has always been a problem for me, but I was always able to manage with therapy and medicine for almost 5 years now. 2 months on the NuvaRing, and I feel crazy. I'm paranoid, constantly making up scenarios and pretty much convincing myself they are true, and not to mention I feel helpless. I am not a cryer, but I cry every day now. I'm also tired constantly and have experienced pretty intense headaches and a lower sex drive. My friends and family have told me as well that I seem off. Two days after starting, I began feeling anxious and depressed. Ease of use is great, I have had no cramps, bloating, or breakouts. I can't feel the ring when it's in, and it doesn't fall out. I recommend, if you want to try the ring, it may work well for some, but keep an eye on your emotions and call your doctor if something feels out of place. Don't feel ashamed or embarrassed that your mood changes! Birth control messes with your hormone levels, and it is better to let a doctor know than to suffer unnecessarily. May be great for some, but this birth control is not for me."
