For Atrophic Urethritis "I have no idea how it works because I simply can’t insert it. At first, I thought my vaginal area was too dry, so I added a bit of KY jelly, trying to not get any on the ring, which would make it slippery. Even so, I cannot get the ring in no matter how much I compress it. I’m not thrilled with the idea of having to go to my OB/GYN for insertion, but I don’t have a choice. Very frustrated."

For Atrophic Vaginitis "Works amazingly at keeping thrush at bay and delivering estrogen to the vagina. Inserting is a breeze. However, removing it is a chore. I wish there was a string attached like a tampon to remove it easier."

For Atrophic Vaginitis "Been using the Estring for a few years, and I don't like it at all. Putting it in is difficult, and taking it out is worse. I used a plastic crochet hook to remove it. I noticed a foul smell from my vagina when I peed and when I slept in the nude. Finally pulled out the Estring with the crochet hook for the last time. The odor was gone. I will probably use Premarin."

For Atrophic Vaginitis "I just removed the ring after 3 weeks because after two weeks I started having hot flashes, low back pain, and vaginal discharge. It has been 3 days now, and the symptoms are abating. I did not like the bloat I was feeling and will go back to the Estrace cream, which is not as convenient but with which I did not have side effects."

For Atrophic Vaginitis "I’m having significant incontinence since I started using Estring 2 months ago. Especially when bending and picking up grandbaby. I took it out twice (not easy), and the incontinence decreased considerably. I don’t know if the position it lands in is causing pressure on my bladder."

For Atrophic Urethritis "I gave up on Estring after 90 days. It didn't help with urethra pain, hot flashes returned while using it, and now I am afraid I won't be able to remove it. The cheerful instructional video on how to remove it by Pfizer is not reassuring. I also had to add a Dotti patch in addition to the Estring to combat hot flashes. It was an expensive and unpleasant trial for me."

For Atrophic Vaginitis "I'm 66 and had a total hysterectomy 8 years ago due to vaginal collapse. In recent years, the Gore-Tex sutures at the top of my vagina have been poking out; I can feel a couple of prickly points. Intercourse became painful, especially deep thrusting, and I feel it's due to a shorter vagina. My GYN thinks it's more due to thinning of the vaginal walls—although it's not the walls that hurt; it's at the top, as if my husband is ramming into a brick wall. He doesn't feel any difference. I got my Estring this week. Impossible to insert it, so it doesn't keep my vagina open, which feels like it did when my cervix used to be way down there prior to surgery. I was in tears trying to push it up, and because I'd just spent $300 on something I can tell won't work. I'm also on an estrogen cream—a compound—which I've been on before but couldn't really tell if it worked."

For Atrophic Vaginitis "I don’t feel it when inserted, which is great. Works well without the inconvenience of creams! My only problem is that I can’t for the life of me get it out by myself, so I have to have my doctor do it. Sometimes it goes all the way to the back and wraps around my cervix. Minor inconvenience."

For Atrophic Vaginitis "Having entered full menopause 2 years ago, I’m now 61. I found my vagina/labia was completely dry a year into menopause (it had been getting worse starting the year before). Sex was dry and painful, and required a lubricant, otherwise, the skin was raw and sometimes bled. My gyno recommended the Estring. It started working noticeably by day 3, and 2 weeks in, I felt normal again. The ring looks large out of the package and requires some patience to insert. The first insertion, I could feel it riding on my cervix. I needed to push it further to the top of the uterus - that worked, and I could not feel it. I am now on my 2nd one (they are good for a 3-month window). It is a $60 co-pay, so it works out to $20 a month. I haven’t had any problems with it, and I am very happy so far. I would recommend anyone try it and see if it works as well for them as it has for me (it doesn’t have the hassle or mess of suppositories or creams). I recommended it to a friend of mine as well."

For Atrophic Vaginitis "I've been using it for a few years now, and I went 2 weeks past my change-out date, and started feeling awful yeast infection-type itching symptoms and became so uncomfortable I checked the date, and sure enough I was past the replacement time. I do sometimes have trouble grabbing it to remove it, but if you push down like you are going to have a BM, it moves down and you can grab it easily. I literally cannot live without it. I'm 55, I wonder how long I will have to use it. I pay $30 per month for it."

For Atrophic Urethritis "Love the Estring, except for the fact that it does not last 90 days. It lasts about 45 days, and I can manage up to 60, after that, I start using cream again until it is time to replace it. Either Pfizer needs to improve the amount of estradiol, or it needs to be able to be prescribed at more frequent intervals if needed. Otherwise, it is great. I do plan on trying Femring to see if that lasts the full 90 days."

For Atrophic Vaginitis "I used the Estring vaginal ring for vaginal atrophy for a month and a half. Within the first two weeks, the atrophy had been dealt with and I was quite comfortable. However, a week after inserting the ring, I had sudden onset joint pain that was some of the worst pain I ever experienced in my life, I was living at a 10 on the pain scale every single day. The ring also caused an increase in insomnia and depression. I ended up removing it due to excessively heavy bleeding. It's been only a few days since I removed the ring, and the pain is gone, I can sleep again, and the bleeding has stopped. This ring was like poison for my body, I don't know what is in it, but it's terrible. I would not recommend it to anyone. I have used other rings in the past, which is why I wanted to try it, but I regret this one so much."

For Atrophic Vaginitis "I have suffered from vaginal/vulvar pain since menopause started about 5 years ago. I've been treated by various doctors for vulvodynia/interstitial cystitis, but my current doctor suggested the Estring because I have obvious atrophy symptoms that could account for a lot of my symptoms. Sadly, this product just made my vaginal/bladder issues worse - pressure, irritation, and discharge. I waited 3 weeks but finally removed it myself. Hoping I'll start feeling better soon. I wasted $279 to feel even worse. They should consider a redesign with a softer and more comfortable ring and bioidentical estrogen to reduce health risks. I've seen a lot of negative reactions online to this."
